1. Naming Character X

1: ‘NAMING X’ Form

Genre of [name_u]Story[/name_u]: Literary fiction

Time Period/Location: around present day, Chicago

Character Description: She is mid-to-late 70’s, sort of frail looking, of Polish descent

Brief Plot: She’s suffering from memory loss and actually ‘renaming’ herself, as she hates how plain and clunky the name “[name_f]Jane[/name_f]” from ‘[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Doe[/name_f]’ feels.

Immediate Family (if relevant): Unknown

Already Considered (if relevant): [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]

[name_m]Don[/name_m]’t Suggest These Names: names that feel distinctly modern

Anything else?: I’m looking for a name that’s unusual, but has a classical, feminine feel to it, if that makes sense.

Names in the same vein as [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] and [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]:
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
Georigana

[name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find something that fits! Good luck!

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] was the first thing I thought of. It’s hard though, when she doesn’t remember anything about herself. What’s her personality? Is she eccentric etc? What led to her memory loss?

Neither [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] nor Marchaline are Polish, and hard to read. Think as a reader. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you really want to read those clumsy names for an entire novel? Think 2 syllable phonetic spelling names.

I feel an older woman would choose a more classic less romantic sounding name.

The English name: [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
The Polish variations [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Katarzyna[/name_f], Agnieszka, [name_f]Roza[/name_f], Zophia
Other Polish options: [name_f]Kaska[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f]/[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], Krystiana, [name_f]Janina[/name_f]
Other English options: [name_f]Paulina[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Mim[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f]

[name_f]Apolonia[/name_f] ([name_f]Polly[/name_f]) was my first thought.
