2nd boy - need advice!

My husband and I are expecting our second son this summer. Our firstborn is F!nn M!chael. We are having some trouble coming up with a name for #2. Here’s where we stand:

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] - this was our second favorite the first time around. We still like it but hubby is a little unsure.

[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name but hubby has basically vetoed. [name_m]Just[/name_m] throwing it out here so you’ll know my style.

[name_m]Declan[/name_m] - we both like it but my husband’s coworker has a [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m]. We don’t want to appear like we’re copying them ha!

[name_m]Cillian[/name_m] - husband likes it more than me… Iffy about the “kill” first syllable and people saying “sill”.

We like [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Sean[/name_m] or [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] for a middle name. Our last name is very Irish so we tend to lean that way, but it doesn’t have to be Irish as long as it it goes with firstborn’s name.

Suggestions? Advice? Likes? Dislikes? Thanks!

[name_m]Damian[/name_m]- not my favorite
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]- I really like, shame husband won’t be persuaded.
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]- is nice. [name_m]How[/name_m] close of coworkers are they? Is it a job where they will they be coworkers forever? [name_m]Will[/name_m] the kids know each other? Because I think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] pairs really nicely with [name_u]Finn[/name_u].
[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]- I totally agree with you. I don’t like the “kill” part. And you’re sure to get the [name_m]Sil[/name_m] pronunciation a lot.

Suggestions:

[name_m]Kellen[/name_m]- really similar to [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] but without the above problems.
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]

My favourite both on its own and with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. Could you be persuaded to mve it to the fn slot?

I second pps [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]. [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]? I’ll also suggest [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

I like

[name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Sean[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]

Of course you can mix and match

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] would be great!

I love [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. It’s a wonderful name and goes great with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] would be my second choice.

I love the name [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Some names I like with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]:

[name_u]Finn[/name_u]

[name_m]Graeme[/name_m]/[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Niall[/name_u]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Brice[/name_u]
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Brecken[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_m]Braxton[/name_m]
[name_m]Conall[/name_m]
[name_m]Conlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Keane[/name_m]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]
[name_m]Clay[/name_m]
[name_m]Burke[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u]

I love the name [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] for a boy, and I think it goes well with your son’s name. I think of your ideas, [name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] or [name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] are very nice. I agree with you that while [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] is nice in theory, I wouldn’t want the word “kill” in my son’s name. This may not be a widespread association, I don’t know, but I can’t get over the pop culture associations [name_m]Damian[/name_m] has as the little by in The Omen.
Have you thought about [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] as a first name? The NameSage suggested Patch to me as a nickname which I thought was very cute. I also think Trick is a cute nickname.

Some other names that might go well with your son’s name/your name preferences are
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m] - Irish with a cute nickname - [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Cashel[/name_m] - [name_m]Cash[/name_m]/[name_m]Cas[/name_m]
[name_m]Colm[/name_m] - I know this one is super popular in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and goes well with your son’s handsome, one syllable name
Connall
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_m]Keir[/name_m]/[name_m]Keiran[/name_m]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] (pretty popular but goes well with [name_u]Finn[/name_u])
[name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] - (nms but may be yours and is close to [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m])
[name_u]Niall[/name_u] - I am 28 so I kind of missed the one direction trend, don’t know how much this is associated with that
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - for either of these [name_f]Roe[/name_f] is a cute nickname
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Raffy[/name_m] could be cute
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]

Good luck! Let us know what you choose!

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and advice.

We can’t use [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] for a first name because it’s already taken by a close first cousin.

I think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_m]Damian[/name_m] are our top contenders still…

I love [name_m]Damian[/name_m], but not my favorite with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m] works a little better with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] I feel. [name_m]How[/name_m] about

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Conall[/name_m]
[name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]/[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
[name_m]Gannon[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]

[name_m]Conall[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is my fave combo! Good luck!

If your torn between [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m], I think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] goes much better with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Perfect pair really! I would not worry about your husbands co-worker at all or what people would think. Your husband could change jobs, and then you would wonder why you even considered his co workers. You need to pick the name YOU love and they are not family (or even best friends from what it sounds). That being said, I really like the name [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and so if you really [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_m]Damien[/name_m] more than [name_m]Declan[/name_m], go for [name_m]Damien[/name_m] – loving the name is most important in my opinion and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] go fine together – not a total mismatch!

I too love [name_m]Conall[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]!! My son’s name is [name_m]Conall[/name_m] – we discovered the name in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] where it is pretty common. It has a great history and meaning. And I think it is both a cute and very strong adult name. I also like that it is very different here in the U.S. but not weird or hard to pronounce. But obviously I’m biased:-)
