This is my first post, but I have felt a part of the Nameberry family since I’m on here all the time! We have a baby girl on the way, our first child, and we are stuck on the name. We are looking for a name that is very feminine, classic (but not everywhere), and has a vintage twist (whatever that means…). The one name that I thought was perfect was [name]Everly[/name] and of course my husband doesn’t like it as well as his whole side of the family. I want to respect his opinion and I want him to love the name just as much as me, but I’m having a hard time coming up with one I love more than this one.
The middle name has to be [name]Rose[/name] (family name) and the last name is [name]Moore[/name]. That is mainly why I need the first name to be that much more powerful since the last name is pretty common. I also think it needs to have a least two syllables so it flows better with a one syllable last name. I really don’t want a common name and a lot of the ones I like are so overdone. I’m on the search for something that is new but classic and also not too weird. I want people to be able to pronounce her name on the first try and not sound like I tried too hard to create her name.
Another tidbit- My name and all my siblings and cousins have a name that starts with an A and I thought that I would always have babies with the names starting with an A as well. I’ve since realized that is not a must, but my middle name was [name]Anne[/name] before marriage and I decided to drop it in order to keep my maiden name as my last name. So I have now lost that name (which I loved) so any names that we could possibly turn into nn [name]Annie[/name] would be nice as a nod to my old name, but also not completely necessary.
Some names that I particularly love for style purposes only (obviously none are the “one”):
[name]Everly[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] or [name]Alivia[/name]
Anistyn (nn [name]Annie[/name])–maybe too masculine??
[name]Anabel[/name] or [name]Anabella[/name] (nn [name]Annie[/name])
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Lennox[/name] (maybe too weird for me-but like that it is not common)
[name]Ella[/name]/ [name]Elle[/name] (don’t like the one syllable)
[name]Annalee[/name] ( nn [name]Annie[/name])
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Adelyn[/name]
[name]Macie[/name]
He is a big history buff and loves the Civil War so any name that comes from an older time period, like [name]Shiloh[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name], he loves.
He’s open to different names though and is big on having a cute nickname.
I know this is a lot of information, but just like everyone else I just want it to be perfect. I can’t wait to see some of your suggestions. With only one month left, I hope to get this figured out or at least narrowed down by her due date.
Thank you for all your help!

What about [name]Emerson[/name] with the NN [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Emmie[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Francis[/name] or
[name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Louise[/name]
Oh - [name]Just[/name] noticed the interest in A names and thought of [name]Avery[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name] and [name]Ainsley[/name] as well. [name]Don[/name]'t lend themselves to the NN [name]Annie[/name], but would carry on the tradition.
A friend of mine recently used the name [name]Annelise[/name] and I think its an elegant and unique way to get the nn [name]Annie[/name]. [name]Antoinette[/name] and [name]Antonella[/name] are also lovely and perfect with [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds similar to [name]Everly[/name] and might go over better. [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is gorgeous! Here are some other names that came to to mind:
[name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (could still use nn annie)
[name]Harriette[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
My favourite non-[name]Anna[/name] A names:
[name]Aurora[/name], NN [name]Rory[/name]
[name]Amity[/name]
[name]Amy[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name] (Civil war era name, birth name of [name]Harriet[/name] Tubman)
[name]Amaryllis[/name], [name]Amarantha[/name] - two flower names that are offbeat, but have easy nicknames ([name]Amy[/name]) and were more popular in the 19th C.
[name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Alexandrina[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Aaliyah[/name]
[name]Aviva[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
Names that tie to [name]Anna[/name]:
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]/[name]Chana[/name]/[name]Hana[/name] - all forms of [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Anja[/name]/[name]Aine[/name]/[name]Anya[/name] - all pronounced Ahn-ya, all forms of [name]Anna[/name].
[name]Anita[/name]
[name]Anais[/name] - pronounced ah-nye-ees.
My favourite names that just have “anna” in them but different meanings/backgrounds:
[name]Jordanna[/name] - but [name]Jordana[/name] is the easier spelling.
[name]Susannah[/name] - Or [name]Susanna[/name].
[name]Isannah[/name] - one of [name]Paul[/name] Revere’s daughter’s names, a Colonial name of some note, but nobody at this point seems to agree on where it came from or what it means, though historians theorize it was a blend of [name]Susannah[/name] meaning ‘lily’ and [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name] meaning ‘grace.’
[name]Lila[/name]/[name]Lola[/name] remind me of some of my current L-preferences - [name]Lilac[/name], [name]Lilith[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lilibet[/name], [name]Leila[/name]. The double-L is really popular right now unfortunately.
[name]Emma[/name] reminds me of - [name]Emily[/name], which is my favourite common/overused [name]Em[/name]-name, and of the much more obscure [name]Emerald[/name] and [name]Emmanuela[/name], as well as [name]Esme[/name] and the long form [name]Esmeralda[/name].
I think with a simple last name like [name]Moore[/name] it’s sort of open season any of the long ones, even [name]Araminta[/name]/[name]Isannah[/name]/[name]Emmanuela[/name]/[name]Esmeralda[/name] because it’s not going to fight for attention or add up to 19 syllables.
I love [name]Everly[/name] [name]Rose[/name] but I understand your problem with hubs. I’m having the same issue right now. I recently had a friend name her daughter [name]Aston[/name]. Like the car [name]Aston[/name] [name]Martin[/name].
Avonlea! (AV like in ‘have’, un-lee. You have the setting for the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables books in gorgeous [name]PEI[/name], it starts with an A, you could use [name]Avy[/name] (Avvy?) as a nn, you get that v sound in there like in [name]Everly[/name]… I don’t know, I kind of love it.
[name]Annemarie[/name] is what choose for our first daughter. We often get complements on its classic and vintage feel. She is always introduced as [name]Annemarie[/name] but those that know her well call her [name]Annie[/name].
[name]Love[/name] the suggestions of [name]Annelise[/name], [name]Susanna[/name] and [name]Anastasia[/name]! Oh, and [name]Juliana[/name]. We almost named our DD that. [name]Susanna[/name] sounds very Civil War time period to me. Also love [name]Annemarie[/name] or [name]Annamaria[/name]. You could combine [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Anna[/name] with a lot of different names to find one you love. We almost did [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Frances[/name], and I love Annasophia.
Surely there must be an [name]Annabel[/name] connected to the Civil War somehow? That would be beautiful, and as stylish as [name]Everly[/name]. (I’m surprised he’s rejecting [name]Everly[/name] yet plugging for [name]Reason[/name]!)
I know! It doesn’t make sense. But I also think he’s been hearing a lot of opinions around him of people who don’t like it, so I’m sure that’s not helping. [name]Reason[/name] is a family name from generations ago and it is actually meant for a boy so I told him we needed to find something else girlier for this one. I like a [name]Annabel[/name]. I’ll have to run that by the hubs! Thanks!
I really like the name “[name]Mila[/name]”
But as you said that you want to have “[name]Anne[/name]/[name]Annie[/name]” as the nn that obviously isn’t going to work. Have you considered a hyphoned name? Such as: “[name]Analise[/name] [name]Mila[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] [name]Moore[/name]” The name [name]Analise[/name] checks the boxes for your description. It is feminine, classic, not common and vintage! [name]Even[/name] “[name]Analise[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Moore[/name]” is pretty, and if you have another baby girl in the future her name can include [name]Mila[/name]!
Good luck with your baby!
