3 syllables + 3 syllables a deal breaker?

I think we’re going to go with [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] for our third girl, due in [name_u]December[/name_u]. My husband also really loves [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and has loved that name for a girl for a long time. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is a family name and the only grandmother who hasn’t had a child named after her in our family, so I’m pretty stuck on it. The only thing holding me back is that both names are three syllables (though [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is often pronounced as two syllables). I’ve always tried to combine short and longer names; my other daughters are [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

SO - [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (2 syllable last name beginning with P)?

FWIW, I think we’ll call her [name_f]Dottie[/name_f].

I think that [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is wonderful and flows so well. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about the syllables thing: my own name is 3 syllables in my first, middle, and last name and the symmetry actually makes the flow work better [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] works. My first, middle, and double barrelled surname all have 3 syllables, and the flow is fine.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] flows and works fine!

If that’s a dealbreaker then there goes my whole list! Haha, I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] are both absolutely gorgeous names and they sound really beautiful together. You can’t deny that perfect flow!

I love 3-3-2 syllable patterns for names so this is perfect!

It’s a really lovely name and it flows beautifully. I hope you use it!

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is 2 syllables in my accent so it absolutely works. I think it would work with 3 syllables too though.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] sounds lovely. I don’t think two three-syllable names is a problem. The flow is nice, but even of it wasn’t the first and middle names are rarely used together.

I think the only times syllable count interrupts flow are A) when the names in question are short, 1 or 2 syllables or B) when the names have strong emphasis on the same syllable. Generally, I think multi-syllabic names flow really well together. My own kids’ names have 4-3-3 and 3-2-3 patterns.
