My top five names for each, I have the 2013 ranking listed first and the 2014 listed second:
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]: 191-183, I’m neutral on this. Keeping my eye on her though. I’m glad she didn’t jump too much
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]: 69-67, I would prefer it if she were a bit more uncommon but small strides are better than big ones
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]: 484-482, very happy this didn’t jump really at all
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]: 253-245, another small jumper. I’m pretty happy with this
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]: 158-151, I’m also keeping my eye on her too
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]: 112-97, NO! He made it to the top 100! Ruined my day, honestly (okay not really but I was fuming when I checked in Chemistry at school today).
[name_u]August[/name_u]: 319-242, I didn’t look at him at school today. I’m glad I didn’t because I might have screamed. No, go back down!
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]: 247-218, God, please stop jumping boys’ names! Take a lesson from the girls!
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]: 86-81, keeping my eye on him too.
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]: 351-303, still uncommon but he needs to stay there.
Sadly all my favorites jumped up. I’m happy that [name_m]Torin[/name_m] is still off the list.

Are you disappointed or excited about any of the changes?
I am a little sad about [name_f]Jane[/name_f] moving up. Part of its charm for me is that it’s not frequently used as a first name anymore, but it’s still so familiar.
I was so surprised (and also happy) that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] didn’t jump more!
I’m probably being really stupid but I can’t find the list! All I can get to is the top 10, not entirely helpful. Please could somebody post me a link? Thank you!
It’s ok fellow berries! I’ve sorted myself and can confirm that yes, I was being an idiot. I’ve found it.
Might have helped if you linked to the list because I want to do this but can’t find the list anywhere
Right…finally got it. Here goes.
My favourite girls name Sienna has moved up by three spaces but is still out of the top 250 so thats not a problem for me. Clara however has moved up quite a bit from 131 to 108, nearly in the top 100! Even Eden has just missed the top 150. From 110 to 99 Hadley has now entered the top 100 which isn’t a huge suprise. So pleased that Octavia, Cleo, Linnea and and Rhianwen are nowhere to be seen on the list
Harrison has gotten very popular for boys moving up from 162 to 127. I love this name so much but can clearly see its growing in popularity! Cohen as moved up but still well under 300, and Everett is close to the top 150.
I’m glad that none of my favourites are too high up on the list…Hadley is the only one in the top 100 (only just, at 99) and I don’t think it’s a name I would actually use anyway. Pleased that many of my favourites aren’t in the top 1000
Girls First Names
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]: 716 - 627, pretty low down the list which I like, what I don’t like is that it’s climbed nearly 100 places in the last year, hopefully the increase will drastically slow down from now. ([name_f]Edie[/name_f]: not in top 1000. I guess that’s something)
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]: 894 - 924, already low on the list and getting lower, exactly what I like to see. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever use it, I’m a nickname kind of girl and this just has no good options!
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]: 807 -731, similar to [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. At the moment it’s still in the safe ‘not very popular’ zone. ([name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]: not in top 1000. Not sure if I prefer this to [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or not but it’s very uncommon and I love the nickname option of [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (not in top 1000 in 2013, but now at 776 - major rise!). [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] would still be my favourite nickname for both though and that is not in the top 1000 either)
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]: 471 - 420, will need to keep an eye on this one. I actually prefer the spelling [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] and that’s not in the top 1000, but to me the popularity of the sound is more important than the spelling. ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f]: 946 -947, nice and low! I prefer the nn [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f] though and this is not in the top 1000, bingo)
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]: 146 - 78, uh oh! Not a fan of the popularity of this, 146 is already quite high for my liking but the drastic climb and the fact it’s broken the top 100 is really frustrating. I might need to scrap this one from my list, even though I do love it. (I also like [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] which isn’t in the top 1000 so maybe that’s the way to go but my DH doesn’t seem to like it. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] would be my chosen nickname but that’s even higher on the list, climbing from 82 to 49. Looks like I’ll be saying goodbye to this beauty)
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]: not in the top 1000. I love that this is still off the popularity list. However, I’m back and forth about this name. I love the sound of it but I think it might be a bit ‘much’ for me to name my actual child. The popularity of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] does make [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] more usable though.
Girls Middle Names - I’m not that bothered about how popular my middle names are so I’ll just put their rankings.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]: 27 -27
[name_f]Maud[/name_f]: not in top 1000.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]: 647 - 583
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]: not in top 1000.
[name_f]Selah[/name_f]: 541 -545
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]: 673 -629
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]: not in top 1000.
Boys First Names
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]: 438 - 438, well it’s stayed the same. That’s a good thing. I’d be happy if it stayed around this position. Not too popular but well known.
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]: 116 - 137, the first name on my list to have a decrease in popularity. I was really unaware of how popular this name was but at least it’s not climbing. I imagine it will next year though, all the berries seem to be loving it now and with [name_m]Justin[/name_m] Timberlake naming his son this it’s bound to become quite popular.
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]: 11 - 11, staying the same, good thing for [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], bad for [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. Possibly my favourite name, why does it have to be so popular!? I’m glad to see it hasn’t broken the top 10 though. ([name_m]Eli[/name_m]: 43 - 49, at least my favourite nickname is trying to break out of the top 50)
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]: 145 - 160, fairly high on the list but trending downward. This is another name I din’t think was that popular.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]: 169 - 126, why are all my boys names climbing? It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing for my girls names but my boys names are already higher on the list, so them climbing is really annoying. Going to have to watch this one, I can definitely imagine it cracing the top 100 in a few years time. ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]: 665 - 509, even the nickname is having a rapid climb! Thankfully I prefer [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_m]Ted[/name_m] and neither of them are in the top 1000)
[name_m]Percival[/name_m]: not in the top 1000! Finally a boys name I like that’s not on the list. Neither is the nickname [name_u]Percy[/name_u], bonus. Sadly, like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], I think it might be a bit too much for an actual child.
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]: 677 - 539, fairly low, but climbing. I definitely think this is one too watch. I can see it flying into the top 100 in a few years time. I’ll keep my figers crossed that I’m wrong!
Boys Middle Names
[name_u]James[/name_u]: 13 - 9
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]: 161 -162
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]: 29 - 31
[name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m]: 882 - 774
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]: 797 - 731
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]: not in top 1000
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]: 231 - 250
So I’ve just spent a very long time doing this, it was fun but quite pointless as I live in the UK and our rankings are very different to the US ones, sadly we don’t have such an extensive list though. For example, I know for sure [name_f]Florence[/name_f] will be fairly high in the UK (I’d be surprised if it was any lower than top 200), same for [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], I’d actually place [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] up in the top 50 somewhere.
A lot of my favorite names moved up for girls: [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f]…I pretty much knew they would but I was surprised to see [name_f]Cora[/name_f] did not crack the top 100 but it was close.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] moved down. I was so shocked [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] dropped 12 places. I was sure she had moved up to at least the 160s. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is my favorite so you can imagine the happy dance I did when I saw she had dropped in popularity.
For boys pretty much everybody moved up including [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. The only ones that didn’t rise (but didn’t fall either were [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
Nothing I really loved entered or exited the top 1000. Overall I was disappointed that all my boys names are becoming so popular but pleased to see that some of my favorite girls names are not climbing as rapidly as others so I can’t complain. Now watch me have all boys and never get to use those less popular girls names
I have HUGE lists, so I’m just using the names in my signature…
The Ladies
[name_f]Elza[/name_f] - not in Top 1000. Was used 22 times in 2014, compared to 12 times in 2013.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - not in Top 1000. Used just once more in 2014 (127) than it was in 2013.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] - not in Top 1000. Was used 144 times in 2014, compared to 115 times in 2013.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - this didn’t move, it stayed at #120.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - climbed 31 places, from #225 up to #194
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] - fell 2 places, from #48 to #50
And the middle names…
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - climbed 13 places, #160 to #147
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] - fell 19 places, from #522 to #541
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] - fell 43 places, from #532 to 575
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] - not in Top 1000. Used 12 times in 2014, compared to 7 times in 2013.
[name_f]Christabel[/name_f] - not in Top 1000. Used 36 times in 2104, compared to 28 times in 2013.
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] - climbed 11 places, from #180 to #169.
The Gentleman
[name_m]Asher[/name_m] - climbed 11 places, from #104 to #93
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - stayed at #24, a position it has been at since 2011
[name_u]James[/name_u] - climbed 4 places, from #13 to #9
[name_m]John[/name_m] - climbed 1 place, from #27 to #26
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] - stayed at #1
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - climbed 2 places, from #25 to #23
And the middles…
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m] - not in Top 1000. Used 137 times in 2014, compared to 108 times in 2013.
[name_u]August[/name_u] - climbed 77 places, from #319 to #242
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - climbed 87 places, from #793 to #706
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u] - not in Top 100. Used 110 times in 2014, compared to 95 times in 2013.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - stayed at #8
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m] - climbed 53 places, from #993 to #880.
Summary:
Only one of my girl first names fell, which was [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], but only a couple of places. And despite dropping a coupe of places, it was used a handful of times more than it was in 2013, so the drop isn’t significant.
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] (middle names) both fell, no surprised.
Apart from these, every other single name went up or stayed in the same position, OR in the case of those names outside the Top 1000 were used on more occasions than they had been the previous year.
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]: 82-49. Such a big jump, almost in the top 50! I predict it’ll only get more popular.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]: Not in the top 1000.
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]: 979-906. I’m happy with that.
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]: 195-182. Slowly climbing, I think it will get more popular in the next few years but hopefully won’t enter the top 50.
I wonder how popular my favourites are in Australia. Over here names like [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], and [name_u]Luca[/name_u], are all in the top 50 but don’t seem to be as popular in the States.
I’ll do top 5:
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m] - 959 to 801, so a big jump!
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] - 116 to 97
[name_m]Darius[/name_m] - 343 to 325
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] - 454 to 397
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - 297 to 239
I’m surprised [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is higher than [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! But I got that info on name berry so I’m not sure of its accuracy
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - 833 to 832, lol
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - surprisingly, not in the top 1000 on social security? But [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] is! That’s surprising. 377 to 369 on nameberry
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] - 1027 to 801, a huge jump
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - over 1000 to 993
I’ll just talk about my top ten:
Which of your girl names moved up on the list? [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (ugh no! 32 rank jump ), [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] (only jumped 10 spots so that’s fine), [name_f]Margo[/name_f] does not rank but the more popular spelling [name_f]Margot[/name_f] jumped to rank 749!
Which of your girl names moved down? [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] (and her more popular variant spelling, [name_f]Zoey[/name_f]) both moved down the list! [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was only one spot I’m still happy, [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (dropped 8 spots).
Which of your boy names moved up on the list? [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] (144 spots! oh no!), [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (only 7 spots though), [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (only 2 spots), & [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (29 spots!)
Which of your boy names moved down? [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (only one spot but still it dropped), [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] (15 spots!),
Did any of your names enter the top 1000 for the first time? If so, which ones? [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]! I was really surprised, I thought she’d remain a Greek secret forever (I think the Inception character association is finally kicking in) & [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] (not sure why? Maybe some TV character/movie or something).
Did any of your names leave the top 100? If so, which ones? Nope, I wish. Some of the names on my list entered the top 100 (like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], & [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I knew it was coming but ugh).
Which one of your girl names moved up the most? From my top 10, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] jumped the most with an increase of 32 spots. Unless you count [name_f]Margo[/name_f]'s friend [name_f]Margot[/name_f], which jumped 200 places (oh no!).
Which one of your girl names moved down the most? [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] dropped 8 spots. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] dropped 4. Not to big of a difference though.
Which one of your boy names moved up the most? [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. I blame The Fault in Our Stars
Which one of your boy names moved down the most? Out of my top 10, [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] fell the most, but from the rest of my list, [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] dropped 19 spots (unsurprisingly.)
Are you disappointed or excited about any of the changes? It’s bittersweet. I’m happy to see some of my favorites, like [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], & [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] being used. But I don’t want them to become popular. I’m a little sad to see some of my not top ten names, like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], enter the top 100, but I’d much rather see them used over some of the other popular names (ex [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]). I’m happy to see some love for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], which I can’t use. Same with [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]! She’s a fast riser. And [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. Saw some awesome names entering the top 1000.
I’m happy that [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Marta[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], & [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], & [name_m]Basil[/name_m] stay out of the top 1000! Some of my favorites have not reached the mainstream yet!
All of my girl names moved up on the list. The biggest jumps being [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (up 322), [name_f]Margot[/name_f] (up 200) and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] (up 143). None of my girl names moved down on the list but [name_f]Etta[/name_f] and [name_f]Maude[/name_f] remain outside the top 1000. I don’t see [name_f]Maude[/name_f] entering, but [name_f]Etta[/name_f] maybe if it does I don’t think it’ll move from the 900’s.
Surprisingly the biggest jump for my boy names was [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (up 29). I’m not surprised by [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (up 20). I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] will be in the top 10 in a few years. I’m a little sad about [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (up 17), but it’s still in the 300’s and I don’t think it’ll ever be in the top 100. I was surprised to see [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] beside each other. Two of my boy names went down, both by 5. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. I’m not surprised.
I was surprised and kind of excited to see [name_m]Anakin[/name_m] enter the top 1000. I was also surprised to see [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]. I wasn’t surprised to see [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] enter the top 1000.
I think next year, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] will have both gone down.
Our top 2 choices if this baby is a girl aren’t even on the list, which is a relief. Our third choice is (or was maybe) [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], which broke the top 100 this year. Jumped from 119 to 98. Our middle name for a girl currently ranks in the middle 900s, but it’s a family name so it would be used regardless.
We’re having such trouble with boys names I don’t even know what to look at, but I’ll post the data for my two favorites and some of the names that have been thrown around.
[name_u]August[/name_u] - jumped from 319 to 242, but still safe for now [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] (544) or [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] (949) are even safer.
[name_u]Loren[/name_u] - not in the top 1000
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] - jumped from 112 to 97… makes me nervous but I’m not as picky about popularity of boys’ names.
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - jumped from 244 to 233
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] - jumped from 189 to 167, still okay.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - jumped from 421 to 380
[name_m]Absalom[/name_m] - not in the top 1000
Our middle name choice for a boy doesn’t rank in the top 1000 either, but again is a family name so we would use it regardless of popularity.

[name_m]Cole[/name_m]: #114 - #116
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]: #281 - #284
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]: not in the Top 1000
Are you disappointed or excited about any of the changes?
I’m bummed by how much movement a lot of my favorite girl names showed; it makes me nervous for even bigger jumps in the next few years. I had no idea how unpopular some of my favorite boy names are, which was a pleasant surprise.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]: 17-15; I’m more afraid that it’s going to sound dated by the time I have kids.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]: 240-230
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]: 131-108; so close to top 100!
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]: 387-393; [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is outside top 1000, but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is 14, so…
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]: 203-224; I’m actually glad this is being used more!
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]: Not in the top 1000, which kinda surprised me, since all the variations on the list are in the top 200…
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]:Not in the top 1000, but [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is at 67
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]:295-255; [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] at 258
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]: 354-322
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]: 323-306; [name_f]Happy[/name_f] to see this one rise, as someone told me it wasn’t ready for a comeback.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]:206-204
[name_m]William[/name_m] 5-5; [name_u]Billy[/name_u] is at 794, so I feel safe.
[name_u]River[/name_u]: 371-287; That’s a pretty big jump!
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]: 505-478; [name_m]Frank[/name_m] is 336 and [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] at 453.
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]: 47-47
I mean, I’m not having kids for a decade, so the popularity of some of these doesn’t bother me that much? I do hope [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] drops to the mid-20s, though.
My name is 21 this year!
I haven’t fully seen the list yet, but I do know that I’m quite a bit upset that [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is in the top 1000 now along with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]!! And that [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f] moved up aswell. I’m sure there are a few others I just don’t know of them right now…
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]: 37-33. This doesn’t surprise me. Makes me slightly bummed, of course, but there really isn’t much difference between the two numbers.
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]: 23-19. Hub’s choice. Again, I am not surprised in the least. It’s not like I didn’t see it coming.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]: 45-34. That’s a larger leap than I would have expected! I blame the show [name_u]Reign[/name_u]. I guess there is no way for me to opt for Bash now instead of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] on grounds of popularity…
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]: 189-167.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]: 132-122. The only thing I have to say about this is that I’m happy the “correct” spelling is rising. -_-
[name_f]Elaina[/name_f]: 310-281. [name_u]BOO[/name_u] HISS.
[name_f]Alaina[/name_f]: 181-190. That makes me feel a marginal bit better.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]: 993. Boooo, she arrived.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: 10-14. She went down a few pegs, but I think with something as omni-popular over the entire course of time as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], that doesn’t mean much. It wouldn’t mean much if she rose either.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]: 131-108. NO NO NO. Pardon me as I shout and scream and stomp.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]: 238-258. Oooh, this makes me feel better! <3
Beatrice (since Beatrix isn’t there): 586-601. I would have expected it to rise due to Divergent. Hm.
I am disappointed in Clara’s rise, like, a lot. I am actually surprised that Juliet fell by as much as she did. Ditto Beatrice. I also didn’t realize how popular Sebastian was and is continuing to be. I would have loved to see Henry fall a bit, but I knew that was wishful thinking.
2013 -2014

[name_f]Grace[/name_f]: 22-21
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: 4-4

[name_f]Helene[/name_f]: outside the top 1000
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m]: 26-30

[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]: 10-10
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]: 142-119

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]: 323-306
[name_m]William[/name_m]: 5-5
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]: 91-94
I don’t care at all about the popularity and nothing here bothers me at all, but I like to see the changes on the list!
