If I’m allowed to distribute veto points, I’d give some to Maddigan (as it seems a bit too similar to the modern [name_u]Madison[/name_u]) and [name_f]Elva[/name_f] (there is a fairly important character in the Inheritance series by this name, so it doesn’t seem as original as some of the other choices).

I was torn between Jessany, [name_f]Olivette[/name_f], and Seffine, but in the end I went with Seffine. Like Ledanrod/[name_u]London[/name_u], it sounds similar to names currently in use ([name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], etc.) but has just enough of a twist to make it work with the whole “parallel but different” vibe.

Good luck!

I have to agree with Sleepy. I also liked Tamosina, Lowra, [name_f]Olivette[/name_f], and Jessany, but they were all just too modern sounding. [name_f]Olivette[/name_f] would probably be okay, and maybe Lowra if it wasn’t pronounced like [name_f]Laura[/name_f]/[name_f]Lora[/name_f], but Jessany sounds like [name_u]Jessie[/name_u]/[name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_f]Jessa[/name_f], [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f], etc., and Tamosina sounds Arabic. Suselle would be fine, but it just seemed a little too girly. I picture either a porcelain doll or a hooker in a sci-fi movie as being named that, and [name_f]Marta[/name_f] and Maddigan were too common. Zemma reminds me of an episode of The [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] and a character from a video game. [name_f]Elva[/name_f] is also too common and makes me think of a combination of [name_m]Link[/name_m] and [name_m]Elvin[/name_m] from The Cosby Show. Seffine is just right – and it makes me think of both Sarene from Elantris and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] from Firefly. ;D

I totally forgot to put pronunciations, lol.

Jessany: ‘[name_u]JESS[/name_u]-a-nee’
Lowra: ‘LOH-ra’
Seffine: ‘se-FEEN’
Suselle: ‘soo-[name_m]ZEL[/name_m]’
Tamosina: ‘tam-uh-SEE-na’

I figured they were pronounced that way. With Lowra, I figured it was either an alternate spelling of [name_f]Laura[/name_f], or like [name_m]Lawry[/name_m]'s or LOH-ra like you said, and with Tamosina I figured it was [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]-eena or [name_f]Tamma[/name_f]-See-[name_m]Nuh[/name_m].

Looks like it’s between [name_f]Marta[/name_f] and Seffine at the moment! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] it doesn’t end in a tie, lol.

I would definitely avoid Marta, because I have the impression it’s a very popular Hispanic name, and I’m not fond of using overly popular names in fantasy. Olivette is probably my favourite, but I don’t like it at all when attached to Lockett - the double -ett sound totally kills it for me (although “Oli Lockett” totally sounds like someone I would want to hug).

In the end, I chose Maddigan because to me, that one sounded most like something “Lemmy” and “Padrig” would choose.

[name_m]Cashel[/name_m]'s got a daughter??? You didn’t say spoiler-alert… ;).

I’m torn three ways here, between Seffine, Jessany and Tamosina. I think these three are all really good choices, they’ve got that little twist on a normal name feel that you’ve got going on. I also like [name_f]Elva[/name_f] and [name_f]Marta[/name_f] though, especially as her family (mother, father and aunt) have “normal” names. [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask who named her? I think [name_m]Cashel[/name_m] would choose Jessany, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Seffine/[name_f]Elva[/name_f] and [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] Tamosina/[name_f]Marta[/name_f]/Suselle. See? I’m very helpful.

And don’t throw your book away. We love it!

Sorry! I didn’t think of that, lol. It’s not too much of a spoiler in the grand scheme of things  [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] named her  I don’t imagine her as having the best taste in names.

haha, well, I checed the poll and it looks like Seffine’s going to win. I’m voting for Jessany I think, and no one has voted for Tamosina!!! Are you going with the one that wins?

Yeps  I am.

So me voting for Tamosina would be a waste of my vote? I’m voting for Jessany because I like that most, it feels like what [name_m]Cashel[/name_m] would name his child. It seems hopeless, but I’m going with my gut.

I guess at this point it would be, Otter  It’s still good to get people’s opinions though! Since she’s such a minor character it’s no big deal if I get to the end of the book and decide it doesn’t work after all

I like Jessany and [name_f]Olivette[/name_f] the best.

Seffine sounds a little fancy for a poor little girl abandoned by a prostitute.

Thanks for the input guys! She’s Seffine now  For those who’re reading [name_u]SI[/name_u], you’ll get to see her in chapter thirteen.
