Thoughts on my favourite names?

I haven’t posted on here on what must be a year (though I’ve continued to browse!) and my naming style has changed significantly since. I’m curious of others opinions of my top names… you can rate them, make combos, suggest new options or whatever! I’m far too young to have children so this is purely for fun!
Boys:
Elliott
Ariel (probably would never use this due to the association with the, female, mermaid)
Loïc
Rudolph ‘Rudy’ (is the reindeer association too much?)
George or Georgie
Francis
Henry ‘Hal’
Sacha
James (i’m not the kind of person to care about popularity, I just think it’s the most perfect name)
Vincent ‘Vinnie’ or ‘Vince’
Oliver (love but could never use as my own name is virtually the same but female)
Ambrose
Sebastian ‘Bash’
Darcy
Harvey
Emilian ‘Emil’
Jude
Hugh
Leonid
Ilya
Ronan
Sidney
Barnabas ‘Barnaby’
William
Guy

Girls:
Mariana or Marina or Marianne
Felicity
Dulcie
Marceline ‘Marcy’
Roxanne ‘Roxy’
Violet
Isolde
Hermia
Rhiannon
Irena or Irene
Verity
Sophia ‘Sophie’
Mallory
Soleil
Daphne
Antigone
Freya
Elisabeth ‘Beth’
Katherine ‘Kate’
Cosima
Sabrina
Callista
Josephine
Beatrice ‘Bea’
Guinevere
Julia
Anna
Sunniva ‘Sunny’
Regan
Therese
Helena
Hollis ‘Holly’
Giselle
Rose and all it’s variants with the exception of Rosalie

That’s all I can think of right now… so… what do you think?

~ [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] ‘Rudy’ - it’s a bold choice, but I wouldn’t say unstable, I’d be so pleased to meet someone named [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m]!
~ [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_f]Georgie[/name_f], [name_m]Francis[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ‘Hal’, [name_m]Sacha[/name_m], [name_m]James[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] ‘Vinnie’ or ‘Vince’ - absolutely love all these!!
~ [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - love this with nicknames Brosie or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
~ [name_m]Jude[/name_m] + [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
~ [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] - gorgeous
~ [name_m]Sidney[/name_m] - this is great with nickname Sid!!
~ [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] ‘Barnaby’ - I also love the nickname Barney!!

~ [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - underused and sweet!
~ [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] ‘Marcy’ + [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] ‘Roxy’ perfect sisters!
~ [name_f]Violet[/name_f] + [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - 2 of my faves
~ [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I feel like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] also is in the “perfect name” category, it makes sense why it’s so popular! It just checks all the boxes!
~ [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] - underrated and ages well!
~ [name_f]Therese[/name_f] + [name_f]Helena[/name_f] - also make nice sisters!
~ [name_f]Hollis[/name_f] ‘Holly’ - this is so glamorous!! i also like [name_f]Holland[/name_f]!
~ [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and all its variants with the exception of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - I’m with you, I really don’t like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] but I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]!

Your list is sooo lovely!!

Thank you so much for all the kind feedback! I’m not in [name_f]America[/name_f], but I was just worried [name_m]Barney[/name_m] would be too associated with the purple dinosaur lol

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] back! [name_f]Love[/name_f] so many names on your list!

Some assorted thoughts:

[name_f]Ariel[/name_f] – love on a boy! I don’t think it’s completely unusable do to the mermaid. I also think of the character from The [name_f]Tempest[/name_f].
[name_m]Loïc[/name_m] – excited to see this on someone’s list! Very underrated.
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] ‘Rudy’ – it’s definitely a brave choice. I would expect to get some frequent reindeer comments, but it’s not really a bad association.
[name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] – I would go with [name_m]George[/name_m] as a full name, but [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] is a cute nickname.
[name_m]Sacha[/name_m] – Euro-chic! love him!
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] ‘Emil’ – I have both on my list. I think I prefer [name_m]Emil[/name_m] as a separate name rather than a nickname, but I’m excited to see them either way!
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m] – like in theory, but Weinstein kind of ruins it for me. I could be convinced if I met one, though.
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] – lovely, artistic choice. The nicknames lean a bit too macho (?) for me, but I love it in full.
[name_f]Darcy[/name_f] – I definitely prefer this on a boy, but I sometimes wonder if a boy would appreciate being constantly associated with a literary heartthrob, ha!
[name_m]Ilya[/name_m] – yes! [name_f]Love[/name_f] him, though probably a brave choice in an English-speaking country.
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] ‘Barnaby’ – I’m afraid [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] doesn’t really make sense as a nickname for [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] to me. [name_m]Barney[/name_m] is still too purple dinosaur, but I’ve always thought [name_m]Barn[/name_m] or [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] could be nice.
[name_m]Sidney[/name_m] – underrated on a boy! [name_m]Sid[/name_m] is a sweet nickname.
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] – I wish I could get into this. I really like the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation (though vaguely reminiscent of ghee!) , but I can’t get over the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation and connection to the word.

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] or [name_f]Marina[/name_f] or [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] – [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is my favorite here, though they’re all nice! [name_f]Love[/name_f] how simple she is, yet also packs a punch! Since you like [name_f]Marcy[/name_f] as a nickname, I’ll throw out [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] as a nickname for these three.
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] – sweet, but a little too sweet for me. I prefer it as a nickname.
[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] ‘Roxy’ – I wish I liked this more, it’s still a bit dated for me and I don’t love the connection to the The Police song. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Roxana[/name_f], though!
[name_f]Hermia[/name_f] – underused and Shakespearian, love it! I’ll also suggest [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] as a similar option.
[name_f]Irena[/name_f] or [name_f]Irene[/name_f] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] the sound of [name_f]Irena[/name_f], especially with the ee-REH-nah pronunciation. And a beautiful meaning as well!
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ‘Sophie’ – I prefer just [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a full name personally!
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] – seems like a style departure compared to the rest of your list. I don’t dislike the sound, but she’s much more modern!
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] – very brave! I do like [name_f]Tiggy[/name_f] as a nickname, though.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] – lovely choice, though the pronunciation ambiguity gives me pause.
[name_f]Regan[/name_f] – I don’t mind the sound, but the literary and pop culture associations ruin it for me. I also know one who says it like [name_f]Reagan[/name_f], so I always second guess the pronunciation.
[name_f]Therese[/name_f] – one of my personal favorites, especially with the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation
[name_f]Hollis[/name_f] ‘Holly’ – I prefer [name_f]Hollis[/name_f] for a boy, but it’s growing on me for a girl.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] + variants – my personal favorite is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], but I also like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]!

And some combos for fun:

[name_m]Jude[/name_m] [name_f]Ariel[/name_f]
[name_m]Leonid[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Elliott[/name_m] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]

[name_m]Sidney[/name_m] [name_m]Francis[/name_m]
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] [name_f]Darcy[/name_f]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_m]Sacha[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f]

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] back!

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts:

[name_m]Elliott[/name_m] - gentle and cool, contemporary in vibe but well established

[name_f]Ariel[/name_f] - great meaning and Shakespearean vibes. Alternative options: [name_m]Remiel[/name_m], [name_m]Ari[/name_m], [name_m]Artan[/name_m], [name_m]Laertes[/name_m]

[name_m]Loïc[/name_m] - it feels arty, cool and distinctive

[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] ‘Rudy’ - I like [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] (warm but rugged) but [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] is too reindeer for me

[name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] - [name_m]George[/name_m] is classic and kind of cuddly, but with a soft sort of strength. I like [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] too (and Geordie!)

[name_m]Francis[/name_m] - classic and somehow both clunky and elegant

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] ‘Hal’ - love the soft, literary Henry; [name_m]Hal[/name_m] isn’t my fave, but it adds a different layer to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - something more outdoorsy

[name_m]Sacha[/name_m] - gentle but rugged and breezy

[name_m]James[/name_m] - objectively, it’s a strong, solid, versatile choice that could suit many kinds of people.

[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] ‘Vinnie’ or ‘Vince’ - [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] has arty elegance, and I like [name_f]Vinnie[/name_f]! [name_m]Vince[/name_m] is a bit harsh for my tastes, but would definitely suit some people!

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - a solid classic, not one I love, but there’s nothing bad about it. Some new ideas that are less like your name but a bit like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]: [name_f]Hollis[/name_f], [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], [name_m]Ivar[/name_m], [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - elegant, bright, and gentle

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] ‘Bash’ - cool and breezy but refined too

[name_f]Darcy[/name_f] - elegant and unexpected

[name_m]Harvey[/name_m] - clunky cool

[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] ‘Emil’ - bold and interesting, with a gentle sound

[name_m]Jude[/name_m] - cool, relaxed and friendly

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - sort of cuddly but rugged

[name_m]Leonid[/name_m] - distinctive and interesting

[name_m]Ilya[/name_m] - light and smart

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - earthy and warm in vibes

[name_m]Sidney[/name_m] - clunky cool
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] ‘Barnaby’ - bubbly and bright with a cool meaning

[name_m]William[/name_m] - it’s okay. Safe and classic, but I find it a bit slimy

[name_m]Guy[/name_m] - from an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking perspective, I find it a bit awkward :person_shrugging:

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] or [name_f]Marina[/name_f] or [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] → [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is lovely - the ocean vibes and bright sounds are great! [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is charming and literary

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - bright, cheerful and lovely!

[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - sweet but with plenty of flair

[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] ‘Marcy’ - elegant but cute

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] ‘Roxy’ - sharp, spiky and cool

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - sweet but sharp

[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - elegant, mystical and sharp with nice nn possibilities

[name_f]Hermia[/name_f] - earthy and charming but it does remind me a bit of hernia

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] - it’s got a hint of magic and poetry, but feels stylish too

[name_f]Irena[/name_f] or [name_f]Irene[/name_f] - I like the sharp, bright sounds and sweet meaning and whilst I like sp [name_f]Irina[/name_f] a little more, these are both lovely

[name_f]Verity[/name_f] - snappy, bright and cheerful

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ‘Sophie’ - I like the wise, sophisticated vibes - though I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] more than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]

[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] - I like the flow and surnamey vibes

[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] - sunny and bright

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - stylish but clunky cute

[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] - zippy and fun in sound, but very bold too

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - strong but gentle

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] ‘Beth’ - grounded and elegant - love sweet [name_f]Beth[/name_f]

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’ - solid and sophisticated - [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is warm but tough

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - starry and cool

[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] - bright and sparkly

[name_f]Callista[/name_f] - musical and lovely

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - literary and elegant with tomboyish vibes too

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] ‘Bea’ - elegant but fun

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - this have flair and disinctiveness

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - it’s okay - classic but underused, though I find it a bit heavy

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - sweet but solid and versatile

[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] ‘Sunny’ - pretty, warm and whimsical

[name_f]Regan[/name_f] - I like the sounds but not the president ties

[name_f]Therese[/name_f] - sort of arty and warm

[name_f]Helena[/name_f] - strong and bold but grounded

[name_f]Hollis[/name_f] ‘Holly’ - I like the blend of established and surnamey

[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] - I want to like it, but I don’t love that beginning sound

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is elegant, sweet but strong, and simple - but packs a punch. I also like Rosine/a, [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and [name_f]Roseanne[/name_f]

But oh dear, I didn’t think about the [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] Weinstein connection…
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is probably my favourite variation of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as well, thank you much again!

Many names on your list are my firm favourites!

these would often be in my top ten

Loïc, George & Georgie, Henry, Marianne, Marceline, Daphne, Cosima, Josephine, Sunniva, Rose

just these few aren't for me

Rudolf - sadly, I do think this is overwhelmingly reindeer related, unless you are in a country where it’s in regular use as a ‘people-name’
Guy - a bit too macho
Isolde - just not the sounds I enjoy

The rest fall between like and like a whole lot!

I find William ever so sweet, but to counteract the overuse I’d pair with something more unusual, e.g.
Loïc William, William Loïc
Jude William (that’s so handsome!)

Some other pairing ideas ~

Harvey Jude
Oliver Ambrose
Sasha James
Ilya Henry
Elliott Darcy

Marianne Soleil
Verity Soleil

You have a great list!

I love:

[name_m]Loïc[/name_m] - I love this but think it may be a little tricky for English-speakers
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] ‘Rudy’ - it absolutely works and especially if you use [name_m]Rudy[/name_m], the reindeer association is not a problem
[name_m]Sacha[/name_m] - this is just so cute for a boy
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] (though I like it in full, no nicknames)
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - though I’m partial to [name_m]Seb[/name_m] as a nickname rather than Bash
[name_f]Darcy[/name_f] - this is so handsome for a boy
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] ‘Emil’ - oh, this is great - I also like [name_m]Emil[/name_m] on its own
[name_m]Jude[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - one of my favourites
[name_m]Leonid[/name_m] - this is awesome and makes me think of the meteor shower
[name_m]Ilya[/name_m] - love this though I’d never use it personally
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Sidney[/name_m] - I do quite like this for a boy
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] ‘Barnaby’ - I like either

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] - this would be my choice out of the three, but [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] are good too
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - one of my favourites, in fact the ‘one that got away’ that I regret not using for one of my daughters
[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] - this is smashing, I like it with or without [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] as a nickname
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - not my style but I like it for someone else
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] - I think this deserves more use than it gets
[name_f]Irena[/name_f] or [name_f]Irene[/name_f] - I love both
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] - absolutely adore this!
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ‘Sophie’ - I prefer just [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as is, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is lovely
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] - this is a bit old school but I like its retro style
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] - it’s just fun
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - sweet
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] - not one I’d ever use but I like the sound
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - like this one a lot
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] ‘Beth’ - classy and classic
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’ - ditto
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] - love this, so pretty
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - one of my favourites
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] ‘Bea’
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - my #1 name that I never got a chance to use
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - sweet and pretty
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] - I’m not so keen on [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] but [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] is lovely
[name_f]Regan[/name_f] - I love seeing this on your list! I prefer it for a boy but also like it for a girl
[name_f]Therese[/name_f] - charming and retro
[name_f]Hollis[/name_f] ‘Holly’ - I’d just use [name_f]Holly[/name_f] as is
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] - pretty and princessy

These are so nice!!! I adore [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] [name_f]Amoret[/name_f], [name_m]Loïc[/name_m] [name_m]Sébastien[/name_m], [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_m]Emilian[/name_m]. Thank you so much!

These are to die for! Especially your girl combos. I’m awful at thinking combos up, so this is really helpful. I especially like [name_m]James[/name_m] [name_m]Ilya[/name_m], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]. Thank you!

Wow I love so many of these!! I’ll pick my favourites & the ones I’d drop:
Boys - love!: [name_m]James[/name_m] (my favourite ever), [name_m]Francis[/name_m] (close second, I love nn Frankie), [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ‘Hal’, [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Elliot[/name_m], [name_m]Sacha[/name_m] & [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
Boys - not so keen: [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] 'Rudy’ (I really hate that it contains the sound ‘rude!’), [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] (Mr Weinstein…), [name_m]Sidney[/name_m], [name_m]Guy[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] (it’s cute but I’ve known SO many) & [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
Girls - love!: [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (although I prefer her by herself, not with nn Sophie), [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (one of my favourites ever), [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (not my favourite but I adore Bea!),
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (another favourite!) & [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] (I wouldn’t personally use this one but she’s so pretty)
Girls - not a fan: Irena/Irene, [name_f]Callista[/name_f] (sounds a bit… medicinal?), [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], [name_f]Hermia[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f] (nothing wrong with the name just awful associations to me!), [name_f]Antigone[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] & [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
