I’m working on outlining a plot for a story about a club volleyball team. [name_f]May[/name_f] sound bland, but I’ve come up with lots of subplots to go along with it - after all, you can’t have a team of teenage girls without considerable drama! (I speak from experience…:P) Anyhoo, I already have the names of the girls picked out, but my main dilemma is picking a town name and and a team name. I have decided the setting will be Maryland, closer to [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] City.
For the town name, I was thinking of calling it Ship’s [name_u]Haven[/name_u], but it’s kind of an awkward name for a town…
Any other ideas for the name of a coastal town in Maryland (I don’t mind necessarily if it’s real, but I’d rather it be inconspicuous)?
The team name is a lot harder. I could go classic and pick an animal - Tigers, Bears, etc. but that feels mainstream.
I really like the idea of hard core names for teams. For example, a local team whose name is the Bullets.
Am I making sense? I want something like that. I thought maybe something associated with electricity or magic would be cool.
Please help! It’s really tripping me up in writing the story.
I don’t know anything about Maryland or even US town names as a whole, but instead of Ship’s Haven, how about New Haven? Or something like Long Beach, Atlantica, Shoreville?
And for the team name (again know nothing about volleyball clubs) - Dynamos, Rockets, Jets, Hornets, Bees, Dragons?

I’m a volleyball player on a team full of dramatic high school girls. I think the Rockets is a pretty awesome name (we’re just our school’s mascot).
If you don’t live on the [name_f]East[/name_f] Coast, you might not know that there is a town in Connecticut called [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Haven[/name_u].
Personally, I think Ship’s [name_u]Haven[/name_u] sounds very quaint, not at all an odd name, but if you’re looking for something else, you should definitely keep ‘[name_u]Haven[/name_u]’.
Seeing as my volleyball team is called the Bulldogs (yawn!) I can definitely understand your longing for a unique team name. I’d suggest the Lightning Bolts, Bolts, or maybe something to do with the town’s location (Oceansiders?)

Have you thought of something that has to do with shore or the bay? [name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_u]Haven[/name_u], Shore [name_u]Haven[/name_u], or something along that line.
The corny person in me wants to suggest the “clam diggers” as you dig in volleyball and they dig for clams in that area. But please, don’t do that.
Zips, Tigers, Breakers, Lions, [name_m]Crash[/name_m], and Spikes are all team names I have heard of for club volleyball teams.

Or I was thinking along the lines of lightning the club could be called “[name_u]Blue[/name_u] Lightning” or something and their uniforms could be black with electric blue accents. @roxanne33: I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] corny things so clam diggers really makes me happy. so clever! Thanks for the responses! I actually decided to call the club Planet Volleywood (get it? like Planet Hollywood). Still not sure about the town name. But I think their school mascot for the school team will be the ______ [name_u]Haven[/name_u] Mavens (a maven is an expert). Cute, right?
