First baby! Hoping that when we finally meet her we’ll know, but also looking forward to receiving some general opinions on what we have our shortlist narrowed to since when I last posted about 3 or 4 months ago you were all very helpful.
Top first name right now is [name_f]Mina[/name_f] after my grandmother, [name_f]Muriel[/name_f], who went by “Minnie” when she was younger. We’re still debating full name [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], since up until a day or two ago I was under the impression my grandmother’s Hebrew name was [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], but apparently that’s wrong (it was actually Mindel). I do love [name_f]Mina[/name_f] more than [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], but wondering if [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] would give her more options in the future.
Other options remain:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] (Aviva to honor my grandfather Albert/Abraham)
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (middle name??)
[name_f]English[/name_f] middle name options for [name_f]Mina[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f]:
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
The other dimension of the name we are considering is her Chinese name (my husband’s family is from Taiwan). This likely won’t be on her birth certificate, but could be in the case we name her [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and can’t decide on an [name_f]English[/name_f] middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother-in-law gave me a list of names based off of the meaning we wanted (light/brightness); they just happen to fit phonetically with [name_f]Mina[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] top choices from that are:
Ming-Zhu 明珠(Bright pearl)
Ming-Xi 明希(Bright hope)
Ming-Yi 明怡(Bright joy)
I think I would stick with [name_f]Mina[/name_f], it seems like it’s the one for you. And I think [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] would be cute, and the kanji(sorry if it’s not kanji, or if it’s not spelled right) looks good
I think if you love [name_f]Mina[/name_f] more, you should go with it! [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is a lovely choice, very sweet and perfect for both a child or adult.
Of the Chinese name options, I like Ming-Zhu the best! And it would be a perfect name if her [name_f]English[/name_f] name is [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is so sweet! All of your options are nice but that one is my favorite. And Ming-Yi is sweet too. I think if you’re concerned with her having more options in the future for nicknames this combo lends itself to MJ which is pretty cute in my opinion!
It sounds like [name_f]Mina[/name_f] might be the name for you/her! I think [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is perfectly lovely and complete. It’s a great honour for your grandmother. I don’t feel like you need [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] as a full name at all. [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be so beautiful, and I love the coordinating Chinese name Ming-Zhu. But you really can’t go wrong with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f] or [name_f]Joy[/name_f] in the middle.
I would definitely choose [name_f]Mina[/name_f], I love that name and I really don’t think that [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] will give her more options in the future ,I love [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] ,Mina [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and especially [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
If I had to choose, I would probably go with [name_f]Mina[/name_f] over [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. Mina’s a really nice full name, and it honors your grandmother well! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Aviva’s also super pretty!
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is really nice! Probably my favorite. I also like [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (adorable!) and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. Ming-Xi is my favorite Chinese name and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] Ming-Xi is amazing too!
I really like [name_f]Mina[/name_f]! I think it works as a full name and it has a lot of meaning to you. I like
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with Ming-Zhu 明珠 as her Chinese name!
I like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], but it doesn’t feel obviously connected to [name_f]Mina[/name_f] beyond your grandmother (as [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] doesn’t have an “n”). [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] are both nice names, but you don’t seem to be as attached to them as you are [name_f]Mina[/name_f]. I would eliminate [name_u]June[/name_u] from the middle name list as it doesn’t have a Chinese equivalent like the others do.
I have had a huge name crush on [name_f]Mina[/name_f] since reading Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ please use [name_f]Mina[/name_f]! [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is quite cute and works well with her Chinese name if you used Ming-Yi!
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] is really sweet and I like it a lot, [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] are my personal favorites. From the Chinese names I like Ming-Yi the best, it would fit perfectly with [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f].
