Our first daughters name is [name]Harlow[/name].
Here are a few names I am considering for our daughter who is due in a few weeks. When you reply with the one you like, try to include a middle name if you can!
[name]Elliot[/name] - this feels a little unisex with the softer [name]Harlow[/name].
[name]Nahla[/name] - such a pretty name, and it is perfect next to [name]Harlow[/name], in my opinion!
[name]Lola[/name] - this is such a sweet name, but I don’t like that it shares the same sound as [name]Harlow[/name] -low …
[name]Olive[/name] - a nice name, I think that this goes quite well with [name]Harlow[/name].
[name]Nefertiti[/name] - wow! What a brilliant, unusual name! But I feel it may be a bit too unusual with [name]Harlow[/name].
[name]Alabama[/name] - as this is also a name which has been used by a celebrity, I would steer clear of it lest people think you are copying them!
[name]Leni[/name] - quite nice, but it feels like a nn. Also, is it pronounced lee-nee or like [name]Lenny[/name]?
[name]Nahla[/name] is my first choice, with [name]Olive[/name] in second place. [name]Paloma[/name] (or another alternative) nn [name]Lola[/name] would also be a great choice.
I really dislike [name]Nahla[/name] - it sounds too try hard. Like you really want to show the world just how "creative’ you are. And [name]Lola[/name] is short for [name]Lolita[/name] (the slutty teenager in the famous novel), not to mention an up and coming super name. I like [name]Leni[/name].
Please don’t use [name]Nahla[/name] - [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name] used [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Halle[/name] [name]Berry[/name] used [name]Nahla[/name]. I know that doesn’t mean the names belong to them but I think using two names of predominent celebritiy babies will bring negative attention to your childrens names. People will clearly just think you are celebrity name obsessed and it kind of detracts from your own creativity.
[name]Leni[/name] is also [name]Heidi[/name] Klum’s daughter and as someone else mentioned [name]Alabama[/name] is a celeb baby name.
Also curious like another poster, what is [name]Harlow[/name]'s middlename?
[name]Lola[/name] is actually short for [name]Dolores[/name], but of course it can be used as a nn for other names, such as [name]Paloma[/name] or perhaps [name]Louisa[/name]. [name]Madonna[/name] apparently uses it for her daughter, [name]Lourdes[/name]. [name]Lolita[/name] is a Spanish dimuntive of [name]Lola[/name], meaning it roughly translates as ‘little [name]Lola[/name]’ - adding ito/a to the end of children’s names is common in Latin [name]America[/name] and Spain.
Oh, I didn’t know that [name]Nahla[/name] had also been used by a celebrity. As much as I love it, that changes my vote somewhat - [name]Olive[/name] [name]Nahla[/name], perhaps? Or [name]Paloma[/name] [name]Nahla[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] (such a pretty combination, in my opinion).
Others mentioned that perhaps with [name]Harlow[/name] you should stay away from other hollwood starbaby names, and I agree. that being said not only are [name]Nahla[/name] and [name]Leni[/name] star baby names, but [name]Olive[/name] is [name]Isla[/name] [name]Fisher[/name] and [name]Sacha[/name] [name]Baron[/name] [name]Cohen[/name] daugher, [name]Alabama[/name] is the daughter of [name]Travis[/name] [name]Barker[/name] (Blink 192) and [name]Lola[/name] is often used in hollywood.
Other names I think would go well with [name]Harlow[/name] are
[name]Clio[/name]
[name]India[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Aster[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Olive[/name], hands down. I love how it is classic and think it ensures your names don’t sound too trendy or celebrity-obsessed. I love [name]Harlow[/name] by the way! Does it mean something like “meadow of the hare”? (definition of [name]Harley[/name]) If that’s the case [name]Olive[/name] matches in a sort of floral, nature way. Good luck!!
Perhaps its because [name]Ive[/name] had a long day, but it angers me when all the names I like, happen to be linked to some celebrity somewhere. Im finding it very difficult to justify not using a name I love because some rich person has a child named that. [name]Jack[/name] is EXTREMELY popular, but that doesnt stop people from using it, or what about the HIGHLY overused [name]Olivia[/name]? Pretty name but everyone has a kid named [name]Olivia[/name] now. If I am getting the hint, what you are saying is I should choose a name I love less, to avoid being refered to as celeb crazy? That notion to me seems crazy. 10 years from now when our daughters are in school, no one is going to remember [name]Halle[/name] [name]Berry[/name]'s child, or [name]Heidi[/name] Klum for that matter, but I will remember how much I love my childs name, and how it makes them unique in my eyes. I do NOT want to remember how I was “scared” to use a name which belongs to no one, only because some celeb named their child the same name.
While I think it is important to ultimately pick the name that you like the most, I do think that with [name]Harlow[/name] already being associated almost solely with a celebrity’s child, you might want to avoid choosing a name, such as [name]Nahla[/name], which is very unusual and also associated with a celebrity’s child. I imagine you would get fed up of people assuming that you are celebrity-obsessed. However, I don’t think that [name]Lola[/name] or [name]Olive[/name] are out because they have been used by celebrities, as they are both in fairly wide use by the population at large.
honestly, choose the name you [name]LOVE[/name]. regardless of celebrity association. we named our DS beckett. literally 9 out of 10 people we tell his name to ask us if we named him for david [name]BECKham[/name]. seriously?? beckett is not associated with celebrity babies (at least not in my opinion) but apparently it is linked to david beckham.
i love my son’s name regardless. even if people do think i named him because/for a celebrity. you just have to ignore the ignorant comments =)
I love a lot of your choices. [name]Nefertiti[/name] isn’t my style, but I appreciate its uniqueness. The others I think go perfectly with [name]Harlow[/name].
My favorites are:
[name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Olive[/name]
[name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Alabama[/name]
[name]Just[/name] because a celebrity named their child that doesn’t mean you can’t use it. I say go for a name you love no matter what!
I agree that you shouldn’t be frightened off from a name just because some celebrity has used it. Their kids aren’t likely to be famous so who cares? Unless you want to name your kids [name]Dweezil[/name] and [name]Moon[/name] Unit ([name]Frank[/name] Zappa’s kids) - and then I would have to draw the line!
[name]Elliot[/name] - I can’t get behind [name]Elliot[/name] on a girl but I love it as a boy’s name.
[name]Nahla[/name] - I think this one pairs well with [name]Harlow[/name] in terms of it’s unusual quality and pretty sound. If you really like it, I say go with it
[name]Lola[/name] - I’m not sure how I feel about [name]Lola[/name]. For some reason it doesn’t seem to go well with [name]Harlow[/name] for me. It must be the repeated -lo sound, as a previous poster suggested
[name]Olive[/name] - I quite like [name]Olive[/name]. It sounds well with [name]Harlow[/name] although I’m not sure if it’s as unusual so [name]Olive[/name] might feel a bit slighted about that in the future.
[name]Nefertiti[/name] - [name]Nefertiti[/name] is awesome but it’s a lot of name! I also don’t think it blends well with [name]Harlow[/name] (who might be jealous of her sister’s splashier name when she gets older). If you like the Ancient Egyptian association, why not some easier to pronounce place names from Ancient [name]Egypt[/name] for a similar vibe: Thebes, [name]Cairo[/name] (although maybe not with [name]Harlow[/name]), Nubia, [name]Memphis[/name], [name]Tanis[/name], Amarna (where [name]Nefertiti[/name] lived), etc.
[name]Alabama[/name] - I think [name]Alabama[/name] is a good choice that goes well with [name]Harlow[/name] in terms of its sound and its unusualness
[name]Leni[/name] - I’ve never heard of [name]Leni[/name] before. In my head I’m pronouncing it [name]Lay[/name]-nee, is that right? I think it goes well with [name]Harlow[/name] as well. It sounds a bit like the nn [name]Lainey[/name], so beware of mispellings and people assuming it’s short for [name]Elaine[/name].
So I think [name]Alabama[/name] and [name]Nahla[/name] would be my favorite picks for you with [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Leni[/name] coming in second
I’m not sure what you’re looking for in a middle name but I’m assuming something unusual. Here goes.
[name]Alabama[/name] [name]Isis[/name] (for more of that Ancient Egyptian feel)
[name]Alabama[/name] Ibis (for the Ancent Egyptian feel minus the famous goddess name)
[name]Nahla[/name] [name]Pomona[/name] (another beautiful woman of classical history, like [name]Nefertiti[/name], but [name]Paloma[/name] as a previous poster suggested, would work too)
[name]Alabama[/name] [name]Salome[/name]
[name]Alabama[/name] [name]Lotus[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] Amarna (sorry, still taken with my Egyptian city name idea)
[name]Leni[/name] [name]Alabama[/name]
[name]Leni[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Leni[/name] [name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Alabama[/name] Nephthys ([name]Isis[/name]’ sister)
and so on… Sorry, I’m recycling your names because you obviously like them. I also tried to look for ‘o’ and ‘l’ sounds because you seem to like those too.
I like [name]Alabama[/name] best actually. I wouldn’t use it myself just because I don’t think it would go well with our Hispanic last name, but I think it’s a very cute name. As others have said, a lot of the names that you like are the names of star babies. I don’t think that means you shouldn’t choose a name you love, but you should keep in mind that because they are, these names are likely to become more popular in coming years. If you’re okay with that, go for it.
