A challenge for namers! I need help with my name please :)

Here is the name I am considering for myself:

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] ______
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] ______ [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]

Both middle names need to be from nature. I’m looking for the whole name to fit my personality which is as follows: I am a woman of ever-changing tastes. There are things about me that are intrinsically me that don’t change but I do have a very dynamic personality. For example I don’t generally have favourite anythings because I change my mind a lot. So I’d like things from nature that also change, come in different colours etc. so they aren’t static, you know? I am VERY free-spirited, loving, kind, super loyal, bubbly, whimsical, hilarious, creative and compassionate. I’m also very strong; I never give up, I make my way through anything I want to and I’m very ambitious. I love these things about myself but my loving, softness and easygoing nature is what I most know myself to be. I only use those strength qualities when I need to.

I really want all three names to sum me up perfectly. Soft, gentle, beautiful and easygoing but quirky, strong and determined (I’d like the names to more so hint at strength and determination not roar at you lol). I’d like the whole thing to be decidedly feminine so if you think something unisex will go nicely ie. [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], I’d love to hear why you think so.

I’m also open to hearing other first name suggestions as long as it is from Nature as well. I like [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] because it encompasses a lot of the qualities I want to convey (dynamic - tree and flower and comes in three colours and grows rapidly) but it feels to me like it has a bit of an edge and I don’t really want an edge to be what people sense/see first because it’s not how I see myself.

PS [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]River[/name_u] are nixed for any spot because of popularity.

Thank you in advance!! I’m excited to see what you come up with :smiley:

I think you’re looking for a name that conveys the feel of [name_m]Walt[/name_m] [name_m]Whitman[/name_m]’s Song of Myself (a celebration of nature and life and soul, and which contains words to the effect, “[name_f]Do[/name_f] I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself; I am large, I contain multitudes.) If you get a chance to go back and read through it, he has some lovely nature compound words in there, like Loveroot.

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] AND [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] in the same combo definitely gets at that changeable, contradictory aspect of your personality (per your own description). I see what you did there (-;

FWIW, [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] doesn’t give me an edgy feel at all. It gives me a “wistful,” nostalgic, [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting sort of impression. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a nickname in mind?

Give me a little time and I will try to think of combos that convey soft, nurturing compassion, etc

Oh hey it’s you! Great :slight_smile: Yes my personality is somewhat contradictory lol. I am many oppostires that work well together I find. That sounds like a cool thing, I may have to go check it out. Oh good because I really love [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f]. I love how it sounds and how magical it feels and looks - the plant and the word. And I do love [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] (I’m seeing it for the first time ever in three months :D) but I’m afraid of “strength” or “chaos” being the impression. I want to be known for being unpredictable in an amusing sense not a dangerous one.

I do like compound Nature words… Ps my husband says that song highly accurately sounds like me lol

Yes, hi again!

Song of Myself is a big part of the American canon of literature, but don’t hold that against it. It’s fairly long but worth the read.

Suggestions for (unusual) middles:
Oxbow (the curve of a river that happens over millennia - gives me that lazy [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]-esque floating feeling but also conveys your perseverance)

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] - perhaps not very imaginative but the gem that contains all colors? Doesn’t get any more dynamic than that! I actually love this as a first name contender for you. Also: Opalline, Opalescent.

Chrysalis - to signify that you are always in a state of “becoming,” always changing and growing

Pantalaimon - from [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] Pullman’s His Dark Materials. Although a male name, he changes form with each emotion and in response to life events (until finally settling as a pine marten), which made me think of you. Of course, there’s always [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]!

[name_f]Pele[/name_f], Obsidian - both linked to volcanoes (very dynamic). Volcanoes can be unpredictable and yet nurturing, creating fertile soil and new islands, etc

I also think any of the earth mother or mother goddess names would work well to convey the nurturing, feminine aspect, like [name_f]Cybele[/name_f], [name_f]Ceres[/name_f], [name_u]Demeter[/name_u], [name_f]Idony[/name_f], etc. I like Amalthea for you, ultra feminine (plus, The Last Unicorn!)

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_f]Idony[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_f]Idony[/name_f] Amalthea
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] Amalthea
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] Chrysalis
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_f]Pele[/name_f] Oxbow

You are so thoughtful. I absolutely love the meanings behind everything you’ve suggested but most of them are a bit too unusual, even for me! I’ll break them down :slight_smile:

Oxbow - too masculine

[name_f]Opal[/name_f]/Opalline/Opalescent - I actually really like this one but it feels too old lady to me. I’m irked that I can’t make myself love it because the meaning is soooooo bang on! Same with the next one.

Chrysalis - I really love this one too but I don’t think I can get behind the [name_f]Chrys[/name_f]-sound and I’m more so looking for a feeling of fluid wholeness instead of transition. More Butterfly than Chrysalis (but not Butterfly)

Pantalaimon - so intriguing! But definitely masculine lol. I like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] too but it’s not very Naturey

[name_f]Pele[/name_f] - I was hoping for more nature-direct and while I love that you reminded me of the beauty of volcanoes, it’s too fiery for me. I’m only fierce when I need to be :slight_smile: I’m gently fierce haha

Obsidian - a great stone to work with but too masculine as a name

I love all of those [name_f]Earth[/name_f] Mother names <3 <3 <3 , especially Cybele but I really want all Nature names. Name-names don’t feel right to me.

Would a wind name work for you?
[name_f]Sirocco[/name_f] is awsome, it’s sometimes spelled [name_f]Scirocco[/name_f].
I also like Coromuel which has a rolling, lovely sound.
Vendavel, Solano or [name_f]Alize[/name_f] are other options.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you like [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]? I was thinking about geodes, how they look like rocks from the outside, but then when you break them open they are like treasures full of colours and facets and there a whole other world in there, one that has spent thousands of years growing and growing, water seeping through and leaving behind minerals and sediments that crystallise and create small forests of facets and complexity.
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] geodes are gorgeous.
A geode is a rock that’s alive and evolving and growing more beautiful over millennia . You wanted something dynamic and strong, I would call this a sweet option! They are also typically created by volcanic activity.
Gently fierce :wink:
Other kinds of geodes are:
[name_f]Agate[/name_f]
Chalcedony
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
Celestite

I too like the idea of a stone name to sort of link [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. A gem name + [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] in the same combo would give me images of spilled treasure, glimmering somewhere on the seafloor! I think that fits well with your description of your personality. @dearest’s suggestion of [name_f]Agate[/name_f] would be lovely.

Something more abstract and rhythmic like [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] could be gorgeous with [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], though maybe not as nature-y when heard on its own. I also like the idea of another geographic feature, like [name_f]Delta[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], or [name_u]Prairie[/name_u], or a sun/time of day name—[name_f]Evening[/name_f], [name_f]Solstice[/name_f], [name_m]Sol[/name_m]/[name_f]Soleil[/name_f], or [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]? I’m rarely a fan of [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] but it would be striking in [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].

I wonder whether Protea might suit you? It’s the botanical and common name for a rather beautiful plant from south [name_f]Africa[/name_f]. It is fairly common/well-known where I live (Australia), because it survives in our harsh conditions. It’s generally understood to symbolise change, transformation, diversity, daring, etc. It was named by [name_m]Carl[/name_m] Linneaus, after the shape-shifting greek god Proteus (who I think might resonate with you: Proteus - Wikipedia).

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] Protea

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] [name_u]Dell[/name_u]

Good luck with the search!

ETA: Sorry for the long post!

Wow!!! Thank you all so much!!!

@dearest

I adore the idea of [name_f]Scirocco[/name_f]! A wind name feels so perfect for me!!! It just sounds more masculine than I’d like so I’m not sure what to do there. Maybe I’ll just get over it because I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this idea so much. The only thing with geodes and crystals (besides the absolutely amazing connection you found in it for me!) is that I’d have to find a stone whose healing/energetic properties match my personality and sounds nice at the same time and that’s a tall order I’m not interested in facing. Wind is way better. I’m not so attached to the [name_f]Earth[/name_f]. It captures gently fierce perfectly and ties in my strongest qualities of ever-changing as well as being the ultimate free spirit.

@geeknamezyo
I love the picture you painted :slight_smile: I’m never a fan of [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] either, morning is better. And almost all the names you suggested are on my list for babies haha. Not quite for me though even though I like them.

@onomastodon

Holy bananas! Thank you so much for all the thought and effort you put into this massive list! lol. There’s a lot that I like. They’re so pretty. But after reading the idea of a wind name I definitely need to go that direction!

Any ideas of more wind/wind spirit/air names? Even smooshes of words or names that mean wind, air, breeze, soul, spirit such as (but not this one, it’s terrible lol just gets the idea across) Revelriewind. I love the meaning of revel/revelry because it has that excitement and freedom and soul feeling but it doesn’t have a wind connection which I need. So feel free to suggest awesome words/virtues and such that you think describe my personality or parts of it and lets get smooshing!

Ps. Strong preference towards more direct names like Scirocco or Revelriewind instead of wind goddesses or names that mean wind or breeze etc. Yay creativity!!!

Let’s play with the order of the names too. I’m now wondering if I want my wind name first…

Word-names first:

Zephyr? Zephyrine? Quite a soft, playful breeze. There’s Shakespearean reference to zephyrs not moving flowers when they blow.

Or Breeze, for that matter.
At the other extreme, Gale or Tempest?

Aeolian (named after a wind god, as are zephyrs, but also a geographical term for the ways in which wind shapes the earth. Emphasises the power/potential of wind: Aeolian processes - Wikipedia)

There might be something local or otherwise meaningful to you in this list of different winds (like Sirocco etc): List of local winds - Wikipedia.
Sundowner, Etesian, Calima, Cordonazo, Khamsin, Mistral and Sarma are quite pleasant to say (as are the ones @dearest suggested)

If you want to go celestial, maybe Corona (where
solar winds originate) or Aurora or Borealis (the aurora borealis & aurora australis are caused by solar winds, and their shifting beauty might appeal to you)

And, less windy, more ‘airy’: Welkin, Empyrean, Aether, Aura.

Spirit actually comes from a word meaning “breath”, but I suspect that might be too direct for you?

Some smooshes (not quite sure if these are the style you’re after):

Revelwind - this feels a bit smoother than Revelriewind (to me).
Wildwind
Windsong
Soulwind
Riverwind
Heartwind
Nightwind
Windrose: I quite like this idea - it sounds naturey and free, but is also the name of a meteorological tool. Free, but with purpose. (Wind rose - Wikipedia)

Good luck!

P.s. sorry to lean so heavily on Wikipedia for the links!

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]? [name_u]LOVE[/name_u], [name_u]LOVE[/name_u], [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]! [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] sounds so sweet and mellow, very flowy! [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] is vast and strong, a gentle power, it’s endless and deep and quietly takes up so much of our world. I think it’s a beautiful name set, now for the names:

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Henley[/name_u] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]? ([name_u]Henley[/name_u] is a medow)

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] (Okay, I know this isn’t a nature one, but it means [name_u]Peace[/name_u], which I love, it may sound too witch-y though)

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] (I can’t help but love this one, [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is a “place of pleasure and delight”, If you don’t have religous ties, it’s still a goregous name!)

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] Monarch- Okay I switched up the name order, but I liked it better this way for Monarch, I notcied earlier that you mentioned [name_f]Butterfly[/name_f], monrach, like you, is very verstile! It can be described as a species of [name_f]Butterfly[/name_f] or as in the sense of a ruler, like a quiet power! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you enjoyed any of these, good luck in your name search!

Hey! I think you’ve gotten some amazing suggestions here. I love [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] for you. Bells, feathers, chimes, incense, flutes and other wind instruments make me think of wind and the element of air.

Here are some out there ones—

[name_f]Feather[/name_f]
Clarinet
Myrrh
Bellewind
Susurra / Susurrah (nn [name_f]Suzy[/name_f]? [name_f]Sukie[/name_f]?)
Zephyrbell
Woodwind
Windchime
Windwillow

I made up Susurra (unless someone beat me to it!) from the word susurrus, pronounced so”oˈsərəs, a noun meaning “whispering, murmuring, or rustling, as in the susurrus of the stream.” But I’m thinking here of the whisper of a gentle breeze through the branches of a pine, and the sound made as the fragrant needles rustle and wave…a sight seen and sound heard as a child on a wooden swing, or a woman hiking through the woods, perhaps.

Woooowwww @stitchbitch what a word!!! Are you a writer? I love susurrus and the imagery you provided. I think I would spell it Suserrys, Suserres or Suserra if I use it. Bit of a lighter tweak since for some reason u’s feel so heavy and foggy to me. I love what it means! I’m also partial to Windchime because I love the soft perfect tones they make in subtle breezes or how they sing in stronger winds. I like the idea of Bellewind as well but there are so many [name_f]Belle[/name_f] names and I’ve never liked them. For some reason I like B names on boys better.

@mammadannie

Thank you!! I think it’s really beautiful too!! My favourite of your suggestions is [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. It’s really beautiful and I like how it feels even though I have no religious ties. [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is too witchy haha.

@onomastodon

Thank you for all the googling :slight_smile: I like [name_f]Mistral[/name_f], Cierzo-Cierza and [name_f]Scirocco[/name_f] but none of them feel feminine enough. I giggled when I rad Windrose because while beautiful and my former favourite flower, where I live, wind rows are piles of snow on the side of the street that were cleared from the road lol. I want to like Borea/Borealis and [name_f]Corona[/name_f] because I never would have thought of solar winds and what they create! Sooooo beautiful and spirit lifting! But the B and Bor- sounds don’t sound nice and [name_f]Corona[/name_f] is a beer.

Lots of things to think about thank you!!! Please do suggest more if you come up with anything else! (I was told something really hard last night and my brain is fried trying to sort through it so the help with my name is very appreciated!)

The more I play and explore, the more I feel like something windy isn’t the right fit. I think if it were then something would’ve jumped out with all the wonderful suggestions and all the digging I’ve done. Oh well :slight_smile: lets keep going with the rest of nature!

[name_f]Snow[/name_f]/Raindrop (a personal favorite even if some think it’s outlandish!)/[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]/[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]/[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (too common?)/[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]/[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]/[name_f]Valley[/name_f]/[name_f]Crystal[/name_f]/[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]/[name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f] (maybe?conflicted because of [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m].)/[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (too old lady?)/[name_f]Silk[/name_f]/[name_f]Petal[/name_f]/[name_u]Skye[/name_u]/[name_f]Dawn[/name_f]/[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]/[name_f]Fern[/name_f]/[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (moon and a kind of beautiful moth!)/[name_u]Sage[/name_u]?

Thank you everyone SO MUCH!!! I have settled on something but I want to give it a few days to settle in before I reveal what it is!! Your help has been invaluable and quite fun! If you’re curious keep posted for when I share the news :slight_smile: Thanks again! You’re all wonderful!
