10 year old B/G twins need naming

Father’s name: [name]Sergei[/name] Pavlovich Belyakov (His Naming Topic and Info Here)
He is of Russian heritage, and Russian born.
Mother’s name: Dinora [name]Frances[/name] Favero-Belyakova (Her Naming Topic and Info Here)
She is of Greek-Italian heritage, and is UK born.

They have an older sister, [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Valentina[/name] Sergeievna Belyakova. (Her Naming Topic and Info Here)

[name]Both[/name] of them will have patronymic likes their elder sister, so the boy will be Firstname Middlename Sergeivich Belyakov, and the girl will have the same set up as [name]Andrea[/name].
Important note: the boy is rather preferred by his mother, and a bit by his father. His mother is ver blatant in her favoritism, whereas the father is just happy to have a boy to bond with.
Originally they had names, but that’s when they’re heritage was primarily French, since that has changed drastically, so much their names.

So far I have these as ideas for them:
Boy- Originally [name]Adrien[/name] [name]Noel[/name].
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Francesco[/name] - his mother’s middle is [name]Frances[/name], so this would be her prideful choice.
[name]Stefan[/name] - means “crown”, again fitting with his mother’s views.
[name]Mikhail[/name] nn [name]Misha[/name]

  • as a middle name [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Tommaso[/name], [name]Lorenzo[/name], [name]Angelo[/name], [name]Alonzo[/name], [name]Alfonso[/name].

Personality: he’s a bit of a comedian, but he’s pretty corny. Though he eventually grows out of it at around 14.
He’s very much into Quidditch, and he’s a study kind of person. Very dedicated to things he’s interested in. He’s a bit whiny, doesn’t like to do things for himself, and prefers to have his sisters do it for him, to the point where he’ll deny himself food if someone doesn’t get it for him. He’s definitely a bit spoiled, but not rotten. He’s quite sharp, and sneaky.
I see him being sorted into Ravenclaw, but I really don’t know.
Appearance: Dark brown/almost black hair, tannest skin, freckles across his nose and upper cheeks, dark green eyes.

Girl - Originally [name]Karin[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name].
[name]Ivana[/name] - nn Vana
[name]Irina[/name] - nn [name]Nina[/name]
[name]Karina[/name] - I like this because it’s close to her original name.

  • as a middle name, [name]Aleksandra[/name]/[name]Alexandra[/name], Konstantina, [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Tatiana[/name].

    Personality:
she’s the over-looked child, since she’s the last, and the second girl there’s not much “special” about her. [name]Andrea[/name] took on a bit of a mothering role with her, and this leads to her younger sister looking up to her a great deal. She always sides with [name]Andrea[/name], and is quick to jump up and get her things/do favours.
She’s a fairly quiet child, but can be quite chatty when happy and content. She’ll often come into [name]Andrea[/name]'s room and site quietly in a corner to read and be in her big sister’s company. She has a nasty temper on her though, and is very quick and sharp with words. She doesn’t like opening up if she thinks people will be negative, or not listen to her. She’s known to shut down, and refuse to answer her parents when they press her for answers. She can be rather defiant, and blatantly ignore directions given to her by her parents if she doesn’t want to do them.
I see her in Slytherin or Ravenclaw, but I really don’t know.
Appearance: Sandy blonde hair, hazel eyes, lighter tan skin.
    Other ideas are welcome!

[name]Anton[/name] & [name]Irina[/name]

[name]Both[/name] Greek names in heavy circulation in [name]Russia[/name]; [name]Anton[/name] meaning “priceless, noble” and [name]Irina[/name] of course meaning ‘peace.’

I agree with blade’s idea of [name]Anton[/name]. [name]Anton[/name] [name]Lorenzo[/name] Sergeivich Belyakov would be superb. As for the girl I’m drawn to [name]Ivana[/name] or [name]Irina[/name].

Have you taken any Sorting [name]Hat[/name] quizzes that use the questions from Pottermore? Here’s one that I’ve found to be most accurate: http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/gDvAHM-/Pottermore-Sorting-Hat-Quiz

I like [name]Stefan[/name] and [name]Katerina[/name]. I also like the nickname [name]Nina[/name], and I think that could be used with [name]Katerina[/name]. My only concern is that the names you have chosen for all of these characters are, ah…extremely heavy. Honestly, I skipped over the names because I didn’t want to focus on trying to pronounce them. However, I am willing to overlook this because a) they are characters and not an actual human being with this name and b) this is probably because of their heritage, which you stated.
Good luck!

My pick is also [name]Stefan[/name], with either [name]Lorenzo[/name] or [name]Alonzo[/name] - and [name]Katerina[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name].

I like the suggestion of “[name]Anton[/name]”, but prefer “[name]Mikhail[/name]” (nickname ‘[name]Misha[/name]’). That avoids the older sister and him having a name that begins with A, which is pretty useful when it comes to naming characters. For a middle name I like [name]Lorenzo[/name]. [name]Mikhail[/name] [name]Lorenzo[/name] Sergeivich Belyakov. For the girl I really like [name]Karina[/name] as a first name. I sounds unusual, but still very pretty and in theme with her surname and heritage. I like [name]Karina[/name] [name]Aleksandra[/name] Sergeievna Belyakova.

I can’t believe I didn’t notice how similar [name]Andrea[/name] and [name]Anton[/name] are. They sound like they should be the twins.

I want to officially change my vote to [name]Stefan[/name] and [name]Irina[/name].

Haha, yeah, I’m naming them based on heritage and their mother’s personality. She’s the type of person to give elaborate “rich” sounding names.

Okay, so I hadn’t noticed the same beginning with [name]Andrea[/name], and [name]Antonio[/name]/[name]Anton[/name]- and [name]Antonina[/name]. So that’s scrapped.

I really like [name]Ivana[/name], [name]Irina[/name] and [name]Karina[/name] for the sister, so those are my focuses. The fact that [name]Irina[/name]'s greek based and used in [name]Russia[/name] is great. And I could use [name]Nina[/name] as a nn still I think

For the boy I’m liking [name]Stefan[/name], [name]Adrian[/name], [name]Francesco[/name], [name]Mikhail[/name] atm.

@southern.maple Thank you for the Pottermore related sorting quiz! That’s perfect!
I modled these characters after kids I know, and I just had them do the quiz, based on the kids the twins are based on, the brother is in Gryffindor, and the girl is in Slytherin.
Based on my insight on the characters, their both Slytherin. I kind of liked the idea of the boy being the “odd one out”, and not being in his mother’s ideal house as a plot twist. I’d probably just put him in Ravenclaw instead which I do think fits his personality a bit better.

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Alfonzo[/name]

[name]Natalia[/name] [name]Tatiana[/name]

[name]Stefan[/name] [name]Francesco[/name] and [name]Irina[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]?

I like that one, I’d change [name]Alexandra[/name] to [name]Aleksandra[/name] though. I’m also considering [name]Irina[/name] [name]Constantina[/name]/Konstantina, but is the -ina too redundant?

I think [name]Irina[/name] is a good middle ground with [name]Ivana[/name] and [name]Karina[/name]. The meaning of “peace” is very fitting for her character.

[name]Stefan[/name] [name]Francesco[/name] feels like it’s a very high possibility, I’d say [name]Adrian[/name] [name]Francesco[/name] is my other consideration.
[name]Adrian[/name] feels more fitting and like him because the meaning “dark”, and the boy is supposed to have the darkest colouring like his mother.

I chose [name]Aleksandra[/name] over Konstantina because the double -ina did feel redundant and sing-songy.

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Andrea[/name] and [name]Adrian[/name] are too similar? [name]Both[/name] names beginning with “A” and having the very similar “dria”/“drea” is what’s throwing me off.

Argh, I hadn’t noticed that! I haven’t been writing the sibsets out yet, so I’m missing all of these. Bahumbug.
Looks like [name]Adrian[/name]'s out then.

[name]Andrea[/name], [name]Stefan[/name], and [name]Irina[/name]. I think that balances well, [name]Irina[/name] feels a bit too dainty, but not overly. I don’t like the [name]Irena[/name] spelling at all for her.
[name]Andrea[/name], [name]Stefan[/name], and [name]Ivana[/name] feels perfectly balanced, but I’m not 100% on [name]Ivana[/name] over [name]Irina[/name].
[name]Andrea[/name], [name]Stefan[/name], and [name]Karina[/name]…I think the sister should have an I initial…it just feels like her.

So at this point, [name]Stefan[/name] is set for the brother: [name]Stefan[/name] [name]Francesco[/name] Sergeivich Beylakov

The sister is between [name]Irina[/name] and [name]Ivana[/name], as both fit her quite well:

[name]Irina[/name] [name]Aleksandra[/name] Sergeievna Belyakova
[name]Ivana[/name] [name]Aleksandra[/name] Sergeievna Belyakova
[name]Ivana[/name] Konstantina Sergeievna Belyakova

I feel like I’m leaning more towards [name]Ivana[/name], but [name]Irina[/name] seems more like something her mother would pick. It’s another [name]Andrea[/name] vs. [name]Anastasia[/name] dilemma. [name]Ivana[/name] being the one I think fit her best, but [name]Irina[/name] being more like what her mother would select.

Perhaps I can have it that [name]Andrea[/name] named her sister, or perhaps the father picked the name this time, rather than the mother. I could make that work in if I had it as though when the twins were born, the mother put more focus onto [name]Stefan[/name], because she looked more like her, and was the boy. Where as the girl wasn’t neglected or unloved by her mother by any means, but wasn’t as favoured and had less time with her. Perhaps when it came to selecting the name, the father and [name]Andrea[/name] decided together. At that point [name]Andrea[/name] would’ve been 6, if my math is right.

Hmm… If Dinora named [name]Andrea[/name] and [name]Stefan[/name], then I think it’s only fair that [name]Sergei[/name] gets to name [name]Irina[/name]/[name]Ivana[/name]. I really like the idea of [name]Sergei[/name] and [name]Andrea[/name] picking out her name together.

It’s a tough call between [name]Ivana[/name] and [name]Irina[/name]. I feel like if [name]Sergei[/name] chose the name it would lean Russian, and [name]Irina[/name] feels more Russian to me than [name]Ivana[/name]. I checked Behind the Name, and a few different people commented that [name]Ivana[/name]/[name]Ivanna[/name] is extremely rare in [name]Russia[/name]. (Behind the Name doesn’t list even list [name]Ivana[/name] as Russian.) I did a Google search to see if I could find [name]Ivana[/name] on a list of Russian girls’ names, and these are a few I found:

[name]Yana[/name] would be the feminine form of [name]John[/name] that you’d see in use in [name]Russia[/name]. [name]Just[/name] something to consider.

ETA: Here’s the Behind the Name page for [name]Ivana[/name]. Meaning, origin and history of the name Ivana - Behind the Name

Ahh, that’s a good point with [name]Ivana[/name].

My idea with the names is that Dinora intended to only have one child, and wanted [name]Anastasia[/name] for [name]Andrea[/name], but [name]Sergei[/name] felt it was way too over the top. They agreed to compromise with [name]Andrea[/name] nn [name]Anya[/name] for some reason (haven’t really thought that reason out yet).
Then when she ended up pregnant with twins, and one was a boy, [name]Sergei[/name] let her pick the name entirely, and since the other was a girl and Dinora was somewhat more enthralled with [name]Stefan[/name], she had no arguments when [name]Andrea[/name] and [name]Sergei[/name] picked out whichever name.

But you raise a good point with [name]Ivana[/name] not being Russian enough. Argh.
Perhaps I can have it as a tribute to a family member named [name]Ivan[/name]. I haven’t thought much about extended family beyond [name]Sergei[/name]'s father. (I needed to pick out his name to pick [name]Sergei[/name]'s patronymic) Maybe his favourite uncle, or brother, can be [name]Ivan[/name] and [name]Ivana[/name] resembled him at birth and he went with it. It could be her blondish hair which no one else really has in the family that connects her to a Cousin/Uncle [name]Ivan[/name]?
I think that’s fix the rarity in [name]Russia[/name] thing, since [name]Ivan[/name] is commonly used and they’re in the UK at this point.

[name]Ivana[/name] as a tribute to an [name]Ivan[/name] could definitely work! I thought it was odd that [name]Ivana[/name] is so rare in [name]Russia[/name] whereas [name]Ivan[/name] is so popular…

I know right? It’s very peculiar to me.
But then again, it could be kind of like how [name]Michael[/name] is in the top 10 but [name]Michaela[/name] wasn’t always very used. Or better yet, like [name]James[/name] and [name]Jamesina[/name].

I’m 99% sure [name]Ivana[/name] is her name, it feels more fitting. I’m just torn on [name]Aleksandra[/name] or Konstantina/[name]Constantina[/name]. [name]Ivana[/name] [name]Aleksandra[/name]'s a bit redundant I’m thinking.

If [name]Ivana[/name] is her name then I like Konstantina for her middle name.

[name]Ivana[/name] is like [name]Johnna[/name]. [name]Johnna[/name]'s a legitimate name, but for centuries we’ve used [name]Joan[/name] and [name]Jane[/name].

Also, [name]Stephen[/name] in Russian is written with the letter phi, so is often transliterated [name]Stephan[/name].

Ahh, thank you.

I’m sticking with the [name]Stefan[/name] spelling, since the mother’s Greek-Italian and it’s closest to the Italian form [name]Stefano[/name].
