30 weeks pregnant and need a name for: Sister for brother Remi William

im so sorry the name process has become frustrating:(

i totally agree with this! how are they so sure they’re going to use liv? if they are going to start trying in september there’s a long way before they have a baby! plus what if they have a boy instead of a girl? and years later they do have a girl but they’ve grown off of liv? there’s so many possibilities!

my first thought as a sister for remi william (wonderful name btw! i love remi/remy) was eve! similar in sound to liv and also means life

also love esme from your list!

some other ideas:
olive ‘liv’ or ‘ollie’ (could be called both nns!)
livie
chloe
cleo / clio (i love how she goes with remi)
lea
lena
sylvie
vivian (or any viv- name!)
lilou
zelie
ziva
thea
sybil
elvie
elsie
elia
zara
avril
coco
lottie
lune

Sorry this isn’t going as smoothly as you hoped

Would [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f] be an option?

Would changing the spelling of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] make it an option? I think [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] has a more modern look to it - I wonder if your husband might be open to [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]?

I can’t tell from reading the post if you still like [name_u]Zoe[/name_u]. Is this a matter of not liking [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] anymore or feeling like you don’t have another choice? If you don’t like [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] anymore, does your husband know that? Maybe he doesn’t want to discuss other options because he still thinks you love [name_u]Zoe[/name_u]?

Thank you. I think they’re such beautiful names too.

I love that Iris is a flower and means rainbow.I love gardening and flowers. And that Margot is French and means Pearl. For me Margot is a modern/cool name, I don’t associate it with an old lady at all. Granted the only Margot I know of is the actress.

I’m going to write out everyone’s suggestions and see if any really resonate with me.

Your list actually has a lot of names I like.

Ivy
Lucy
Heidi (do you think it’s too matchy for both Remi and Heidi to end in ‘I’?)
Nina (my first cousin and hubby doesn’t want family names, especially for first names)
Elsie (is it weird if our dog’s name is Ella?)

Thank you.

I like [name_f]Klara[/name_f]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think our dog being named [name_f]Ella[/name_f] eliminates other E or [name_f]El[/name_f] starting names? I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], and [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but have been staying away from them as I’m thinking we’ll constantly call the dog by the daughter’s name and vice versa.

I’m so annoyed and frustrated by the entire Liv situation. It’s my husband’s old roommate/one of his best friends and his fiancé. He’s a groomsman in their wedding.

I think it’s the fact that her brother and SIL used Isla Rose after she told her SIL that it had been her favourite name for years. SIL says she doesn’t remember this conversation…but none the less now our friends can’t use the name and she was very upset over it for months. So we heard about how upset she was for a long time and my husband ‘doesn’t want to do that to her again’ which I’m very very mad about. Because WHY ISN’T HE MORE WORRIED ABOUT MY FEELINGS? (I just want to say that I am extra emotional this pregnancy and this Liv fiasco has really set me off) And we’re actually pregnant and having a girl! People claiming names is ridiculous.

Anyway…

Thank you for loving Zoe Aurelia. I like to have two names as top contenders, just in case the first choice doesn’t suit that baby once we meet her. I do still love Zoe Aurelia very much. I also love the meaning. And it’s difficult to find names I love better. Which is why I was excited when I found myself falling in love with Iris and letting go of Liv.

I myself loooove Inez (and prefer this spelling) especially since Ines is a common Croatian name so it would fit all my criteria in a way. Especially if we have a more French middle name, but from the start hubby wasn’t crazy about Inez. So I think it’s a no sadly.

Thank you so much for your solidarity. It’s making me sad that the joy has been sucked out of the naming process (because I love names and their meanings etc.) I’m hoping to reclaim some of that excitement, somehow, in these last 10 weeks of pregnancy.

I prefer the short spunky just [name_f]Liv[/name_f] over [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and even [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. Thanks for your suggestion.

I think there’s a lot of variance between El- names and Ella is just a diminutive really (although it stands on its own of course). Similar sound, sure, but I think you’d get used to it. I have a daughter Kate and a dog Chloe–similar sounds–and I’m more likely to call my daughter one of her brother’s names and vice versa instead of mixing her up with the dog  Our cat is also Evie and we seriously considered Elena for our second girl, so similar yet again. If you love a name and can imagine yelling it at your toddler daughter dozens of times a day, that was always my go-to way to decide how wearable the name was, and only you will know that.

@anaavramov I don’t think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_u]Remi[/name_u] are odd together! [name_f]My[/name_f] cousins names both end in the same sound/letter and I know other siblings like that too! I think you could get away with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f], so long as you feel comfortable

I think you should use [name_f]Iris[/name_f] if it’s your second favorite. Your husband already vetoed [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I do like [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] a lot, but I’d like to see you use a name you’re really in love with. You were very gracious with [name_f]Liv[/name_f], and he can be gracious with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

From your first names my favourite by a mile is [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. It’s chic, easy to say and spell, sweet on a little one but elegant on a lady, not super popular but well known, and has a ‘modern classic’ appeal I like. It also balances your son’s lovely name in length, syllable count and vibe. I also love [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] spelled like this.

From your middles, I like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. I also like to a lesser extent [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

So my combo with [name_u]Remi[/name_u] [name_u]William[/name_u] would be [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] for quirkiness and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] for cool Scandi appeal but I feel [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] rolls better after [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and mirrors [name_u]William[/name_u] in terms of syllable count and classic vibes.

I’m sorry something that should be joyous is causing you stress. If it’s any consolation you have some really lovely options.

On the notion of joy - my wildcard suggestion is [name_f]Joia[/name_f].

No offense but I think your husband is being really rude and unfair. I think he should care more about the name, it’s not like you’re just choosing what to have for lunch, this is your child’s name that she will be called forever. But if he’s going to say he doesn’t care then he should at least follow through and not veto your choice a month after he already said “whatever I don’t care.” I know you weren’t exactly asking for this kind of advice, but maybe you should sit down and have a conversation with him about how he’s been upsetting you, and how you wish he would be more helpful in picking a name you both love.

But anyway, as for actual naming advice, I saw some others suggested some names that could be nicknamed to Liv - what about Livi, Olivet, or Lively? On that same notion, what about Viv instead? Or even a name like River that could be shortened to Riv? Or what about other short names with the V sound in them, like:
Evie
Dove
Love
Cove/Cova
Ava/Avia
Ever
Haven
Nova
Jovi
Vega

Or what about considering other names that are similar to Iris, like:
Irene
Irie
Isla
Ida
Riss/Rissa/Rissi

Side note: personally I have made the Iris-Virus connection before, and once you hear it, it’s hard to unhear. But it is an established name, so I would not judge someone who used this name or anything. I do think it is usable, but I also can understand where your husband is coming from on this one. (Although I do still think he should’ve communicated his concerns about the name better instead of saying yes to it and then a month later complaining that he hates it.)

I second the mention fo [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is a very pretty name but you have so many wonderful options on your list you really can’t go wrong.

If [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is the name you really want would talking to the friend help? It was already on your short list and you’re the one having a baby!

Thank you! I also love the name [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and thought it was a lovely compliment to [name_u]Remi[/name_u], but my husband eliminated it from my list from the start. So not sure if he’d be open to revisiting, but possibly since all this baby naming drama.

The only worry I have with [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is that our dog’s name is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and I’m worried about using a name stating with ‘E’

I like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] the most. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is tough because it’s pronounced very differently in Croatian so even though my husband brought it up as an option I don’t love it.

I’m going to ask him about [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and see how he feels about it.

I prefer [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] over the other [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] like options. That’s the tough part, I still love [name_u]Zoe[/name_u], so it’s finding a name I love more than you know… I don’t mind [name_f]Eva[/name_f] as it’s also a name in Croatian. But if I compare [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] I’d pick [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] over it.

[name_f]Liz[/name_f] to me is very [name_f]English[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom has a dear friend named [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] so unfortunately for me that name association is with someone over 70. I’ve considered Olive/Olivia/Livia but really prefer the short spunky and cool [name_f]Liv[/name_f] to the longer versions.

I have debated talking to my friend about it and telling her how much angst she’s caused me etc. But I don’t know if I could keep my emotions in check because I am so hormonal and cry at the drop of a hat lately. And I guess I was hoping to find another name that was new and get excited over it.

I do like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and my husband has brought up [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] up a couple of times.

No offence taken! Thank you for empathizing! I totally agree with you! I’ve had a chat with him the following day about how much he hurt my feelings and how I’ve been trying to get excited about a name other than [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and then he totally popped my joy ballon. He apologized.

I don’t know if I’ll get him to the point of caring about names more…he’s working long hours and in grad school in the evenings and we have a 1 yr old. So I think his mind is already overwhelmed. And in many ways it’s nice that he lets me give him a list we can pick from. The process worked nicely for my son. I do think if the [name_f]Liv[/name_f] drama didn’t happen with our friend we would be happy having [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] as options and deciding at the hospital. But for some reason now I cannot 100% commit to [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] at this moment…

I like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but we have a dog named [name_f]Ella[/name_f] so I’ve been trying to stay away from ‘E’ names. I also love [name_f]Esme[/name_f], but my husband doesn’t.

[name_f]Ida[/name_f] could work…I just worry because a close friend of his dated an [name_f]Ida[/name_f] for years and after they broke up she tried to get together with my husband (before we met). So maybe it would be a weird connection for him? I’ve never asked.

What about [name_f]Rita[/name_f]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] is it too much with [name_u]Remi[/name_u]. For [name_u]Remi[/name_u] I had considered the name [name_f]Vita[/name_f], but during this pregnancy it hasn’t appealed to me the same way.
