10 weeks to go and no baby name yet!!HELP!!!

[name]Hi[/name] Berries,

We need help! My husband and I have completely different taste in names. We are not finding out the baby’s sex and I am starting to really worry our baby will be nameless. We only have about 10 weeks left to decide!

Our last name is [name]Flann[/name] so sadly names starting with an F or Ph are out as they sound odd.

Here are our top picks:

Girls:
Mine: 1-[name]Esme[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
2-[name]Cordelia[/name] (nn [name]Cora[/name]) [name]Josephine[/name]
3-[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name]) [name]Josephine[/name]

*[name]Josephine[/name] is a name to honor a family member.

His: 1-[name]Jolene[/name]
2-[name]Marley[/name]
3-[name]Aubrey[/name]

Boys:
Mine: 1-[name]Arlo[/name]
2-[name]Bennett[/name] (nn [name]Ben[/name])
3-[name]Ronan[/name]

His: 1-Caballero
2-[name]Ramone[/name]

Any ideas for names that we would both love??? I thought we had agreed on [name]Cordelia[/name] for a girl but now my husband isn’t so sure anymore…

Help!!!

Hmm…

Well, for girls, I would try to avoid [name]Josephine[/name] because of how it clashes with your last name. Maybe [name]Jolene[/name] could be a mn compromise and still act as a nod to your relative named [name]Josephine[/name]? For a first name, have you considered [name]Audrey[/name]? It seems to be slightly more your style than [name]Aubrey[/name]. Perhaps [name]Ramona[/name] would work as well (blends your husband’s fav [name]Ramone[/name] with your more sophisticated style).

For boys, I really don’t know what to say. The names on your list are great, but I don’t like the one’s on your husband’s list at all. : /

Oh my gosh! I had such tunnel vision that I didn’t notice [name]Josephine[/name] clashes with our last name!! Thanks for pointing that out  Maybe he would go for choosing the middle name for a girl haha.

I did suggest [name]Audrey[/name]. DH didn’t like it. He’s very picky but doesn’t suggest much and when he does it’s usually a little out there. I had a list of 50 girls names and he didn’t like any of them :frowning: I detest his boys names. I’m really starting to panic. I’m on here obsessively looking for something and no luck yet. Thanks again for your help

Too bad about [name]Audrey[/name]-- I thought that would be a good compromise too (it’s just one letter different from [name]Aubrey[/name] so I don’t see what’s so different about it). What about [name]Audra[/name] or [name]Ardith[/name] instead?

[name]Jolene[/name] sounds dated to me and I’m not sure that names ending with an -n work well with your last name. What about [name]Joelle[/name], [name]Jolie[/name], [name]Jolee[/name], [name]Josie[/name], [name]Josette[/name], or [name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julie[/name] instead?

What about [name]Coralie[/name] instead of [name]Cordelia[/name]? You could still use [name]Cora[/name] as a nn and it sounds pretty similar to [name]Marley[/name] too.

I don’t think [name]Marley[/name] or [name]Aubrey[/name] work well for a girl either-- they are a little too masculine to me. What about [name]Carly[/name], [name]Clary[/name], [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Elise[/name], [name]Leonie[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Macy[/name], [name]Marcy[/name], [name]Mary[/name], Marlies/Marlise, or [name]Verity[/name] instead?

Some other possible names:

[name]Annelise[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] (nn [name]Rory[/name])
[name]Avis[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]/[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name] nn [name]Tavi[/name]/[name]Tavy[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Xanthe[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]

For a boy, what about [name]Carlo[/name] or [name]Carlos[/name]? [name]One[/name] of these would be similar to [name]Arlo[/name] and has a Spanish sound which your DH seems to like.

Some other possibilities:

[name]Alberto[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Diego[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Eduardo[/name] ([name]Ed[/name], [name]Eddy[/name])
[name]Enzo[/name]
[name]Frederico[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Francisco[/name] (nn [name]Frank[/name], [name]Frankie[/name])
[name]Ivo[/name]
[name]Lazlo[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Ricardo[/name]
[name]Roberto[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Viggo[/name]

I’m surprised that you’re using [name]Josephine[/name] as a mn with the last name [name]Flann[/name]. It sounds clashy as well.

I do love [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Marley[/name] for a girl! For a boy the choices of [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name] are amazing! Good luck to you!

Wow, Caballero? That’s a first. I actually think your boy names can be reconciled. I’m just going to throw out a bunch of stuff, but you seem to like Irish names, but they’re very laid back everyman names that I think can mix with your husband’s cowboy thing.

[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]West[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name]
[name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Toby[/name]

With [name]Jolene[/name], [name]Ramone[/name], and [name]Marley[/name] all on the list, I’m guessing your husband likes music. Maybe we can come up with some music names that your husband would like.

[name]Lennon[/name] (although it does sound like [name]Lenin[/name])
[name]Harrison[/name] ([name]Harry[/name])
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Jett[/name]
[name]Crosby[/name]
[name]Bowie[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name] ([name]Lane[/name])
[name]Everly[/name]

[name]How[/name] about [name]Marlene[/name] (either [name]Mar[/name]-len-uh or [name]Mar[/name]-leen: the last can be combo between [name]Jolene[/name] and [name]Marley[/name] but would be more your speed) and [name]Roman[/name] (mix between [name]Ramone[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name]).

I like the idea of Marlene Josie Flann.

First of all, from your husband’s favorites you have to rule out [name]Jolene[/name] because the -n sound at the end of [name]JoleNe[/name] does not work with [name]Flann[/name], neither does it work with [name]Josephine[/name] in the middle.

[name]Marlene[/name] [name]Josie[/name] [name]Flann[/name] is a good suggestion. I like the idea of [name]Josie[/name] as a substitute for [name]Josephine[/name] in this case as it gives the full name great syllabic flow: a three, two, one pattern!

In general names without strong L or N sounds seem to sound best with [name]Flann[/name]. Sometimes if it is a soft L or N sound it works. And sometimes depending on where in the name the L or N occur it is fine.

Based on your lists here are some ideas that try to bridge your tastes:

similar to [name]Cordelia[/name]:
[name]Celia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name],
[name]Darcy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name],
[name]Camila[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name],
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name],
[name]Coral[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name], (this works better than [name]Coralie[/name] to my ear)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name].

similar to [name]Esme[/name]:
[name]Brie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Elisa[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Emelia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]

similar to [name]Charlotte[/name]:
[name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lotte[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Samantha[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]

similar to [name]Aubrey[/name] & [name]Marley[/name]:
[name]Abra[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Aria[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Amerie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Flann[/name] nn [name]Gigi[/name]

Anything appeal? Good luck!

[name]Aubrey[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] definetely gets my vote! And [name]Bennett[/name] for a boy.

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful suggestions! There are some gems on here and I will chat with my husband when he gets home. Now I’m double thinking Joesphine. I cant believe i didnt notice how it clashes with [name]Flann[/name]! I like the [name]Josie[/name] suggestion or I may use her middle name, [name]Antoinette[/name] instead. Our son’s middle name is to honour my grandfather so we wanted to honour my grandmother if we have a girl as they are the only living great grandparents our children have. Again THANK YOU so much and I’ll keep you all posted!

PS sparrowfinch you’re bang on! My husband’s suggestions are usually music/cowboy/skateboarding/surfing related. The only reason he agreed to name our son [name]Oliver[/name] is because [name]Ollie[/name] is a skateboard trick lol!
