So I dunno if you Nameberrians have seen the new [name]Bravo[/name] show “9 by Design” yet, but I caught the first episode tonight, and my first thought after watch was: “I’ve got to go tell Nameberry!” So the show was a cute family reality show in the same vein as TLC’s 19 Kids And Counting, [name]Jon[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] Plus 8, ect. but a bit funkier/more modern. But here’s the rub, friends. Their children have some of the unusual [read: ridiculous] names I have ever seen aside from the A/B list, self-important Hollywood type.
They are:
[name]Wolfgang[/name], 12
[name]Bellamy[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name], 10 [twins]
[name]Breaker[/name], 8
Five and Holleder, 4 [twins] (Yes, Five, the child is named Five)
[name]Major[/name], 1
I think they lost the plot after their first set of twins. [name]Wolfgang[/name] is impressive, [name]Tallulah[/name] is gorgeous and [name]Bellamy[/name] is very pretty but Five? Seriously? FIVE? Did they realise that he would actually age to six? then seven? [name]Breaker[/name] and Holleder aren’t proper names and [name]Major[/name]? That would actually be illegal here, titles aren’t allowed for children’s names. Weird, weird names…
[name]Wolfgang[/name] is very harsh sounding. [name]Bellamy[/name] is adorable. [name]Tallulah[/name] is fluffy and pretentious. [name]Breaker[/name] seems like he’s just set up to be a wildchild. Holleder…idk with that one. Five, well while I’m sure they meant it to be cool and hip since he was the fifth one born, it’s really ridiculous. I like [name]Major[/name].
[name]Wolfgang[/name], 12
[name]Bellamy[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name], 10 [twins]
[name]Breaker[/name], 8
Five and Holleder, 4 [twins] (Yes, Five, the child is named Five)
[name]Major[/name], 1
Where do we draw the line? Isn’t it bad enough that we name kids after cars, now we are naming them after numbers and just random words. Whats next? Cupboard and Floor Tile?
Well honestly I love the first three! [name]Wolfgang[/name] is perfectly legit, and [name]Bellamy[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name] seem like a perfect twinset to me! I don’t see anything wrong with Holleder either-- knowing nothing about it I would assume it was a family name.
I generally like more “out-there” names, but I will say that [name]Breaker[/name], Five and [name]Major[/name] are too quirky even for me. [name]Breaker[/name] and [name]Major[/name] are at least somewhat along some lines of familiarity (ala Riker, [name]Rider[/name], [name]Ranger[/name], [name]Gunner[/name], [name]Thayer[/name], [name]Wilder[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], etc.) but I really draw the line at numbers. Poor little Five!
Oh well, I guess at this point I’d rather see some really bizarre names that don’t appeal to me than meet the millionth [name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Caden[/name]/[name]Jaden[/name]/[name]Hayden[/name]/[name]Brayden[/name]/Grayden/XYZaden…
Ok I’m watching the show right now and I must say, the names work better than I expected! [name]Wolfgang[/name] is called Wolfie and Holleder is [name]Holly[/name] (boy). [name]Bellamy[/name] is pretty awesome, and to my surprise, I like it more than [name]Tallulah[/name]. [name]Breaker[/name] is a really cute kid and somehow his name just really fits him, his dad called him BK ad Break a couple times. [name]Major[/name] is only a baby, but I haven’t heard a nickname for him or Five. Anyway, I’m quite liking [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Bellamy[/name] and [name]Breaker[/name].
I haven’t seen the show, but all of my friends are talking about these names.
When someone told me they had a kid named [name]Breaker[/name], I couldn’t help but think, “[name]Breaker[/name] of what? Wind?” I don’t know, I can’t imagine how much teasing and taunting these poor kids are going to get. Except [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Bellamy[/name], and [name]Talullah[/name]…they got really good names.
I don’t think [name]Breaker[/name] will be teased, he’s pretty much the coolest kid I’ve ever seen. [name]Breaker[/name] as a name makes me think of the ocean (waves). The connection with breaking things really doesn’t cross my mind, it’s 100% ocean to me. Maybe that’s because I’m from [name]California[/name].
After watching the show my opinion has just changed of the names… I like them alot more, and dare I say am actually starting to like- or maybe love- the name [name]Bellamy[/name].
I dont like [name]Tallulah[/name], just NOT a name I can get behind… [name]Wolfgang[/name], altough totally not my style it fits little Wolfie. Smart, mysterious.
Holleder- [name]Love[/name] that they call him [name]Holly[/name].Cute.
[name]Major[/name] [name]Robert[/name], again, not my style, but he WAS named after his grandfather, who was… a [name]Major[/name] named [name]Robert[/name]
The family is very hip, very untraditional, as are these names. In one episode they mentioned they have twice moved 3 times within a year… They are like, bohemian gypsies… rich bohemian gypsies
I love this family! I dont like the number thing its a little to impersonal for me. My DH was pulling for NINE during my pregnancy. I really like most of the names especially [name]Holly[/name] for a boy but [name]BREAKER[/name] i just dont like its so destructive. There is a female british designer who has a large family and she has a five or [name]Seven[/name]. Did anyone else read that article? i cant remember her name.
love [name]Wolfgang[/name] nn Wolfie and [name]Bellamy[/name], especially, is a favourite.
Holleder is different, kind of a clunky sound to it, and i wouldnt want to lumber my son with the nickname ‘holly’
Five is just atrocious. It’s as though the parents just couldnt be bothered thinking up a proper name for him. Poor kid.
The one i really like is [name]Breaker[/name], for the same reason that someone else said. First time i heard it i thought of the ocean and ocean breaks. thats the association for it with me, and i didnt even think of it as a destructive name until i read something about it on nameberry. i dont think i would ever use it because of everyone elses’ bad associations, but i think taken in an ocean context it can be beautiful
I love, love, love this show! This is such a cool family, and they totally get away with naming these kids such far-out names. [name]Wolfgang[/name] goes by Wolfie. Yes, Five is named Five because he’ll always be the fifth child. The husband wanted to name the seventh child [name]Seven[/name], but the Mom reminded him that they already had a Five. The boy twins are toddler age, and they are often called Fivey and [name]Holly[/name]. The dad’s father was a major in the army, thus [name]Major[/name]'s name. Another name they threw out for [name]Major[/name] was [name]Geronimo[/name]!
