I prefer [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], but it’s an unusual name to find in the Ozarks, isn’t it? My ex-husband’s family is from southwest [name_f]Missouri[/name_f] and they went from names like Bethuel and [name_m]Dathan[/name_m], Maragene and Noxene, to [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] and [name_m]Jason[/name_m].
I would imagine that people from [name_f]Missouri[/name_f] would just spell it [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. Or at least the people I know from [name_m]Joplin[/name_m] and Carthage and Springfield would. (And they’d put an [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] in front of it: [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Jill[/name_f], lol.) But I’m guessing your couple was trying to get as far away from their Ozarks roots as possible.
I voted for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] because when I see it spelled with the G I want to say gill, like what’s on a fish.
Also, I’m a native and current resident of the Ozarks, I find it interesting that you are setting a story here. If you decide to post it anywhere I’d love to read it.
Good luck
I personally prefer the spelling of [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], but [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is more appropriate and common for the US.
I prefer [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] - it just looks prettier to me and I love it more than [name_f]Jillian[/name_f].
I prefer the spelling [name_f]Jillian[/name_f].
Thanks, all. Looks like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is winning, though not by much.
I prefer [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] myself, but for this character I think I’m going with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. Appreciate the feedback!
violetink: The setting was only picked because I needed an enormous amount of forested area, and then I did some research and thought it sounded like a neat corner in the US. One I haven’t been to, but I’m interested in visiting now. Trying to stay away from stereotypes. I’ll certainly let you know when it’s available to read. I’ll probably be looking for beta readers in about 6 months.
