Ok, I’m mostly appealing to internatonal berries here but anyone really would be helpful. I’m translating fairy tales into modern day situations/problems/settings (mostly high school ones) and I would like to know if someone knows an obscure/well known fairy tale about oracles and present a name for such a seer. I’ve searched but I kind can’t find. Anyone want to help? though beggers can’t be choosers, I’d like it if the oracle was female. I’d like other fairy tales and names as well so anything presented would be much appreciated for.
Here’s the ones I’ve already got ideas/names for:
The [name_f]Canary[/name_f] [name_m]Prince[/name_m]
[name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]
The Shita-[name_f]Kiri[/name_f] Suzme (The Split Mouth [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f])
The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] That Never Smiled
The Boy Who [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Cats
The Goat Girl

Have you checked http://surlalunefairytales.com/? I always thought it was great, comprehensive source for tales and it has a search function.
Thank you so much. This site looks like it will be heaps helpful. Suggestions are still open from everyone else. Seriously though, thank you!

What about the story of [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]? She was the daughter of [name_m]Priam[/name_m] in Greek myth doomed to always speak true prophecies but never be believed.
There is a big difference between mythology and fairy tales. Check out the work already done by such authors as [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] Datlow, [name_f]Terri[/name_f] Windling, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Yolen, and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_u]McKinley[/name_u], particularly [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Yolen’s definitive book on fairy tales. For example, you will find oracles in myths – such as at [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] – and seers/fortune-tellers – as the fairies in Sleeping Beauty – in fairy tales. The story of [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] is a myth; the story of [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a fairy tale. Then you have fairy/faerie stories – Tolkien’s essay on fairy is especially helpful – where you will find such authors as [name_f]Pamela[/name_f] C [name_u]Dean[/name_u] ([name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f]) and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] de Lint.
I’m very familiar with Datlow and Windling and all sorts of fairy tales, legends, and myths. I’m simply making suggestions. Please refrain from talking down to me.
Thanks. I loved the [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] suggestion. So I’m opening up my horizons and adding mythological myths and legends to this book. Thanks
Oh, I love [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]! I’d love to read that story.
Good grief, I was responding to the original poster, who didn’t seem to have this knowledge, because of the question.
