We are having our baby girl in 4 weeks. She will be our third. We already have a [name]Cooper[/name] and a [name]Saige[/name]. [name]Baby[/name] number 3 is now narrowed down to [name]Miller[/name] or Maddyn. It’s a girl and would love some honest opinions!!!
Please help!!
Ugh. Neither of them. Maddyn is too trendy and ugly looking, and also very nicknamey. [name]Miller[/name] is a surname, or a name for a boy.
What about [name]Millie[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Madeira[/name]?
Between the two, I would pick Maddyn. [name]Miller[/name] looks just as masculine as [name]Cooper[/name] and shares its ending, so to give her name a touch of femininity like [name]Saige[/name] and make sure her name feels unique among her siblings, I’d do Maddyn. That said, Maddyn reminds me of those [name]Madden[/name] sports video games that are popular and the shoe designer [name]Steve[/name] [name]Madden[/name]. I’d also be nervous of it getting lost with all the [name]Madelyn[/name]/[name]Madison[/name]/[name]Maddie[/name] names (of which there are a jillion spellings).
So if you are definitely between those two, I’d say Maddyn. If you are open to suggestions, have you considered [name]Maret[/name]/[name]Marit[/name]/[name]Merritt[/name], [name]Marin[/name]/[name]Maren[/name]/Maryn/[name]Merryn[/name]/[name]Mirren[/name], [name]March[/name], or [name]Larkin[/name]? (Sorry for the billion spelling options; even though there are many ways to spell them, none of these is remotely popular, which is cool). Personally, I love the way [name]Maren[/name] (the sea) and [name]Saige[/name] (the herb) have this subtle sisterly nature connection! [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name], and [name]Maren[/name] would be a kick-a$$ sibset!
Maddyn is trendy and made-up.
Miller is masculine and has the same ending as Cooper.
I choose neither.
Not a fan of [name]Miller[/name] or Maddyn. I know the whole “surnames for girls” thing is kinda trendy right now and I don’t actually have a problem with it, but [name]Miller[/name] is taking it a bit too far. And Maddyn is just awkward. Some more options:
[name]Madigan[/name]
[name]Madelyn[/name]
[name]Mallory[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] (“boys name”, but totally cute on a girl I think)
Is the M initial non-negotiable? It sounds like you are going for something that is very current and unisex, but I am curious how you arrived at these names. I would love to see what you other names you considered before narrowing down to [name]Miller[/name] and Maddyn for a better idea of what you are looking for…if you could give a few pointers of what is important to you in this name (e.g. honoring a family member, or number of syllables, “style,” etc.) or what you are trying to avoid (e.g. same initial as other siblings, “old-lady” name, feminine ending like -a or -ie, etc.), we could offer some more suggestions. What middles are you looking at?
I agree with everything the Ellenelle says in her post, [name]Maren[/name] rocks!
I personally don’t like either but if I had to choose I would go for Maddyn because [name]Miller[/name] is a last name or a boy’s name and it doesn’t go with [name]Cooper[/name]. [name]Maeve[/name] would be nice with [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Saige[/name].
alright! Well clearly people here don’t like my naming style. That’s ok. I really appreciate the feedback anyway.
Our other name choices were [name]Hadley[/name] or [name]Hazel[/name]. I’m going to guess the you guys like those better.
Middle names for [name]Miller[/name] or Maddyn are [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Hayes[/name], and [name]Harlow[/name]
Keep the opinions coming! Is there anybody out there that likes [name]Miller[/name] or Maddyn?
I like Maddyn since people might get confused if your son is [name]Miller[/name] or [name]Cooper[/name], you know? I hope I’m getting my point across; [name]Miller[/name] is too boyish in my opinion if she has a brother.
What do you think of [name]Matea[/name]? I think it balances out both of your names chosen.
While I’m not a fan of either first name (Maddyn: too trendy and that awful “y” spelling)([name]Miller[/name]: honestly, this is a fine unisex name. It’s just not my cup of tea), I do really like your middle name selections. As many others have already suggested alternative first names to no avail, I figure I’ll just roll with what you’ve already chosen.
First off, [name]Hadley[/name]. This is probably the most popular/trendy of your choices, but I still adore it all the same. Unfortunately, I don’t think it pairs very with [name]Miller[/name] or Maddyn. [name]Hadley[/name] adds a great modern edge to a classic (e.g. [name]Victoria[/name]), but I think it loses some of its value when paired with other current names. I’d put this name on the back burner for now.
[name]Hazel[/name]- such a quirky classic. I really love this name. I think it pairs best with Maddyn, as it sounds rather odd coming right after [name]Miller[/name]. Though, I hope you reconsider it as a first name. [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name], and [name]Hazel[/name] sound like a sibset made it heaven.
[name]Hattie[/name]- This name just strikes all the right notes for me. It’s so Victorian yet so cute, I can hardly stand it-- in a good way, of course. I also feel it works for either first name though I prefer it with [name]Miller[/name] (something sounds a little off with Maddyn [name]Hattie[/name] and I’m reminded of the mad hatter).
[name]Hayes[/name]- okay, I lied. I don’t like all of your middle name selections. I absolutely cannot stand [name]Hayes[/name] as a middle name for Maddyn/[name]Miller[/name]. It’s too masculine and pushes both unisex names over the male edge. I fear if you use this middle name, her name is going to be mistaken for a boy’s definitely more than once.
[name]Harlow[/name]- [name]Harlow[/name] is a lot like [name]Hadley[/name] for me. I love it, but think it’s best left to jazz up a more classically elegant name. If I had to decide though, I think it best pairs with Maddyn.
[name]Hadley[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name] are lovely names!
I think the names you have chosen fit well with your other children. [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Saige[/name] and both naturey (do you want that) and I also agree that if I saw [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name] and [name]Miller[/name] I would think [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Miller[/name] were both boys.
[name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name] and
- [name]Hattie[/name] [name]Miller[/name]
- [name]Hazel[/name] Maddyn
- [name]Harlow[/name] [name]Miller[/name]
- [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Miller[/name]
- Maddyn [name]Hazel[/name]
- [name]Miller[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
Ok…I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Miller[/name] on girls (although I prefer [name]Millar[/name]) and I always find myself in the minority on these boards because of it!
I really don’t like Maddyn because it reminds me of that [name]Madden[/name] game and also Good [name]Charlotte[/name]. My suggestion is - [name]Milla[/name] (Mill-uh, not Mee-luh) that’s how [name]Miller[/name] sounds with my accent and I think it gives it a feminine twist and also makes it not so samey with [name]Cooper[/name].
I think [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name] and [name]Milla[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] sound lovely as a set.
I think your naming style is just fine. Modern names, androgynous names, surname names are fine.
I do think the others have pointed out problems with these two particular names-- [name]Miller[/name] & [name]Cooper[/name] sound like brothers, and Maddyn will be lost in the sea of Maddys.
[name]Hazel[/name] is nice but it seems too vintage compared to [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Saige[/name]. [name]Hadley[/name] is becoming a popular girls name; it has the same feel as [name]Cooper[/name] while still reading feminine.
If you don’t like [name]Milla[/name] or [name]Millay[/name], I would go with [name]Hadley[/name].
I don’t mind your naming style. [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Saige[/name] are cool, but [name]Miller[/name] and Maddyn for a girl just don’t seem to fit. If I heard someone say my kids are [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Saige[/name], and [name]Miller[/name]/Maddyn. I would think your third is a boy. A boy [name]Miller[/name]/Maddyn just fits in your sibset. I’m sorry you are not getting the response you would like. I think [name]Hadley[/name] or [name]Harlow[/name] would be awesome for a first name to go with your other two. They are unique and interesting, but sound like girls. I guess I would go with [name]Miller[/name] [name]Hadley[/name] or Maddyn [name]Harlow[/name], and go by their middle name.
I actually love [name]Miller[/name] for a girl, it’s fun and cute. [name]Miller[/name] [name]Harlow[/name] is adorable, and you could also consider a more feminine middle. [name]Miller[/name] [name]Anne[/name], [name]Miller[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]…love miller though!
[name]Hadley[/name] sounds nice with [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Saige[/name].
What about [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Mila[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Mina[/name]?
I agree, neither. Maddyn is made up and looks uber trendy with the -yn ending. [name]Miller[/name]… Last name, at most, a boys name, and a beer. What about [name]Amelia[/name] “[name]Millie[/name],” [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Madison[/name]?
