I just cannot get on board with [name]Joan[/name]. [name]Jean[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Jane[/name] - yes. [name]Joan[/name] - never. Thought [name]Felicity[/name] is a sweet middle, my choice would definitely be [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Joanna[/name].

Today DH suggested [name]Joanie[/name] as the first name (no [name]Joan[/name]). That’s a total nickname-name, right? I feel like a woman should have a name that carries strength professionally.
While [name]Jo[/name], [name]Jojo[/name], and [name]Annie[/name] might be the most natural nicknames for [name]Joanna[/name], I think that [name]Joni[/name] totally works! If you feel torn about [name]Joan[/name] but both like [name]Joanna[/name], then I think that’s a great way to get both of your preferences in! While I like [name]Joan[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], knowing your love of [name]Phoebe[/name] and nn [name]Joanie[/name]/[name]Joni[/name] and your husband’s preferences pushes my vote to [name]Joanna[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name]! Beautiful!
Also, I think that nicknamey names are fine, though I personally prefer full names and using nicknames more casually.
[name]Joni[/name] is pronounced as [name]Johnny[/name]. Have you considered [name]Joy[/name] as a nn for [name]Joanna[/name] or [name]Jodie[/name] also?
Where we live, [name]Joni[/name] is the same pronunciation as [name]Joanie[/name], a la [name]Joni[/name] [name]Mitchell[/name]. We’d consider [name]Jodie[/name] as a nickname but not [name]Joy[/name].
My husband still ranks the names [name]Joan[/name], [name]Joanna[/name], then [name]Phoebe[/name], but is open to all options. I really am undecided! Maybe it will be a boy…we have that name solidly picked!
I voted for [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Joanna[/name] because I think it sounds better, but I like [name]Joan[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] too!
