Thanks again for all the feedback on [name]Peregrine[/name] and the suggestions for other names! Other input is still welcome if anyone else out there wishes to comment.
Or you could call him Took! :o) I love LOTR!
@ genevie: Out of the names you suggested I like Rook, [name]Efron[/name], [name]Heron[/name], [name]Sherlock[/name], [name]Cornelius[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name] and maybe [name]Vireo[/name]; unfortunately the only one I think would be very usable is [name]Heron[/name]. Rook makes me want to follow up with “the crook;” [name]Efron[/name] I especially like but it would be taken as a Hollywood name due to [name]Zac[/name] [name]Efron[/name]; [name]Sherlock[/name] is probably too much detective but he’s very tempting; [name]Cornelius[/name] is a longtime favorite but he is [name]Caspian[/name]’s tutor in the book and that’s just mean to do to brothers; legend of [name]Phoenix[/name] doesn’t do much for me and it’s a city in [name]Arizona[/name]; [name]Vireo[/name] is a songbird so not really quite what I’m looking for. [name]Indiana[/name] amuses me because DH and I grew up there and recently moved out of that state to another state which rather regards [name]Indiana[/name] as backwards. Wouldn’t go over very well!
@meepallie: [name]Ransom[/name], [name]Orion[/name], [name]Balin[/name] – I like all of these especially [name]Orion[/name] because of the constellation, but since we’re quite English/Irish/Anglo and our last name is [name]Tyler[/name] I was afraid it would just sound like O’ryan. [name]Blaise[/name] is a new one to me; it looks much more refined than [name]Blaze[/name]. I don’t know that it can upend [name]Peregrine[/name] at this point but it’s worth keeping on a list. BTW my husband was very amused at your description of “fusty.” His comment was, “and yet you know exactly what they mean!”
About Nicknames (a couple of people have commented on this): [name]Love[/name] the nn suggestions of [name]Penn[/name] and Rinn. We had considered [name]Aaron[/name] as a possible nn or “more accessible name” if needed, so I totally follow the train of thought with these two. [name]Perry[/name] is not our favorite but we won’t croak if he decides to use it. [name]Pip[/name] and [name]Pippin[/name] have also been discussed! [name]Pip[/name] is a nn DH uses for me actually (because I’m a tiny person and I’m always hungry, yes it is a hobbit reference). [name]Pippin[/name] is awesome and I love it but might be too feminine since [name]Pippa[/name] is all the rage at the moment, not to mention extremely LOTR.
[name]Falcon[/name], which I have seen suggested once or twice, has been on again/off again for quite some time. It’s interesting to see this one "suggested because of [name]Peregrine[/name] being “pretentious;” we rather thought that [name]Falcon[/name] was a “trying too hard to be cool” kind of name. We’d also considered [name]Falk[/name]/Falke but someone pointed out it could be mistaken for “The F Word” and that was sort of the final blow for [name]Falcon[/name] too. I REALLY would not want my son’s name to be mis-heard has that. Yikes.
I’ve been doing a rather exhaustive search for names that would work for the “majestic bird” meaning/concept; the whole thread on this (and also explanation about how it connects to the heroes I mentioned in the other post) is here: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

Took! LOL!! I never realized so many nns could go with this name.
I agree-- [name]Peregrine[/name] is great and goes well with your sib-set. It was a good Pilgrim name-- [name]William[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] White’s son who was born on board the Mayflower while the Pilgrims were off Cape Cod was [name]Peregrine[/name] White (his brother was Resolved which I think is another great name). Anyway, I think the adventuresome nature/meaning of the name (“one who journeys to foreign lands”) fits perfectly with your other children’s names.
I think this name goes well with your sibset. It seems a little more unusual to me than your other children’s names, though. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ve never considered it myself, I’ve never met anyone by this name, and I’ve never heard it used before. I just don’t have a lot to go by to establish a “feeling” toward the name. My first reaction was “huh??” But after reading other comments I’m thinking “This is awesome!” So go for it! I love the idea of using knightly/adventurous names. Some other suggestions, just because I love them are: [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Lancelot[/name], [name]Lachlan/name, and [name]Balin[/name] (again). Best of luck!
i know of a wee girl called [name]Peregrine[/name], but think it could totally work on a boy! i really like it in combination with your other children’s names too.
I love [name]Peregrine[/name]. To me, it speaks of adventure and there is something very noble about it. [name]Caspian[/name] and Quilliian are also cute, but [name]Peregrine[/name] is the one I would choose.
I can’t believe I didn’t realize this! Definite historic plus for [name]Peregrine[/name] there to add to my (already long) list of meanings/personal significance for this name.
Thanks for all of these great comments and anecdotes (yes even the negative ones!). Very helpful, Berries, and you’re welcome to keep commenting.
