2 weeks old, need some help here.

[name_f]My[/name_f] boy is 2 weeks old and still has no name. I am getting a little too comfortable calling him “new baby” and could use some help. We have been recycling the same few names but none are sticking so we’re back to the drawing board.

Our last name is [name_m]Smith[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes:
Rutteger (I would call him [name_u]Rudy[/name_u])
[name_m]Marvin[/name_m] (there is no fixing this one)

I like:
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] -[name_u]Ollie[/name_u] (husband thinks it sounds wimpy)
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (we have a dog named [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] but I love this name)
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] (husband’s deceased dad’s name, just feels weird calling our baby by his name)

Basically my husband wants a good manly warrior name (I don’t see how [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] fits this description), and I want something classic.

Any ideas??

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote would go to [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. There is a big family connection and I think the strangeness of calling your baby by your father-in-law’s name would fade quickly.

I love both [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I feel [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is out, with you having a dog named [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I like that [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a family name.

suggestions (adventurous boys, at least to me) -

[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
[name_m]Boone[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
[name_m]Montgomery[/name_m]
[name_m]Knox[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Bridger[/name_m]
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
[name_m]Fisher[/name_m]
[name_m]Bowman[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Everest[/name_u]
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]

Hm, here’s what I think of in terms of a middle ground between strong and classic names:

[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] or [name_u]Elias[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m])
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] or [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] or [name_u]Emery[/name_u]
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Easton[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Ian[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] or [name_m]Xander[/name_m] or [name_m]Zander[/name_m]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] or [name_m]Evander[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Vander[/name_m] which is cute yet strong!)
[name_m]Ryder[/name_m]
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Russ[/name_m], Rust, [name_m]Rusty[/name_m])
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Dash[/name_u]! But probably a little too flashy for your SO)

In terms of things mildly similar to [name_u]Charlie[/name_u],
[name_m]Cooper[/name_m]
[name_u]Cade[/name_u]
[name_m]Colton[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Connor[/name_m]
Copely
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_u]Chase[/name_u]

None of those are really super manly “warrior” names and with the last name [name_m]Smith[/name_m] you don’t want your son to blend into the crowd. There is a happy medium.

Hopefully these will help:

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ? [name_m]Martin[/name_m]'s etymology is derived from [name_m]Mars[/name_m], the god of warriors … And it’s close enough to [name_m]Marvin[/name_m], but … not [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] !

I like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about;

[name_u]Shane[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Zeke[/name_m]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m]

Not all my suggestions are classic, but I think a solid last name like [name_m]Smith[/name_m] can handle an adventurous first name.

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_u]Corbin[/name_u]
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_u]Tiernan[/name_u]
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m]… alternative to [name_m]Marvin[/name_m]?
[name_m]Quinton[/name_m]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case you don’t know, [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is equally a girls name now, so I wouldn’t go that route since it is likely that in the next year or two there may be more girls than boys named [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
