So my husband and I have a short list that we both agree we like (to some degree)
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]: we love this one, but I’m turned off by its popularity
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f]: pronounced like [name_m]Diesel[/name_m] with an L. we love this name, but I’m afraid people would naturally pronounce it like the girl from The Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f], my husband hates it like that.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]: my husband likes this one more than I do, I am not sure why I don’t like it more…
As for a middle name, I want to honor my grandmother, her name was [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], I am not a big fan of either name, so maybe some help thinking of variations of them, but that isn’t too far from the original?
Or what about [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as a mn? I know it’s usually a male name nowadays. But I’ve known women named [name_f]Judith[/name_f] or [name_f]Judy[/name_f] who when by [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] sounds nice, so does [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. It’s funny cause I never thought I would see the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and the word “popular” together, but it is becoming more popular. I used to be a nanny for a little girl named [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], they called her [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (prounced ee-vee). But it’s not SUPER popular. I wouldn’t let it deter you too much.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]- Honestly, I think the popularity thing is fine, however, if it really bothers you, perhaps something like [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evadne[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]?
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f]- I automatically rhyme it with [name_m]Diesel[/name_m]. [name_m]How[/name_m] did they say it in the Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f]? From memory, it was this way too (lee-zuhl / lee-zell).
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]- [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a lovely name- NMS, but a good classic.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] ~ Popularity is an issue. Some similar names:
[name_f]Avalyn[/name_f]
Evelet
[name_f]Evaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f] ~ I don’t think the pronunciation issue is a big deal - people will pronounce it how you want if you tell them.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] ~ Some other suggestions:
[name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_f]Fania[/name_f]
[name_f]Fenella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Flavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Florina[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
As for middle names, how about:
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Marin[/name_f]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Judith[/name_f]
Your list is fabulous…
I truly can’t choose between the 3 they are all gorgeous!
The only other suggestion I have for [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is [name_u]Jaime[/name_u] or [name_u]James[/name_u] but I suppose it’s a stretch.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] was an awesome suggestion
[name_f]Judith[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] are lovely too
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] is pretty so maybe you could use it as a second middle?
For example:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
I love the names on your list. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and felicity were actually in our list. Honestly I’m not a big fan of liesel but that’s just me and it’s your choice. I live [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. Very classy. Husband vetoed it due to the go to nn of [name_f]Flick[/name_f] that he doesn’t care for. I love live [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. Very pretty. Again he vetoed dut to popularity. It wouldn’t bother me but it bothered him. Of your choices I prefer [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or felicity.
I love [name_f]Liesel[/name_f] the best, and I automatically pronounce it as rhyming with diesel too. Not sure how else you would say it. I think [name_f]Liesel[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] sounds pretty. I like a pp suggestion to use [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] in order to use a less popular name. [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is beautiful. Perhaps [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u]!
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is pretty, but I agree with you on the popularity problem.
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f]: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name! I would be delighted to meet a little [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]. About the pronunciation, hmm, they are very similar pronunciations. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you want it to be [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-zull and the Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] character says it lise-ull with more of an “s” sound, right? I think your pronunciation is much easier to say here in the U.S., so it probably wouldn’t be too much of a problem. If the pronunciation issues are really bugging you though, maybe [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] would be a good alternative?
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]: I’m always on the fence about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. Sometimes I like it and sometimes it seems too frilly or unsubstantial. Maybe you would like it better with the nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]?
As for honoring your grandmother, did she have a favorite flower that you could use as a middle?
Based on her names alone, maybe [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_f]Demi[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] could be a girls name, what about:
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Marin[/name_f]/[name_f]Maren[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Maria[/name_f] ([name_f]Maria[/name_f] might actually be a bit too sound of music-ish, even if you are pronouncing it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-zull)
[name_f]Judith[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f]
You could give her the same initials as your grandmother e.g [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
Sorry for any repeats, good luck!
I like [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]…and I don’t remember it being pronounced differently in The Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] from rhyming with [name_m]Diesel[/name_m]. I understand you’re not crazy about using [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as an mn, but I think [name_f]Liesel[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is very pretty. I have a friend whose name is Marria (MAH-ria). I also know a mom who named two of her daughters names that she said a variations of the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]…but didn’t know if either would be of interest to you. One is [name_f]Maren[/name_f] (or Maryn) pronounced [name_f]MARE[/name_f]-in) and the other is [name_f]Manon[/name_f] ([name_m]MAN[/name_m]-in).
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - It’s a nice name, but I’d be worried about the popularity of it, too.
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f] - I don’t like this much with either pronunciation, and I might get tired of correcting people about it.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - It’s okay, but I’m not in love with it, either.
Maybe [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_f]Marin[/name_f], or [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] for [name_f]Marie[/name_f] substitutes? [name_u]June[/name_u] kind of makes me think of [name_f]Judy[/name_f], but I don’t know if that’s too much of a stretch.
What about [name_u]Felice[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]? I think it takes that extra frill out and makes it a nicer name. Still feminine, but not over the top.
I love [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]. I don’t think you’ll have any problems with pronunciation. [name_f]Judy[/name_f] is the worst, but I like [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. The biblical [name_f]Judith[/name_f] was kind of a badass. [name_f]Liesel[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is a strange combo, but I kind of dig it.
