One of my favorite flowering plants that grows in our garden is abelia. What do you think about Abelia as a name? Perhaps a nice middle spot?
Pronounced: Ah-bee-lee-ah (or ah-beh-lee-ah)

I would assume that it rhymes with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and thus pronounce it A-beel-ya.
Yes, I suppose that is true. I pronounce Amelia with four syllables, so Abelia would still be a-bee-lee-ah for me.
[name_f]Pretty[/name_f]! I also pronounce [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] with 4 syllables and think it sounds so pretty this way.
I think it’s lovely and would work well as a name, either first or middle! I do think people will pronounce it various ways (my instinct is uh-BEHL-ee-uh), but it’s an easy correction. Also it has plenty of great nickname options.
This name is in my partner’s family and their family pronounce the name as you do (like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] with 4 syllables I have the same pronunciation for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as you do) it’s very pretty vibrant choice.
Ooh whenever I see Abelias in the garden centre I think it would make a good name! I like it
Nice~
beautiful, i love a floral name, and i think i’ll be adding abelia to my list! i also love all the nickname options: abby, bebe, elia, lili, etc. i’ve never heard of the flower, but will be looking it up immediately.
This would make for such a refreshingly different floral name, and I think it is absolutely usable! It may be misheard as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] here and there, but I think that’s easy enough to correct.
[name_f]Pretty[/name_f] name! I pronounce it Ah-beh-lia. It makes me think go [name_m]Abel[/name_m] that we pronounce Ah-bell in [name_f]France[/name_f] (I love this pronunciation)
I like these unusual flower names:
[name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_u]Snapdragon[/name_u]
[name_f]Xochitl[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] Squash
I like [name_f]Abelia[/name_f] - especially as a fun middle! (Cosette [name_f]Abelia[/name_f]? swoon.)
I really like Abelia; it’s bright and fun! It might be misheard sometimes, but I think it’s a nice name in its own right. It also reminds me slightly of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Bedelia[/name_f]!
Is [name_f]Xochitl[/name_f] a flower?? I never knew that!
