3 days past due date and can't pick a name! help!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!

So I am 3 days past my due date with my first child, a baby girl. I always thought I’d know the perfect name, but I keep changing my mind! I am trying to honor my father or grandmother who have both passed away, with either of their first initials, which are E and M. The only E name I like is [name_u]Eden[/name_u], however hubby doesn’t love it, but said at the end of the day if I love a name, I can have it. Would you use a name you know your husband was agreeing to just to make you happy? Then for M names, we have [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Makenna[/name_f], and [name_f]Mariah[/name_f].

For the past couple months we have been calling her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. Nothing longer, just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. We don’t like any of the long versions of the name. I love that it means “pearl,” and that we just feel like it’s a name that she could be either girly or a tomboy, but sounds like a fun, likeable girl.

With [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] I love that it means “happy one,” but I’m wonder if the whole “Mck/Mak” ship has sailed and it’s too overdone?

With [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], I have always thought it was a beautiful sounding name. One of the meanings I found meant “wished-for child,” and this baby took us a lot of effort and struggle to conceive, so it is suiting. Growing up on old-school [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u] music, I used to love her, but these days the association with her doesn’t tickle me. But I feel once people saw a sweet little girl named [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], they’d forget about it.

So please tell me what order you like these names in, why you like them or don’t like them, and please help fast! Contractions have started! Thank you!

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_f]Makenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
???

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t stress too much over it. I’m sure that once you meet your baby, you’ll know which name suits her best. When I had my son, I had my mind set on another name entirely. His entire bedroom and acessories had been embroidered with the name, but upon meeting him, I knew I had it all wrong. I’ll be honest with you, [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] is my least favorite name on your list, but that doesn’t matter at all, I’m across the ocean from you. [name_m]Just[/name_m] follow your heart and choose the perfect name for you and your baby.

I wish you all the best in the world and a safe and pleasant delivery!

My order:
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariah[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Makenna[/name_f]

Side note: [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] also means “wished for child” and it starts with an E, so fitting for your criteria.

Like the other contributer, I think you’ll know when you see her. I think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is sweet. I know what you mean about choosing a name your husband is enthusiastic about. I’m due in a week and have been told by mine that I can have the final say but I want him to like it too. And you don’t sound as enthusiastic about [name_u]Eden[/name_u] as you do your other names.

I like: [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], then [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], then [name_f]Makenna[/name_f], but any of them are pretty names. Good luck!

I think if you’ve been calling her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], then it must feel right  I also like [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. Or how about [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], or [name_u]Everly[/name_u]?

I have a feeling you will see that little face and get to hold her and you will have one of those names stand out above the others. If you don’t mind my saying, it would make me very nervous to name the baby after a name my husband didn’t like. You don’t want him to dislike it whenever he says it. However, I do think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] would be a beautiful middle name for any of the choices you have.

I like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] but mostly for a nickname. It works as a full name when she’s little, but when she grows up, she might want something without the “ie” on the end which tends to make a name more youthful. If you do like this name, I’d suggest a formal first and use it as a nickname.

[name_f]Makenna[/name_f] is lovely. I wouldn’t worry about the Mc/[name_m]Mac[/name_m] thing, I think it is bubbly and pretty at the same time. Also [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] sounds really lovely together.

I also love your choice [name_f]Mariah[/name_f]. Most people will not make the jump to [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u]. I, for one, make a jump to British literature like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] when the name was a classic. [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is also a beautiful combination.

Good luck to you momma! You’ll do great!

[name_u]Eden[/name_u] is a beautiful name. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is very cute, also, but I fear she will be answering the question “but what’s it short for?” for the rest of her life.

I understand your concern about your hubby not liking the name, but he may find that it grows on him once it is attached to a face, and not just an amorphous sound. Also, if he is happy for you to use it, then trust him and go for it.

I think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] or [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is the nicest combination

All are good names. I agree with previous posters that you’ll know which name is right when you see her and spend some time with her. If it helps, I know several adults who go by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and it suits them just fine. It doesn’t come off as juvenile at all on them. If you want to go with just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] I think it’s totally fine.

I agree with the other commenters that you will likely know what her name is when you finally meet her. Something will just feel “right.” That being said, I think [name_f]Makenna[/name_f] is an adorable name and while the [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u] association is tough to get away from, I did know a [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] in college and she was a lovely, kind and beautiful girl! And I never thought about the pop star when I was around her  Good luck!

Sharing your joy, @indecisicivemom!

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is my top recommendation for you.
