My partner and I are big fans of [name_m]Franz[/name_m] Liszt, and we even went to see a film about him on one of our first dates, so we decided it would be a great idea to honor him with our baby’s name.
We’ve tossed around the idea of using just [name_m]Franz[/name_m], but I feel like Liszt would be much more meaningful and offbeat. What are you thoughts? Are we crazy?
I’m not really a fan. Liszt is hard to spell and pronounce, I personally wouldn’t want it to be my name. Then there’s the fact that the only obvious nicknames are [name_f]Lili[/name_f] and [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f].
I think [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is more handsome and accesible.
A quick wikipedia search showed that Liszt had kids named [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], would using [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] or [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] be a way to honor him as well? He can’t change his own name but to name his own kids these names they must have been names the composer himself liked. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought!
I think [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is plenty offbeat in an Anglophone country already and I agree with PP about the difficulties with Liszt. As one of the few male berries around here, I can definitely say I would not want it to be my name.
I agree that it works better as a middle than a first.
You could also combine the two for the still offbeat but easier to pronounce [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]. I think it’s pretty cute and gives him his own distinct identity. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to put that out there
Thanks molly20! I’m afraid we don’t really like [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], sorry. If we had to go with some F name, it would be just [name_m]Franz[/name_m].
