3 characters crying for help!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] :3

I’m writing a story with elements of the supernatural. It has a cast of partially named characters — I know a lot of writers only get around to putting solid names for all their inventions after a few drafts, but, being the name-obsessed [name_u]Berry[/name_u] I am, I can’t help getting into it earlier!

My protagonist is a pretty rough-and-tough sort of man, who could be likened to being a veteran (he is, but not in the usual way). The name I used to have for him was [name_u]Loki[/name_u], but given how popular the Avengers version of [name_u]Loki[/name_u] has gotten, I’m wary about using that, and am veering towards a name such as [name_m]Roarke[/name_m]. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I’d like a name in the vein of
[name_m]Roarke[/name_m] , or
Godric
This isn’t a [name_m]Chad[/name_m] / [name_u]Tony[/name_u] / [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] type of guy. Also considering names that mean “fire”, or “hunter”.

One of the other characters is a hedonistic gentleman called [name_m]Charles[/name_m] P (good guy), and I’m looking for a middle name to go with that. Something classical, or “vintage”. I was thinking along the lines of
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
but those combinations are pretty boring. Maybe some middle names which mean “lord”, or “shadow”?

My main damage is with a girl who insofar has had about ten names over different periods of time. The ones that lasted the longest are
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]
Which one is more appealing to you? Middle name suggestions for either? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a similar name you think could work?
She is roughly eighteen, and most of her possessions are antiques. She’s relatively smart and brave, but very judgemental and defensive. Given that, does anything spring to mind? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] even work for that?

I have LOVED [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] since I read [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Wilde’s play, The Importance of Being [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] in high school. I say use it!

For a mn, how about [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] or [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]?

What were her parents like? Why did they pick her name? If you can get into her parent’s heads then you can figure out a logical mn.

Like for one of my MCs, her mom was really poor and stuck in a bad living situation. She wanted her daughter to have a better life and grow up to be somebody. She named her after a female doctor who embodied all the qualities she hoped her daughter would have. Then she picked a random mn that she thought sounded pretty with the fn.

I agree that [name_u]Loki[/name_u] is too popular now to use, but I love [name_m]Roark[/name_m]. Grr! Lol [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is another name that might work for him.

As for [name_m]Charles[/name_m]…
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]

I also like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] jarekare! Good call keeping [name_u]Loki[/name_u] out of the draft. I can only imagine the backlash. :stuck_out_tongue:

For the protagonist, you could try a few middle/old English-sounding options:
[name_u]Auberon[/name_u]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Anselm[/name_m]
[name_m]Theron[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]

For the middle name of the gentleman, you could go with some long and/or snooty choices such as:
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Eldridge[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Bayard[/name_m]

As for the troublesome female…(I like the way you described her by the way, she sounds like someone I would definitely read about) I would go with something strong. Either that, or a feminine name with a short, punchy nickname. And if you want to keep [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u], you could have her go by her nickname. Or possibly she changes her name to suit her mood.

Similar to [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]/[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]:
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]

For middle names:
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]

Unfortunately, most of the middle names I put behind [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] sound like a paint color.
