3 weeks left and wavering

I just can’t get myself to love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], which is currently our first choice. Names I like (husband on the fence or doesn’t like) are [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (except I know too many dogs with the last two names so they are overused to me….but I like the sound of them), [name_f]Clover[/name_f] (not brave enough, but like it), [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

[name_f]Sister[/name_f]'s name is [name_f]Maple[/name_f]. Her middle is [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

Probably would call sister [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] if we went with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. Not a big fan of [name_u]Penny[/name_u]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f].

Any suggestions? Or encouragement for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]? Thanks!

I’m not a huge [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] fan, but I’d encourage you to name her just [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. It fits in with sister’s nature theme, has a similar sound to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and is more your style.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is very sweet, [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] make a very cute sibling set, [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] seem less matching. [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] go together VERY well – this would be my choice as they are both nature names.

I second the suggestion of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as the given name in the first stop. I think either [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_f]Lily[/name_f] would sound best together, although I don’t know how you feel about the full-on nature names.

I prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I found a new (actually very old) name recently–Fleurange…combines flower, angel and [name_m]French[/name_m]…too over the top, or vintage classic?

While I absolutely [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], I do agree with others to just go with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. It fits with [name_f]Maple[/name_f] so well. I’m actually surprised you’re implying that [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is too “out there” or bold! I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is so sweet and don’t get me wrong, I am pleasantly surprised and quite taken by [name_f]Maple[/name_f], but I do think it’s a “safer” choice than [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and totally usable!

Here are some combos I like:

[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]

Suggestions:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Garland[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_u]Pepper[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and Mapel together. I like the idea of another nature name… [name_f]Love[/name_f] Mapel and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] together or other choices:
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Posey[/name_f]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]

I personally don’t like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are better picks. I also like the suggestions of just naming her [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] if you like that nickname. Good luck!

I’m going to repeat what everyone is saying and suggest you go with just [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as her given name! [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] sound great together. If you aren’t sold on [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], then don’t use it (but I personally love it and think [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] also sounds great together)

Others :
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Perrine[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]

I was going to suggest [name_u]Piper[/name_u] for you, I see pp already did! It has elements that remind me of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f].

Personally, I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is cute and gives a lot of nn options, and it’s fun and unexpected after a big sister named [name_f]Maple[/name_f]. I do agree that you could use just [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] if you like, though some families use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as a term for grandfathers. I happen to know a dog named [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] so I’d be inclined to use it as a nn only, but that’s what a dog association will do for you!

If you like the sound of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but it has too much gone to the dogs, so to speak, you might like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. It has that same “zee” sound, and plain [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be elegant, not to mention adorable if you’d like to consider a nature theme that isn’t over the top.

I don’t think that [name_f]Clover[/name_f] would really be too out-there after [name_f]Maple[/name_f]; it’s pretty uncommon, but maybe you’re looking for something slightly more mainstream this time?

Good luck sorting it all out. I almost always get cold feet about the name in the last couple of weeks before the due date, and it’s no fun!

[name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is ideal.

I personally adore [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and the nn [name_u]Penny[/name_u]. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a sweet nn too.

I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. Not so much a fan of the rest.

I like [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] both have the el sound at the end which, if you like that matchy sound, is nice too. But personally I think they sound too alike.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] are a few of my suggestions.

[name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are a few pair suggestions - I actually really like [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f].

Good luck!

What about just [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]? I think it goes perfectly with [name_f]Maple[/name_f] but without being too theme-y. My favorite of all is [name_f]Clover[/name_f] but I do think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is precious. I’ve been so anxious to see what you choose as I just had my [name_f]Maple[/name_f] (nn for [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]) last week. I think with [name_f]Maple[/name_f] it makes sense to go with something else simple but offbeat and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is just so popular now and rising. If that doesn’t bother you, though, then I think it’s a fine name with cute nn choices. I like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] but [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is adorable.

What about [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or [name_f]Lark[/name_f]?

What is your favorite thing about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]? Thinking through the reasons you love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and listing them may help you solidify your choice. Personally I love the idea of [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as sisters! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] would be adorable

I can’t figure out the multi quote so just going to bring up some names people have mentioned and thoughts! Probably leaving a lot out, sorry.

I would love to name her just [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], but my DH doesn’t really love it. He had a pony called [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and it’s a very common name in [name_f]England[/name_f] where he is from. He LOVES [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. Also, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a huge family name for me. It’s the obvious name to pick. I do like it, but not head over heels and it was never on any girl name list I had. Can’t decide whether it matters if I love it or not. I also worry that [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] in [name_u]America[/name_u] is too masculine - along the lines of Pop, Pops, etc for a dad or grandfather. But if we went with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], I do like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] enough to use as a NN (DH would just have to compromise lol).

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is one I seriously thought of with my first daughter because I saw a wren building a nest the day I found out I was pregnant and then saw the babies fly out the day I found out the gender, but it sounds too harsh to me without seeing the W. I love it writing and when thinking of the bird, but not so much just saying it cold to someone. [name_m]Just[/name_m] hear [name_u]Ren[/name_u]/[name_f]Rin[/name_f].

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is my favorite although everyone tells me it’s for an old lady. It is super similar to [name_f]Maple[/name_f] - same syllables, amount of letters, and ending. I don’t know whether that is cute or if the names would just run together. I don’t think so with that Z in there?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] reminds too much of poison ivy since I get a terrible case each summer! [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is my cousin so that is out.

[name_f]Clover[/name_f] isn’t any more out there than [name_f]Maple[/name_f], but I just think not enough substance with [name_f]Maple[/name_f]. [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is unusual, but had a lot of meaning for me so feels like a meaningful name, not just a cutesy one.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - love it, but know a million dogs called [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] dogs, but now it doesn’t feel fresh anymore. Same with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. We actually had a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] ourselves. But I do like that style of name.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] my husband really won’t do.

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] is the other name husband likes. i actually do like that and forgot to mention it. So [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] are probably my two favorites.

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions and please keep them coming!

My husband actually just said he likes [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. That sounds quite sweet with [name_f]Maple[/name_f] I think?

I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f]! It goes well with [name_f]Maple[/name_f] but isn’t too much of a theme.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] are pretty. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_u]Sage[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]? Also, if you’re not brave enough to try [name_f]Clover[/name_f], how about [name_u]Clove[/name_u]? It’s a name from the Hunger Games, but it’s pretty, and not even in the top 1000, so you probably don’t have to worry if your daughter’s one of the five [name_u]Clove[/name_u]'s in class. Or you could name her [name_f]Clover[/name_f], but have [name_u]Clove[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is pretty, and so is [name_u]Clove[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_u]Clove[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_u]Clove[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped!

I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]/poppy with sister [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is sweet!
