I’ve always somewhat liked the idea for a boy of going by their first and middle name initials. Like, going strictly or primarily by their initials as opposed to their actual first name. If our last child had been a boy I was really into calling him J.R. for John Russell. He would have been known as “J.R.” though. But alas, she was not a boy, haha.
Anyhow, often we hear combinations like J.T. and P.J. etc… I am curious what other, perhaps less common, initial combinations you have come across or would consider using yourself?
Personally, I have heard of or known the following:
J.R.
C.J.
C.B.
K.J.
T.J.
E.R.
C.T.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is EJ! I don’t think my husband is on board though or I would love a little [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u], EJ.
I think any letter plus J works wonderfully, and I think they’re fun and boyish! One of my close friends is LJ, but she’s actually a woman - and wears it well!
[name_f]My[/name_f] uncle’s initials are JT, because my grandma wanted him to go by JT, but it never stuck, lol! He just goes by his first name.
I know an SC (Sar@h-Cl@ire), an EJ (Erv!n J0seph), a JJ (Just!in J0hn), a TJ (I don’t know her full name!), an AJ (don’t know his name either), and a JT (his name is [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and his last name starts with L—I have no idea why he goes by this).
I also really love MJ, particularly for a girl—thanks, Spider-Man!
I’ve met a number of various __J names … I can think of guys I know called AJ, CJ, DJ, EJ, JJ, KJ, LJ, MJ, RJ, and TJ. Also girls called TJ, KJ, and MJ. I’m not sure what most of them are short for.
Otherwise I’ve known guys named JT, JD, JR, JP, and AY – I’m not sure why J is so popular in both positions, maybe just because of how many classic J boys’ names there are?
I saw a little girl at a birthday party called LJ last week! I was so curious about the story because her name!
The most unique one I know is HD. He’s almost 30, so he was named before “high definition,” or at least before it was widely known haha. I don’t know if that’s just his name or it’s initials that stand for something. I know his name online is HD + [middle name] + [last name], so I’m curious!
I like the ones that start with J the best. I’ve known guys named JT, JR, JP, and JW. Some of these were first/middle initials and some were first/last initials. One JP was short for the compound first name JonP@ul.
I’ve read a book with a character named JB, which I really like. I think JD or JC could also work.
I have known a TJ whose legal name was just TJ. So that is an option, but I prefer using a longer name so they can choose what they prefer down the road. I’ve known a couple guys who used both their first names and their initials, so I think having both is preferable.
I bet! So many Johns, Jameses, etc. A lot of people I know the initials that end in J are a junior named after their parent. So I know a TJ who is a Ted Jr, but his actual middle name is not a J name.
I’m not a big fan of initial names, but I know a lot of people like them. I’m a teacher so I see a bunch!
Actual people I have met:
AJ, BJ, CJ, DJ, EJ, J.J., K.J., P.J., R.J., S.J., T.J. (I also know a girl named [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] and we call her L.J. sometimes just for fun, and I’ve heard M.J. and O.J. but never met one)
J’s work very well.
Some other random ones I know are [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] who goes by B.B. (get it, for [name_m]Bill[/name_m] Bradley).
I know an H.B. and an F.G. and both of those are harsh.
C.D and C.E. Oh and J.B. and J.T.
There are just so many! I also knew an “A. Jay”. It was long ago and I can’t remember what the A stood for, but his name was something like [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] or whatever, and he went by A. [name_u]Jay[/name_u].
Off the top of my head:
RJ (Robert James; his son is a III and was called BJ as a kid but prefers [name_m]Rob[/name_m] now)
TJ (one [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], one [name_m]Travis[/name_m] John)
AJ (August James; his son is a [name_m]Jr[/name_m] and goes by Gus)
DJ (short for Disc Jockey, which is not his actual name; don’t know what his real name is )
JJ (Jeremiah James)
JT (Jody Thomas)
Oh and I grew up on [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] Henry’s horse stories, and in [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_m]Gold[/name_m], about the racehorse, there’s a jockey called [name_m]Jaydee[/name_m] (initials JD, for [name_u]John[/name_u] David.) Interesting to me how that one always got spelled out.
