A Baby Brother for Althea Margalo

(Reposted) Our first child, [name_f]Thea[/name_f], was born on [name_f]October[/name_f] 25, 2017. My husband and I really thought about her name (here’s a link on that Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums) and now that I am expecting a baby boy late [name_f]September[/name_f] this year, I want a perfect name for him as well.

As usual, we want the first and middle name to be Greek because we both have Greek names ([name_f]Cybele[/name_f] and [name_m]Damian[/name_m]). I really like the name [name_m]Priam[/name_m], and suggested [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] but my mother-in-law thinks [name_m]Priam[/name_m] is too unusual (I think it’s not, and if it is, I think it’s still usable.) I also like [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] but I’m worried it’ll remind everyone of the cleaning brand. I like [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (My husband likes [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] as well, we just don’t know what to partner it with. My husband suggests [name_m]Theon[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], and I kinda like it but it’s too matching with [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (As another nameberry user said). I also like the name [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] but I don’t know what to partner it with. My husband and I like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m]. We are also thinking of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]. And I am totally in love with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] but they’re not Greek, do you think I should just let the middle name not be Greek?

We are considering:

[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] / [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Theon[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
[name_m]Eugene[/name_m]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_m]Alastair[/name_m]
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]
[name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. (?)
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (Not Greek)

What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have other suggestions? What do you think of these names?

Congratulations on your little boy :smiley: I have never heard of [name_m]Priam[/name_m] but it has a nice sound, [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a very sweet name. I added some suggestions I think are Greek origin along with your name suggestions. [name_m]How[/name_m] about;

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m]?
[name_m]Eugene[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]?
[name_m]Achille[/name_m] [name_m]Priam[/name_m]?
[name_m]Alastair[/name_m] [name_m]Theon[/name_m]?
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]?
[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Marios[/name_m]?

I love the names you are considering! I think that you should try to find a Greek first name, but if you find a non-Greek name that you like more, then you should use it.

[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]/[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]: I love [name_m]Priam[/name_m]! However, depending on where you live, it may be difficult for some people to pronounce, but I think it’s stunning nevertheless. Personally, I like [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] slightly more than [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m].

[name_m]Evander[/name_m]: [name_m]Evander[/name_m] is such a lovely name and I think it’ll age well. I love [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Archimedes[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Callister[/name_m], and [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m].

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]: [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is stunning! I think it flows well with [name_m]Evander[/name_m].

[name_m]Theon[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]: [name_m]Theon[/name_m] is lovely, but it may be difficult for others to pronounce. [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] is a lovely middle name for it!

[name_m]Eugene[/name_m]: I’ve always loved [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]. I think it pairs well with [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_u]Calypso[/name_u], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_m]Lysander[/name_m].

[name_m]Timothy[/name_m]: [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] is lovely! I can’t think of a middle name that would flow well with it, but I’m sure if I looked more deeply into it, I would be able to.

[name_m]Alastair[/name_m]: [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] is lovely, but I like it more as a middle name. I feel as if it flows well with all the names you have considered.

[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]: Like you said, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] is the cleaning brand. Because of this association, I don’t think it’s usable.

[name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_m]Jr[/name_m]: Is it a tradition in your partner’s family to carry on the father’s name? If so, I think you should use it, but if not, then I personally wouldn’t use it.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

[name_m]Priam[/name_m] pronounced like [name_m]Liam[/name_m]? I’m really into it, especially with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] sounds really nice as well and I think it would pair really well with [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] would also be really nice.

[name_m]Theon[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] would be wonderful if not for your daughter’s nickname. Maybe [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] [name_m]Theon[/name_m]? You’ve got lots of great choices here, so I don’t think you can go wrong.

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] would go well with your daughter’s name

[name_f]Althea[/name_f] [name_f]Margalo[/name_f] & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] would make a wonderful sibset! [name_f]Thea[/name_f] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u] ”

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] would also be great!

Ooooh, I love your style! [name_f]Althea[/name_f] is simply majestic, and I do have a feeling that I’ll love your new baby’s name, too…

[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] / [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] - [name_m]Priam[/name_m] is aaaawesome, please please use it! It’s so grand and classy and unique without being silly or overly omplicated. [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] sounds like a beautiful Greek, and [name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] is good but a little P-heavy.

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] - I like it a lot, especially as a brother for [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. I even considered it for my own son.

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] - okay, so [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is one of my son’s middle names. I adore it, but I feel like it’s too close to [name_f]Althea[/name_f] stylistically.

[name_m]Theon[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] - yup, once again too similar to [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. What about Theoden?

[name_m]Priam[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] - see [name_m]Priam[/name_m]

[name_m]Eugene[/name_m] - reminds me of good ol’ [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] Onegin. I like it a lot.

[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] - very handsome! [name_m]Tim[/name_m] [name_m]Roth[/name_m] and [name_m]Tim[/name_m] [name_u]Curry[/name_u] and St. [name_m]Timothy[/name_m].

[name_m]Alastair[/name_m] - my husband likes this name because it reminds him of Aleister Crowley (creepy!). I don’t mind it either, but it’s not my fave off your list.

[name_m]Ajax[/name_m] - Goodness, we’re in the same boat here. I love it and would have used it if it wasn’t for the cleaning product.

[name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. (?) - I like it, but I feel like you have more exciting options on your list. I also think a baby should have his own name, not his father’s, but that’s just my opinion.

[name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (Not Greek) - I love [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] are good but very trendy.

My favorites for you are [name_m]Priam[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]. Some fresh ideas: [name_m]Hector[/name_m], Iskander, [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_m]Icarus[/name_m], [name_m]Homer[/name_m], [name_m]Achilles[/name_m].

I’m going to focus on the names you love here, as I don’t have that much time

[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] - I really like [name_m]Eli[/name_m]- names. Apparently [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is the Greek form of [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. Might make it a bit easier to use

[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] - [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] is also the American form of the Greek [name_m]Loukas[/name_m]. Unusual spelling, yes, but it doesn’t really matter for middle names, and it’s got the Greek touch you want.

Unfortunately [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] doesn’t have a Greek form. I hope you find a name you love

There is something amazing and fairytale about [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and [name_m]Evander[/name_m] together! Both names are cool and unusual, while still very usable.

I vote for [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Priam[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], or [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m].
