37+ weeks and no name feels right!

I just joined this forum and I’m hoping someone can help me name my baby girl, who’s coming within the next few weeks. Although I love many of the names I hear other people using, I just haven’t found anything that resonates with me. (Fortunately, dh is pretty easy to please.) Here’s some info:

She will have two middle names, since that’s a big deal in dh’s family.

Our last name is sort of like [name]Harrison[/name] and flows the same.

Our first dd’s name is [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Jones[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] (each mn honors one of her grandmothers).

I tend to like classic names that are not too popular but are not particularly unusual or hard to pronounce. I have a soft spot for old-lady names with a fresh twist. I have an aversion to anything that sounds made-up/trendy and anything that ends with an “in” sound (too rhymey with my last name).

I love the name [name]Jane[/name] and it is a family name, but I feel like it might work better as a mn. Other family names that might be nice to incorporate are [name]Gray[/name] and Calvert. Names that we like include [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name] … there just hasn’t been a combo that feels right, or I get hung up on some negative about the name.

Why is this so hard?! It should be fun! Does anyone want to put together some combos? [name]Feel[/name] free to use the names I mentioned, or start from scratch. I really want something that feels right! I’m also wondering if there’s anything negative I should consider about these names (like everyone thinks it’s a total porn star name!)

What about [name]Estella[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name]? I think it compliments [name]Lucy[/name] well, and you get [name]Stella[/name] as a nickname…

(I forgot about your last name, so I accidentally included some -ine names…Sorry about that!)

([name]Edit[/name]: I just realized that [name]Gray[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] makes me think of gray hair because of the “hair” sound in [name]Harrison[/name]. It may just be me, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.)

[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] Calvert
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Violet[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
I am not sure I like [name]Violet[/name] in the middle here.

[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert this is nice!
[name]Cora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is sweet

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (nickname [name]Vivi[/name])
love this!!!

I think that all of the names you like are really lovely. Several are on my list as well.

Check out the birth announcements in the [name]London[/name] [name]Daily[/name] Telegraph for some interesting combos with three middle names:

Good luck!

My preference:

[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name] – [name]Cecily[/name] & [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert Harrision – [name]Ruby[/name] & [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name]. – [name]Stella[/name] & [name]Lucy[/name]

I would keep the 2 last names together, ie Calvert [name]Harrison[/name] & [name]Jones[/name] [name]Harrison[/name].

I also recommend naming your lil girl the nn vs. the formal name, as you did with [name]Lucy[/name].

Last peice of advice – don’t over think this. Think about just the 1st names. Can imagine [name]Janie[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] playing together or [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]? Which one warms your heart?

I think [name]Jane[/name] as the first mn works for all the names you like.
My personal favourites are [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Ruby[/name],[name]Cora[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Stella[/name] (in that order). I really like [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] with [name]Lucy[/name] too; so cute!

Some combos I think sounds nice (might be repeats):

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert
[name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

Good luck!

I love your daughters name, [name]Lucy[/name] is so sweet.
Here are some combos I think would go well with [name]Lucy[/name]:

[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Rose[/name] “[name]Cora[/name]”
[name]Camille[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert
[name]Adele[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Violet[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Viola[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Camilla[/name]

wow!!! great suggestions!! don’t even need to add more!

I [name]LOVE[/name] all of the names on your list! To pair with [name]Lucy[/name], however, I think the best two first name choices are [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name]. All three of these names ([name]Lucy[/name], [name]Cora[/name], and [name]Tessa[/name]) have the same quality of sounding nick-namey in that they could be short for something else, but also sound legitiamte as names in their own right. I think that makes them work quite well together and feel well balanced, rather than one name sounding more formal than the other so to speak. If [name]Lucy[/name]'s full name were [name]Lucille[/name], I might be inclined toward different options.
[name]Ruby[/name] could also potentially fit in this category, but I really don’t like [name]Ruby[/name] with [name]Lucy[/name] - they rhyme to me.
I couldn’t possibly vote between [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]; I love them both equally, and they both sound fantastic with [name]Lucy[/name]. In either case, you would end up with two names that have completely different sounds and I think that is awesome.
Since [name]Lucy[/name] has a second middle name that functions sort of like an extra last name, and honors family, I would repeat that pattern and use Calvert as your next daughter’s second middle. As for the first middle, I think the obvious choice is [name]Jane[/name] because you love it so, it flows well in between the other names, and it is short and sweet which keeps the overall length of the name from getting out of hand.
So, my vote is either:
[name]Cora[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name]
or
[name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name]

Wow, so much great input. Thanks for all the ideas. I’m still having this issue where I think “Oh, that’s beautiful,” but don’t feel anything that pops. Things are starting to come into focus just a little bit, though!

It’s funny that a few people mentioned the “nicknamey” issue (i.e. names like [name]Lucy[/name] aren’t quite full names). Actually, I tend to prefer a more formal full name, and I had a bit of a reservation about choosing [name]Lucy[/name] over [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Lucia[/name], etc. In the end, we decided that [name]Lucy[/name] was the name we really liked, and it was enough of a “real” name. We’ve had no regrets. But I am having the same reservation about some of the current contenders (like [name]Tessa[/name] – I know it can stand alone, and we’re not interested in [name]Teresa[/name], etc, but is it enough?)

I am starting to realize that I really like the [name]Jane[/name] Calvert middle name combo that several suggested. This has been in my mind since day one. [name]Both[/name] names are meaningful to me, and I think this might be more important than something that just plain sounds great. I’m liking [name]Cora[/name] today … how does [name]Cora[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name] sound? Are there any perceptions or associations with that name that I should be aware of?

Also, any thoughts on [name]Jane[/name] as a first name? Classic? Cute? Boring? [name]Jane[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Gray[/name] [name]Harrison[/name]?

Keep the input coming! Thanks!

I just did a brief glance through, but I [name]LOVE[/name] all the names on your list

I wanted to quickly pipe in and say that I think [name]Lucy[/name] & [name]Violet[/name] are stunning together, and I really like the suggestion of [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] (or [name]Flora[/name] even!)

so ive thought more about it and my personal favorite of all the suggestions is [name]Cora[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert [name]Harrison[/name] it is simple and sweet and a little vintagey like [name]Lucy[/name], but they are different enough from one another that it doesnt take away from eachothers beauty. i really like [name]Ruby[/name] and it does go with [name]Lucy[/name] but i feel theyre too much alike, [name]Ruby[/name] doesnt allow [name]Lucy[/name] to shine and vice versa. [name]Cora[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert - [name]Lucy[/name] & [name]Cora[/name]…perfect imo!

I just love the name [name]Lucy[/name]!

Here are some sisters for [name]Lucy[/name]

[name]Alice[/name] - love it
[name]Cora[/name] - I agree!
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name] or [name]Franny[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maisie[/name] - love
[name]Marian[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name] - love
[name]Paulina[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]

[name]Alice[/name] is my fave followed closely by [name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name]. No, maybe I love them both the same.

Hello,
[name]Lucy[/name] is so adorable… I actually love [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] together - very understaded and elegant.

I also love the [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] suggestions.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert? [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] are rather delightful together.

Good luck

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Jones[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Calvert would be perfect together! [name]Lucy[/name] means “light” and [name]Clara[/name] means “bright, clear”. [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] both appear in the works of [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name], and [name]Jones[/name] and Calvert are family names!
