Dear hubby is set on the name Miette for our 2nd daughter, due in 3 days…I love this name, too, but am wondering how people will respond. In French it means “small and sweet” or literally “crumb.” I suppose it isn’t nice to name your daughter “crumb” but in a way I think it’s quite adorable too. Thoughts? Middle name will most likely be [name]Elora[/name]…but am open to other options!

Miette looks a little like [name]Mia[/name] to me which is a sweet name. Hopefully people will understand how to say it as Mee not My - ette. [name]Elora[/name] is pretty but it flows better as [name]Elora[/name] Miette.
You are so close : D! So exciting : D. I don’t think the meaning’s a problem very much at all. I do think it’s pretty. I think my one concern would be that it seems a little hard to grow into. It’s a little bit light-weight. Not knowing much french I’d guess it meant like “my little one” from [name]Mia[/name] + ette, which is very sweet, but hard to imagine past a certain age. There are other names out there that are harder to imagine growing, so don’t get me wrong. But [name]Elora[/name] Miette as pp suggested does sound like it would work on a grown woman as well as on a baby or girl. Best wishes whatever you decide!
The meaning doesn’t bother me, but I have to agree that Miette strikes me as a bit young and just a little bit cutesy. [name]Elora[/name] Miette, on the other hand, could work for a woman of any age and sounds really pretty. But if Miette is the name that you and your h love the most, then go for that and don’t worry about the ‘crumb’ thing. Very best of luck to you!
I think Miette [name]ELora[/name] is beautiful! It is not common but not strange. The only problem you might have is the pronuncation correction. Other than that I think you two have come up with an amazing name.
I think it’s lovely! I am bad with pronunciation but I still would say Mee-ette. I think the nn options of [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Etta[/name] will guide her through her older years if she thinks Miette is too “young” for her. But I think it would translate well from child to adult. And who wouldn’t want a Grammy Miette?

Miette is soooo cute! I think the “crumb” meaning is sweet also. Like pp said she has the more “american” option of [name]Mia[/name] and the vintage-cool [name]Etta[/name], too.
