Our darling baby girl is 10 weeks today and is still without a name. I know, its terribly tragic.
I knew it may take a week or so after meeting her to come up with a name but this task becomes more and more insurmountable as the weeks go by. Why is this so hard?!!
Others can look at their bub and say “oh, you’re a so and so…” but that’s difficult when you never even had a shortlist to begin with. There were so many other things to take care of in the lead up to the birth that thinking of names kind of fell by the wayside.
I can not begin to tell you the stress and guilt this has caused. Its supposed to be an enjoyable time thinking of names, but instead its become a chore, devoid of any pleasure. I’ve spent endless hours and days scouring the internet, flipping through baby name books and still haven’t found ‘the one’. It’s become a case of analysis by paralysis.
I suspect this is so hard as I’m looking for a slightly unique name…something that is considered “exotic lite” which of course is exotic, but not too exotic…is international but still recognisable. Something different, but not too far out there. There is a list on Nameberry (Exotic Lite Baby Names | Nameberry), but I wonder if you clever Berries might be able to think of others?
I like [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] since [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] was one a classic.
What about…
[name_f]Brandy[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f]
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
Also, if you like a name don’t stare at it until you hate it, try calling her that for a day see if the shoe fits. While reading lists don’t just breeze of skim over the (I’m guilty of this) actually read into names. Most importantly, don’t stress, you’ll find the name; worst case… she’ll name herself.
Start with names that you love, I know that mind sound simple but it’s a start and as futuremummyto5 said, try calling her that for the day and see if she looks like that name or if she responds to it.
I really like;
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
I don’t want to overwhelm you with a big, long list.
After reading your post, a few names popped into my mind.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]…Feels international, sleek, sophisticated. Fits in with many cultures.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]…Has an “exotic” flair…Is feminine and classic while still quite rare (but not weird!).
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]…Has a lovely [name_m]French[/name_m] feel, but is easily pronounced in English. Also has sweet nicknames [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Cammy[/name_f] that could fit many different types of personality.
[name_f]Elora[/name_f]
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]
Good luck finding the perfect name for your little one.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Malia[/name_f] or [name_f]Malina[/name_f]. [name_f]Malina[/name_f] is from Poland, Serbia, and Bulgaria, but it is still very pronounceable. I love [name_f]Malina[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u].
As previous posters have said, I agree that you probably don’t need a long list to peruse as it is overwhelming. Ones I love for you and hope you love them too :-)…
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] ([name_m]Zan[/name_m]-THEE)
[name_f]Mireille[/name_f] (meer-AYE)
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anja[/name_f]
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] (so-[name_m]LAY[/name_m])
[name_f]Elin[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
Maybe you will be able to create a small list of perhaps four or five that helps you focus on only those? Good luck and I would love to hear what your final choice is!
Good luck deciding, it must be so stressful to not have a name after she’s already born! Exotic lite to me would be names from other cultures/languages that aren’t generally used here but that would feel familiar, that would be unusual but not appear downright strange. Here are some suggestions:
I really like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. Other than those two, I like [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Caia[/name_f], [name_f]Raina[/name_f], and [name_f]Nola[/name_f].
Sira (the main character in The Time in Between - so pretty and simple)

[name_u]Zola[/name_u]
Rixa
[name_u]Amal[/name_u]
[name_f]Thais[/name_f]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]

[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_u]Alix[/name_u]
