5-Letter Boys name?

I am ver new to Nameberry, so please bear with me…
I have an [name]Avery[/name] (girl) and a [name]Linus[/name] (boy) and am expecting a surprise in [name]September[/name]. I have a few girls names I’m playing with but nothing for a boy. I am insanely anal-retentive and need another 5-letter name  but can’t come up with anything. I don’t like anything trendy or in at least the top 1000 names. I like names that are off-beat, but not unheard-of. Also, our last name is pretty Irish, so something fitting with that would be ideal.
Thanks for any suggestions!!

I absolutely love that you used [name]Linus[/name], his brother’s name need to be just as quirky while being clearly masculine (to ballance [name]Avery[/name]) [name]IMO[/name]. If you don’t mind Gaelic spellings [name]Oisin[/name] (OH-sheen) could work perfectly in there. [name]Doran[/name], [name]Flann[/name], [name]Keane[/name], [name]Leary[/name], [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Tadhg[/name] (teeg), and [name]Torin[/name] are all other Irish choices that I could see as a brother to [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Linus[/name]. Moving away from Gaelic/Irish names I also like:
[name]Madoc[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Fritz[/name]
[name]Lucan[/name]
[name]Doyle[/name]
[name]North[/name]
[name]Rollo[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name]
[name]Ulric[/name]
[name]Ruben[/name]
[name]Benno[/name]
[name]Cosmo[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Dewey[/name]
[name]Ianto[/name]
[name]Parry[/name]

first name that popped into my head was [name]Orion[/name]. but…
caleb
bruno
meyer
cohen
colin
judah
jonah
tyson
quinn
check out theses lists though…

ok, i’m just going to throw this out there and see what happens.
i have always loves the name finn, for a boy or a girl. but it only has 4 letters, it’s my grandmother’s maiden name (there is alot of tension with that part of the family-long story), and it’s pretty trendy, right now.
just wanted to know you’re thoughts on this.

[name]Love[/name] it! My first sons name is [name]Finnegan[/name] but goes by [name]Finn[/name] 99% of the time, so obviously this one has my vote  it’s truly a great name and I can say from experience you won’t regret it. My son is five years old and in those five years we’ve only met one other little boy named [name]Finn[/name]. Also, if you’re completely set on the five letter thing, there is the spelling [name]Fionn[/name], it’s mostly just used in [name]Ireland[/name] so you might have some pronunciation issues, but it’s an option if you want him to fit in with his siblings. [name]Finn[/name] is a great name and I promise you will not regret it!

O I absolutely love [name]Finn[/name]. It can even be stretched to [name]Fionn[/name] if you want to (traditional Irish spelling) which I think would help make it less trendy. And it’s at the 300 mark anyway, my name was around 100 when I was born and I think I have met about 5 in my life. And 1 was a boy. Personally I think [name]Avery[/name], [name]Linus[/name] and [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Fionn[/name] would be lovely.

thanks for all of your input. I really like the idea of spelling it [name]Fionn[/name], bc of my husband’s Irish background and that it’s different from my grandmother’s maiden name. I do worry about pronunciation once he goes to school, but I guess I can cross that bridge when I come to it.
I also love the combo of [name]Avery[/name], [name]Linus[/name] and [name]Fionn[/name]

I don’t have any suggestions for you as I’m in the same boat! I have a 1-yr old son named [name]Linus[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] the name - obviously), and we are now trying to come up with names for baby number 2.

I agree that [name]Avery[/name], [name]Linus[/name], and [name]Fionn[/name] sound great together!

I think [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Fionn[/name] is a nice name. However, you asked for names not in the top 1000 and that is a really trendy name right now; I have met a bunch of young Finns and a bunch of people considering the name [name]Finn[/name] and it’s one of the most talked about names on Nameberry. But I wonder if that’s really important to you given [name]Avery[/name] is not exactly an obscure name (ranked 23 in 2010!). If it’s really important to you to have uncommon and untrendy names, definitely avoid [name]Finn[/name].

[name]Aiken[/name]
[name]Giles[/name] (with a J sound)
[name]Soren[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]

Since you are considering [name]Finn[/name] which is definitely not out of the top 1000, I’m throwing some other more popular names out there:
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Ryker[/name]
[name]Aksel[/name]

I don’t know about top 1000, but these were just some that came to mind:

Kaias
[name]Slade[/name]
[name]Quint[/name]
[name]Blane[/name]
[name]Brock[/name]
[name]Breck[/name]
[name]Stone[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Rocco[/name]
[name]Elton[/name]
[name]Trent[/name]
Varic
[name]Sloan[/name]
[name]Draco[/name]

Some thoughts…

If you like the sound of [name]Finn[/name] but still want 5 letters, how about [name]Flynn[/name]?

Also…

Osian (Oh-see-an)

[name]Regan[/name]

[name]Griff[/name]

[name]Dylan[/name] (a fave of mine, and already suggested)

[name]Brett[/name]

[name]Rhett[/name]

[name]Garth[/name]

[name]Arric[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] that helps…let us know what you decide!

A few others that I don’t see listed elsewhere:

[name]Nigel[/name]
[name]Basil[/name]
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Niels[/name]
[name]Silas[/name] (great name, maybe not good with [name]Linus[/name])

I think [name]Avery[/name], [name]Linus[/name] and [name]Nigel[/name] are a great set.

I’m not a fan at all of [name]Fionn[/name]. I completely agree w/ abbycd re: trendiness. [name]Finn[/name] is incredibly trendy, though as she also pointed out, [name]Avery[/name] is trendy right now, so maybe that’s not such a big deal to you. [name]Fionn[/name] just looks like a yooneek spelling of [name]Finn[/name], made to fit your desire of a 5-letter name, rather than a great name that happens to be 5 letters like your other two children.

Some suggestions with repeats for pp suggestions that I really liked:

[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Cecil[/name]

  • these two are my favorites…

[name]Niall[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Slade[/name]
[name]Basil[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Conor[/name]
[name]Conan[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name] - some might say too feminine, but I consider unisex
[name]Thane[/name]
[name]Angus[/name]
[name]Cyril[/name]
[name]Percy[/name]
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Oisin[/name]/[name]Ossin[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Tully[/name]
[name]Alfie[/name]
[name]Tadhg[/name] (means poet in Irish acc. wikipedia)

UGH!! I agree that while I really love [name]Finn[/name], [name]Fionn[/name] is a total reach, spelling-wise. I thought it was kinda trendy, but then some said it wasn’t so much-I don’t know what to think anymore!!
[name]Avery[/name] wasn’t in the top 1000 when we chose it. The fact that it’s so popular now really irks me. That’s why I’m struggling so much now. I want something that sounds like a name you’ve heard, but not that often. I kind of like Osian, but it sounds a little made-up. At least I have another 3 months to stress about it

I think [name]Oisin[/name]/Osian/[name]Ossin[/name] are all the same variation on one name. I just looked up famous Irish people in Wikipedia and got the long list and picked out names that sounded cool. If you have three months, you have plenty of time to find one that strikes your fancy.

RE: [name]Avery[/name] - I’m sorry it has gotten so trendy. I remember when there was a character on the show [name]Felicity[/name] and I hadn’t heard it before and loved it. It’s still a great name, too. The same thing happened to my favorite girls name [name]Charlotte[/name]. That had been my girl’s name for 10 years
