Our 5 month old (almost 6 month old) still doesn’t have a name and we’re not even close to picking one. We were having trouble with his name before he was born and knew we wouldn’t have one ready by the time he was born. After some phone calls I found we have a year until we have to give him a name. We’re stuck. After looking through my original list I narrowed it down to a few. When my son was born I tried a few names out to see which one seemed like it actually fit him. I settled on [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. The more I thought about it the more I liked it and I seemed like the “right” name, I had found it. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Problem is my husband HATES the name. He is usually a go-with-the-flow type but he hates this name so it’s out. I can’t push him to naming our son a name he truly hates. On the flip side he likes names like [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Brutus[/name_m], [name_m]Gaius[/name_m], etc. He has a thing for ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names. I’m not a fan. I don’t like the “us” at the end of the names.
Basically I’m looking for a name that is unique and different but not totally out there. The names I’ve like so far are:
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] (vetoed)
[name_m]Damon[/name_m] (doesn’t seem quite right, plus my husband likes the spelling [name_m]Daemon[/name_m], which looks like Demon to me).
[name_m]Damian[/name_m] (seems like a sinister, dark name. I think it was the name of a hellish character in a movie).
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m] (don’t love it).
[name_m]Davian[/name_m] (just looked it up yesterday, not sure if I like it yet).
You can see I have mostly D names because he looks like he should have a D name but I’m open to all other ideas. He is a VERY happy kid, smiling and giggling ALL THE TIME. Opposite of my daughter who is much more serious. So I was thinking of maybe something that matched his personality some what.
My friends have son’s names [name_m]Ronin[/name_m], [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_m]Nereo[/name_m], [name_m]Nazario[/name_m], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], etc. I am looking for a name in that vein, so all common names are out.
Also our last name is Hispanic (Salcedo) even though we are not so I’m trying to stay away from Hispanic sounding first names. He will also have two middle names so you can see what a mess were creating already
So far his name will be XXX [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] Salcedo. [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] is a family name (I thought about using it for the first name but it doesn’t really fit him). Does he need a 1 syllable first name, 2 syllable first name?
ANY IDEAS AT ALL?? REALLY ANYTHING WOULD BE HELPFUL. MAYBE YOU’VE THOUGHT OF SOMETHING THAT HASN’T COME TO US.
Here are my favorite D names for you:
[name_u]Donnelly[/name_u]
[name_u]Donegal[/name_u]
[name_m]Deacon[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u]
[name_m]Darius[/name_m] nn Dare
[name_u]Darren[/name_u] nn Dare
[name_m]Darrow[/name_m] nn Dare - sounds easy going and happy, but a little mischievous. Sounds great with your other names.
[name_m]Deveraux[/name_m] (pron. [name_m]Dev[/name_m]-Er-oh)
[name_u]Devon[/name_u]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_u]Dallas[/name_u] - sounds like an easy going, happy man to me and sounds great with [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] Salcedo. Also gives you nickname options.
Thank you for your suggestions. For some reason I can’t seem to respond to each person individually. I like [name_m]Deveraux[/name_m] and [name_m]Dion[/name_m]. I thought of Finnius, not sure if that would work with his other names or not. I think I’m at a point where I’ve looked at so many name that they all start to seem the same, nothing really stands out. Who knows, maybe he’ll be 35 and we still haven’t named him.
We love [name_m]Maxen[/name_m]/[name_m]Macsen[/name_m]. Its the Welsh form of [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] and means ‘greatest’. That might please your husband’s taste, without the ‘us’ ending that you dislike.
Best wishes with your search and congratulations on your little boy
What about [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]?
It has the ancient background, although I think it is Greek and not [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. It has the “us” ending sound without the spelling, and nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a fun little dude. I know it doesn’t start with a D though.
You mentioned you might consider a name that fits with your baby’s personality as a [name_f]HAPPY[/name_f] baby. I looked up [name_u]BABY[/name_u] NAMES THAT MEAN [name_f]HAPPY[/name_f] and there were only a few male names. Would you consider [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] Salcedo or [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] Salcedo?
