[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is due any day now. I posted about her name on here months ago and was so happy with all the support I received. I did decide to go with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful, feminine and classic. I want to use it together as in call her [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] not just [name_f]Mary[/name_f] but I dislike the hyphenated look of Mary-Rose.
I also am wondering if I should give her another middle name to go with it? Personally I have always been a little annoyed by the extra middle names for kids because I always feel it’s like they’re heir to the throne or something
But I had considered [name_f]Susan[/name_f] for her because it’s my Mom’s name and I would have loved to include her in my daughters name…. But [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] sounds odd to me. Advice from all you beautiful people please.
[name_f]My[/name_f] boys are [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_m]Jason[/name_m] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] but [name_u]Robert[/name_u] is usually [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] and [name_u]David[/name_u] is either [name_u]David[/name_u] or sometimes [name_m]Davey[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] goes very well with classic names like [name_u]David[/name_u] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u].
Oh and the surname is plain old [name_m]Smith[/name_m].
if you’re intending to call her Mary Rose, have you considered having Mary Rose (without the hyphen) as her first name, and Susan as her middle name? i think that would work! Mary Rose Susan doesn’t flow perfectly, but it’s fine, and the meaning is more important than the sound.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] seems substantial enough on its own to me, but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] is nice too! I’ve known kids with muchhh longer names too
I think you have to weigh up a few things:
- would you regret not using your mother’s name?
- what matters most - the honour, the flow, the length?
- would you consider a variant of [name_f]Susan[/name_f]? Something inspired by [name_f]Susan[/name_f] that flows better? [name_u]Or[/name_u] do you prefer direct honours?*
I’d suggest playing about with it - write it out as:
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] S-th
and
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] S-th
See which one appeals to you most over the next few days?
*something like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (meaning), [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sukie[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Suzie[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Suzette[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Suvi[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] (kind of lily)
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is such a beautiful name.
I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f], but I see what you mean about the flow. I think it’s the “s” sounds in [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] running into each other.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Lilian[/name_u]? The “lily” part shares the meaning of [name_f]Susan[/name_f], and the two names have the shared “an” ending too.
Such pretty names!
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a double first name. And I love the idea of also having a middle. (I have two middle names, and it’s never been an issue or hassle; I think it’s fantastic to have three names.) [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] is so classic and elegant! I love it.
Perhaps… [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f]? [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f]? [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f]? I also love these—but I don’t think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] has anything wrong with it, and I love the honor idea of using your mom’s name for a middle.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] sounds fine to me. You could also consider [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Susanna/h or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], as [name_f]Susan[/name_f] means [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] mother’s middle name is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and means ‘pearl’ and I would use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a middle to honour her.
So we have,
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Susanna/h
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Lily/Lillian/Lilliana
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely
I think without the hyphen I would interpret the name as [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as her first and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as her middle. Hyphenated first names are very common where I am and they all feature the actual hyphen which is how I distinguish that the name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] rather than just referring to her as [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] would make the name clearer and I like the nod to your mum. Maybe [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] would create a better flow? [name_u]Or[/name_u] alternatively using a ‘Lily’ name to honour your mum through that shared meaning something like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]? You could switch the names up have [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] I actually love [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] so much. However I actually think [name_f]Susan[/name_f] works nicely with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] she feels very classic and strong. If it was me I would have [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] then a nod to your mum in the middle name slot but either way you’re onto a winner.
Wishing you all the best
ive known a couple girls with double names like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and in both cases, the names were technically their first and middle names. but at least one of them said she wishes she had another name to be her true “middle name” because she sees her double name as her first name. so I don’t think it’s weird at all to have [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] be her first name(s) and choose another name (possibly an honor, like you’re considering) as a middle!
I agree with many of the previous posters ……
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] has a much flow and would make a beautiful name. It has the classic 2-1-3 syllable arrangement which always is pleasing.
