I’ve posted a few times about names, but I really need to get down to business with baby boy on his way soon. I’m not sure if we have “the one” yet. DH and his family are impartial to very unique names, and me and my family are a bit more conservative, favoring more familiar names. Neither of us want a popular or super trendy name though.
I am still open to suggestions, although I feel like I’ve seen them all at this point. And it seems both me and DH can find something wrong with every name or a reason why not to use it.
Couple things to note: last name is [name]Reilly[/name], and middle name will be a long hawaiian name (not known until after birth). So keeping fn short seems to make sense to me.
Here are the frontrunners at the moment, from most unique to more familiar:
I love [name]Shane[/name]! The others are not my style.
[name]How[/name] about-
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Beck[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Jay[/name]
[name]Jett[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Ned[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Ross[/name]
[name]Ray[/name]
[name]Sean[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Scott[/name]
[name]Todd[/name]
[name]Trace[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
I have a strange attraction to [name]Crew[/name] for some reason. Most people hate but I just love it. I also like [name]Shane[/name].
[name]Ridge[/name] is okay but seems a little harsh to me and [name]Rex[/name] has always seemed too tough for a little boy [name]IMO[/name]
What about
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]Beck[/name]
[name]Dax[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Colt[/name]
[name]Teague[/name] (pronounced like [name]Tiger[/name] without the “er”)
[name]Keir[/name]
[name]Grey[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Tate[/name]
[name]Penn[/name]
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Nate[/name]
[name]Dex[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
Good [name]Luck[/name] and Congrats on your little boy!
I’m not a fan of [name]Rex[/name], it reminds me of [name]Rex[/name] the police dog…
I really like the name [name]Ridge[/name], but [name]Ridge[/name] [name]Reilly[/name] sounds a little odd.
[name]Crew[/name] is okay, but not as lovely as [name]Shane[/name]!!
[name]Ridge[/name] and [name]Rex[/name] with [name]Reilly[/name] just sound odd.
[name]Shane[/name] - [name]Shane[/name] [name]Reilly[/name] sounds nice
[name]Crew[/name] - [name]Crew[/name] is not a name to me, it’s well, a crew.
Thanks for the ideas. Some of those are just too popular for us or not our style ([name]Frank[/name], [name]Luke[/name], [name]Sean[/name], [name]Seth[/name], [name]Scott[/name]). I will comment on the ones I like:
[name]Blake[/name] –[name]Every[/name] time I hear a name that ends with a hard C/K with our last name, I hear CRY in the middle of it, which I fear is a bad omen (it’s sort of a weird OCD thing for me at this point)
[name]Beck[/name] – see above
[name]Jett[/name] – DH doesn’t love
[name]Max[/name] – of the 1 syll “x” names, we prefer [name]Rex[/name] over [name]Max[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name] – like this for a girl
[name]Rhett[/name] – do like this, but have a hard time saying it with last name
[name]Todd[/name] – knew a [name]Todd[/name] I wasn’t fond of
[name]Trace[/name] – like this, DH doesn’t
[name]Zane[/name] - DH likes this, and I hear Zany…I prefer [name]Shane[/name] to [name]Zane[/name]
Your name suggestions are more my style. I will comment on the ones I like:
[name]Flynn[/name] – I fear that [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Flynn[/name] are becoming too trendy
[name]Kai[/name] – love this name, but the long i sound doesn’t sound good with last name in my opinion – too rhymey
[name]Dax[/name] – love this, but DH doesn’t
[name]Cole[/name] – DH and I like this, but it’s taken in our circle of friends
[name]Colt[/name] – too close to [name]Cole[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] – Like [name]Reece[/name] for a girl
[name]Tate[/name] – Like this, DH doesn’t
[name]Dane[/name] – like this, DH doesn’t
[name]Nate[/name] – bad association with a crazy guy I knew
[name]Dex[/name] – [name]WILL[/name] [name]ADD[/name] THIS [name]ONE[/name]. [name]Dexter[/name] has a meaningful connection for us, but DH doesn’t like it in full, he only likes [name]Dex[/name]. I just wasn’t convinced it was complete enough that way. [name]Will[/name] think about it.
[name]Nico[/name] – Like this, DH doesn’t
Our Dog’s name is [name]Cash[/name], so that and anything that ryhmes with it is out (we took [name]Nash[/name] off our list). Prefer [name]Rex[/name] over [name]Max[/name] and [name]Shane[/name] over [name]Zane[/name] (although DH likes [name]Zane[/name]). [name]Leo[/name] was a name of my first pet that I hated (that rabbit was nuts). [name]Jude[/name] I like, but DH doesn’t.
Of these I like: [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Easton[/name], [name]Tobin[/name], [name]Duncan[/name] and [name]Colin[/name]. DH has vetoed [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name]. And unfortunately, I knew a [name]Nolan[/name] that I didn’t care for. [name]Easton[/name] seems to be getting trendy. [name]Tobin[/name] might be too adventerous for me, but it’s been on our list at one point. [name]Colin[/name] might be too popular.
I love your list and am not surprised it’s a little “out there” for some nameberries. We have a son named Titan [name]Sterling[/name] and are pregnant with #2 and don’t know the sex. [name]Dex[/name] is the front runner for us now for a boys name (not [name]Dexter[/name]) and [name]Crew[/name] likely would have been if it hadn’t been taken by a friend, but I love it! Either sound great with your last name and will gain some substance by having a longer middle name. Good luck!
I love [name]Crew[/name], followed by [name]Ridge[/name]. Awesome choices. [name]Shane[/name] is just too plain up against those two. I think you have real winners in [name]Crew[/name] and [name]Ridge[/name]. Nice choices!
I also like [name]Crew[/name]. I think [name]Dex[/name] or [name]Dax[/name] is great too. I’m in the formal name but use the nickname camp (after being unsure where I fell when I named my babies…I now know that I like nicknames) so I think [name]Dexter[/name] would be nice and call him [name]Dex[/name], but I think [name]Dax[/name] stands alone really well.
I love [name]Dax[/name], but unfortunately DH isn’t into it because of an association. Yah, I will really need to consider [name]Dex[/name] or [name]Dexter[/name] as a possible contender.
For those that like [name]Crew[/name]…the only hold up there is that his cousin’s name is [name]Tru[/name] (girl). We aren’t so close to them that we see them very often (they’re in another state). Does anyone think rhymey cousins is too much?
Also, do you think [name]Crew[/name] should be spelled this way or another?
