A brother for Maggie

We just had our 20 week ultrasound today and found out we are having a boy. We already have a daughter named [name]Maggie[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] (last name is an Irish name beginning with McG). We had a girl’s name picked, but need some help with a boy’s. We do know we want something classic. Please let me know your favorite of the following names (considering how they sound with our daughter’s name):

[name]George[/name]
[name]Gus[/name]
[name]Sam[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]

I really love them all! With [name]Maggie[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], though, [name]George[/name] or [name]Charlie[/name] is probably my favorite. I love [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Sam[/name], but I just don’t love them quite as much with [name]Maggie[/name]. [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] would be nice, too, but [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]George[/name] appeals to me more, for some reason.

Good luck!

I love [name]Graham[/name] the most on its own and with [name]Maggie[/name]. It’s so handsome! My second favorite with [name]Maggie[/name] is [name]George[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] is my third.

I vote for [name]Maggie[/name] and graham!

[name]Graham[/name] is a great choice with [name]Maggie[/name].

I like [name]Graham[/name] best with [name]Maggie[/name]. I’m not a huge fan of [name]Gus[/name] on it’s own (for me it seems more like a nickname), however with [name]Maggie[/name] I really like it!

Thanks for the input!! I really appreciate it. I think [name]Graham[/name] is definitely a frontrunner for us. I’m glad so many of you liked it.

I love [name]Charlie[/name] & [name]Graham[/name]. As much as I adore [name]Graham[/name], I think [name]Charlie[/name] & [name]Maggie[/name] would be great siblings!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Charles[/name] [name]Graham[/name] or [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Graham[/name]?

I like [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] McG.

I like [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] the best, [name]Miles[/name] is nice too.

Okay, so [name]Charlie[/name] is actually my favorite too…except for one small thing…it’s our dog’s name. I know!! I’m embarassed to even talk about this. Who considers their dog’s name for their unborn child?? We are so mad at ourselves for using such a great name on our pet…especially since that’s the only boy’s name we agree on wholeheartedly five years after getting the dog. Ugh…is it wrong to rename our dog and steal it’s name for our child? [name]Will[/name] our family and friends think we’re crazy?

I don’t think you should rename your dog…maybe if it was still a pup, but he (I’m assuming a ‘he’) is 5 years old. To be completely honest (and I mean this in the most respectful way) I absolutely think your friends and family will think you are crazy. You may get different opinions on here perhaps depending on people’s opinions on the importance of pets. I happen to love dogs, mine in particular :), and think of them as part of the family, so I would never dream of renaming my dog. I see it as you chose that name for your dog 5 years ago for a reason.

Thank you!! I appreciate your honesty. This is what I told my husband, but he can’t get [name]Charlie[/name] out of his head. I agree that people would think we are nuts.

You’re welcome! Maybe if you explained to your husband that your dog would be utterly confused every time you said “[name]Charlie[/name]”, but weren’t referring to or calling him

[name]Graham[/name] is the way to go. But I might also suggest Milligan!

I love [name]Gus[/name]!!
[name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] sound cute together, if you don’t mind them both starting with M AND your last name starting with M too.
It doesn’t bother me.

Well as far as the dog situation, I understand how that’s odd but your child’s name is a bit more important than your dog’s in my humble opinion. Maybe give the dog a nickname?

Because [name]Maggie[/name] is technically a nickname (though perfectly substantial enough to stand on its own), I would use another nickname-y name so as to flow better with big sister. From your list, [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Gus[/name] both fit that bill (and two of my faves, yum), but what about:

[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Ned[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Art[/name]
[name]Archie[/name]
[name]Fritz[/name]

I actually love [name]Max[/name] too…and [name]Oliver[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are used by dogs in our extended family. Should I ask them to rename their dogs so I can steal the name?? Haha! [name]Just[/name] kidding. This is where I draw the line.

Okay, so we have taken [name]Charlie[/name] off the list, despite that it is potentially the best fit with [name]Maggie[/name]. We have added [name]Declan[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name] (nn [name]Harry[/name]) to our original list. Please let me know your new favorite. Thanks!

List:
[name]Sam[/name]
[name]Gus[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name] ([name]Harry[/name])
