3 sons .... still question if I got a name right

So I have 3 sons :

[name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - 9
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] - 7
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] -5

We are both Irish and enjoy Celtic names. Middle names are all family. I like the fact they all have 4 letter first names. My middle son has platinum blonde hair and crystal blue eyes, tall and thin, kind and sensitive and loves animals. I had a hard time with his name ( I swore he was a girl) we landed on [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] but any time someone mis pronounces his name or he tells me someone called him [name_u]Rice[/name_u] I immediately wish I went with the back up choice of [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. He’s 7, so it’s not like I am going to change his name but I feel like maybe I got it wrong ?! I love [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and they are 100% suited to them and never doubt the choices. Help…why do I keep second guessing this?

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a great name!! I don’t think you should worry about it! I know a boy named [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and he wears his name quite well. I see it as more masculine than feminine.

I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a great name. I bet the mispronunciations are frustrating, but the spelling of his name also carries its own tradition and heritage, and hopefully you can highlight that aspect to make him (and you!) appreciate it. Are you getting mispronunciation just from people reading it for the first time, or is it a repeated problem? In the second case, I would try giving people a mnemonic device, like, “I’m [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], as in [name_u]Reece[/name_u]'s Pieces.”

I also think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] fits in beautifully with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in terms of style and sound. I think you got this right

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is the best. I love that name so much. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let people’s ignorance (rice?) bother you. It’s a great name and fits beautifully with the others.

As a person with a more uncommon name (that’s not spelled how it sounds) I get called all sorts of things. Very few people get it right on the first try, but it’s something you do just get used to. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] isn’t hard to pronounce, as mine has proved to be on a few occasions. (I’ve had people continue to pronounce it totally wrong, after correcting them over and over.)

I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] fits so well with the names of your other boys. If you have to correct people, don’t worry about it. They will probably be feeling more stupid than you will.

I think we have really similar taste in names! [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] were both high on our list, and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] would have been too except where we live it wouldn’t really be pronouncable.

I think they all go together great and all three are awesome names! I’d love to have 3 sons with those 3 names actually

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a great name. Some people just haven’t been exposed to the name or Irish culture or have a difficult time with pronunciation no matter how many times you correct them. My name is [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] (not that unusual in the Irish world or hard to pronounce) and some people consistently mispronounce it so I’ve given up on correcting them.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t doubt yourself

I think you probably would have gotten less pronunciation problems if you’d gone with [name_u]Reid[/name_u] instead, but I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], and definitely prefer that spelling to [name_u]Reese[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u]. I think you made an excellent choice and the name goes great with your other boys.

I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is perfect with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u]

Thank you all so much for your feedback!! It’s like I needed a little reassurance? My husband liked the name [name_u]Reese[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u] and I didn’t care for that spelling for a boy and loved the fact [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] was short, 4 letters, and traditional! It’s mostly people not being familiar with how to read it but easily remember once they learn it. [name_u]Reid[/name_u] was my back up but mostly because it was so straightforward … but I kept saying [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] or [name_u]Reid[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and to my ear preferred the softer sound of [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I am still hoping [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] catches on more in the US and in the future it becomes known, like [name_m]Sean[/name_m] is today. I thank you for the compliments, I value nameberry feedback! I asked him if he would have preferred [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and he said “like read a book?” No I like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]!

I like all your boys’ names, they are so beautiful! [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] was really the best choice!

Thank you!!

I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is great!

I thought that [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] was pronounced like hiss with an R for the longest time but that’s just because I have never met one. I think it’s super cute, you’ll just have to correct people.

I’m sorry you’re feeling like this! I like both [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u], but I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is a stunning combo and fits perfectly with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Definitely naming done well.

Oh, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

I’m a writer and one of my characters are named [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

BTW, my name is [name_f]Chrys[/name_f] - pronounced [name_u]Kris[/name_u] - and I have the same problem as your son. People try to call me K-rice if they only see it written, but I got used to it years and years ago. It’s really no bigger after awhile and much better than some boring way to spell it.

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] will be proud of his name if you are.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]. I love seeing real-life sibsets named perfectly and you did it right. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is perfect. I’m sorry there is confusion about pronunciation (I’m surprised to hear that because I thought [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] was a pretty familiar name, at least where I’m from), but I think pp had a great suggestion to have a comeback that you like - “[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] like [name_u]Reece[/name_u]'s Pieces” is cute =) I often have to say “[name_f]JuliET[/name_f] like [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]” when people mishear my name and it helps a lot. Best of luck to your sweet [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]!
