Right now the front runner for our baby’s name is [name]Graham[/name] [name]Fox[/name] (3-syllable last name beginning with B). [name]Graham[/name] has been set in stone as a first name for ages, and [name]Fox[/name] is a guilty pleasure of mine that has some subtle family significance, and DH is actually on board with it.
At first I thought the two monosyllabic and consonant-heavy names in a row sounded too choppy, but the more I said it the more I liked it. (I’m in the US where [name]Graham[/name] is pronounced “[name]Gram[/name]” rather than “[name]Gray[/name]-um”.) Now paranoia is kicking in and I’m doubting myself again =) DH says I’m over-thinking it since no one will ever call him “[name]Graham[/name] [name]Fox[/name]” except for us when he’s in trouble, ha ha. But I still want it to sound nice. What say you, Nameberry?
BTW, the option of adding a 2nd middle name to help flow isn’t an option as DS #1 has only one middle name and I want to stay consistent.
I think it’s fine. My grandmother had a 1-1 syllable name ([name]Ruth[/name] [name]Mae[/name]), so I find myself attracted to the flow when it works. I really love [name]Eve[/name]-[name]Claire[/name] as a double-barrel, but it doesn’t get much love on here (or, anywhere, really). I think [name]Graham[/name] [name]Fox[/name] definitely works, especially since (and I say it [name]GRAM[/name], too) when I say it, it sounds almost like 1 and a half syllables if that makes sense.
I like it, and think it sounds just fine! [name]Even[/name] though it is one syllable, [name]Graham[/name] is still a longer name so I don’t think of it in the same terms as I think of [name]Fox[/name]. (I know that doesn’t make sense, I will try to explain haha) 3 letter names are placed in the “legitimately short” category to me. I am an [name]Amy[/name] and even though I have 2 syllables I’ve always thought of my name as being short, so in that aspect [name]Graham[/name] doesn’t strike me as a “short” name and I don’t think it sounds choppy together at all! Especially with a longer last name, I don’t think it would ever be an issue. Coincidentally my best friend is having a baby early next year and he will be named [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Fox[/name] so I am a huge fan of this combo and [name]Fox[/name] is Such an awesome middle name for a little boy. Adorable! =]
Yay!! Thanks so much. This baby is officially NAMED. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Fox[/name] if he’s a boy, [name]Violet[/name] [name]Isadora[/name] if she’s a girl
