1-1 names

I know the usual advice is to balance out a short last name with a longer first name, but the more I think about it, the more I realize short names have a lot of power and punch. A lot of people who are very successful in their fields have 1-1 names, or at least, stage/professional names, in a way it’s interesting they chose them. Here are some examples:

[name]Bill[/name] Gates
[name]Brad[/name] [name]Pitt[/name]
[name]Bruce[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Garth[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Bush[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Black[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] White
[name]John[/name] Voigt
[name]John[/name] [name]Wayne[/name]
[name]Mel[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]
[name]Steve[/name] Jobs
[name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name]
[name]Tom[/name] Hanks
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Grey[/name]

[name]Anne[/name] [name]Frank[/name] (I realize she probably pronounced [name]Anne[/name] differently)
[name]Glenn[/name] Close

A lot fewer women then men. Can you think of other examples?

[name]Stan[/name] [name]Lee[/name]??

~[name]Jasmine[/name]

At the moment I can only think of [name]Spike[/name] [name]Lee[/name]. Wow, I am totally blanking…

  • [name]Athena[/name]

[name]Claire[/name] Danes
[name]Kate[/name] Spade
[name]Brooke[/name] Shields
[name]Kate[/name] [name]Moss[/name]
[name]Mae[/name] [name]West[/name] (lol)

I’ve noticed a lot of celebrities have matching first and lasts: 1-1 or 2-2.

2-2 examples that comes to mind is [name]Justin[/name] Bieber, [name]Miley[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name], Lady Gaga (although that’s a stage name), [name]Katy[/name] [name]Perry[/name], [name]Harry[/name] Styles, [name]Niall[/name] Horan.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who can appreciate the punchiness of a 1-1 name! My SO isn’t as partial to one syllable names as I am, unfortunately. I love that it’s an unusual flow. I think that makes the combos more special.

Let’s see how many people I can name…
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Law[/name]
[name]John[/name] [name]Green[/name]
[name]Hank[/name] [name]Green[/name]
[name]Jane[/name] Eyre
[name]Paul[/name] [name]Thorn[/name]

I like 1-1 names as well! Interesting post. My son is a 1-1 and I love his name.

I think I like you.
Yes. Very much.

Fun! 1-1 names do have that bam-bam, punchy quality that makes them memorable.

[name]Jane[/name] [name]Lynch[/name]
[name]Faith[/name] [name]Hill[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name] [name]Grant[/name]
[name]John[/name] [name]Wayne[/name] (changed it, but still)
[name]Joan[/name] [name]Jett[/name] (ditto)

and…I’m out for now.

I agree, I like the 1-1 rhythm a lot. I don’t tend to have a problem with matching syllables at all, actually.

[name]John[/name] Clees
[name]Matt[/name] [name]Smith[/name]
[name]James[/name] Blunt
[name]Will[/name] [name]Smith[/name]
[name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name]
[name]Tom[/name] Hanks
[name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name]
[name]Will[/name] [name]Young[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Bond[/name]
[name]Roald[/name] Dahl
[name]Clark[/name] [name]Kent[/name]

[name]Kate[/name] [name]Bush[/name]

Definitely harder to think of women.
