I know where they stand in the listings, my worry is that in our middle class pocket they will be far more popular than the national statistics show. Big sister is [name]Agnes[/name] and we’d love to use [name]Godfrey[/name] for a boy but worry it is going to be a bully magnet so have relegated it to second place.
[name]Godfrey[/name] is such a cool name, and I don’t necessarily see it as bully material. You certainly hear it less than [name]Felix[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name], which makes its refreshing and crisp. There’s also [name]Geoffrey[/name]. Nickname [name]Geo[/name] (or [name]Geoff[/name]) could be cool. If you’d like, you can pronounce it [name]Joffrey[/name] instead of [name]Jeffrey[/name].
Deciding what’s “too” popular is such a personal decision. I see that you’re in Australia, so I don’t have a good sense of what names are hot there. I’ve met many [name]Sebastian[/name]'s age 0-12 these past five or so years. And I think, maybe two [name]Theo[/name]'s?
My vote is [name]Godfrey[/name]. Definitely not popular or going to become popular, cool sounding but still familiar and not too out there, and very handsome. I see a [name]Godfrey[/name] as badass rather than geeky/nerdy/devoted-to-some-divine-being.
I can’t say how popular they are in Aust. either but in order of my personal preference are [name]Thedore[/name], then [name]Felix[/name], then Sebastain.
It depends what you feel is too popular. I think they are probably on par with [name]Agnes[/name]. And [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] (love these!!!) are so classic and have so many nicknames that even if he does meet another (1) he might not have the same nn; and (2) they will never go out of style. [name]Felix[/name] is slightly more trendy in my mind, but only slightly and I would never describe it as popular at the moment. I just mean out of all of them, it’s the one I can see shooting up in the near future.
I’m not such a fan of [name]Godfrey[/name], but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Geoffrey[/name] (prn either way), and that’s definitely a classic and great first name option. Good luck!
I’m in Australia too and am considering a top 40 name for our son to go with our daughter’s outside-the-top-1000 name so I know exactly what you mean!
I would say that [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] are much more on the rise here than [name]Theodore[/name] (plus I like [name]Theodore[/name] better and think it’s the best fit with [name]Agnes[/name]) so my vote would be [name]Theodore[/name].
I love all three of your choices and each strike a similar vibe stylistically. With [name]Agnes[/name], I would also go with [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] would be worthy choices as well, but the -s and -x sounds are similar to -es ending of [name]Agnes[/name].
