Ok so I posted a while ago (few days?) about naming our baby girl, and I’ve come up with a few questions.
We are really struggling to come up with something. Our favorite was [name_f]Darla[/name_f] for a while and then my OH really liked [name_f]Alaina[/name_f].
So my first question is
What do you think of [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]?
We would probably use the nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. I’m just unsure about it.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Darla[/name_f] or [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]?
And my final request:
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any uncommon name ideas for girls? We want something kind of sweet that will still age well with her, which is one concern I have about [name_f]Alaina[/name_f].
Some I like but my OH isn’t sure about are: [name_f]Corrina[/name_f]/[name_f]Carina[/name_f], [name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].
I am not a fan of [name_f]Darla[/name_f] but not sure why… I have a friend that has an [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] and I think it works and will into adulthood. I like [name_f]Carina[/name_f].
Other options:
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] - this is almost a combo of [name_f]Darla[/name_f] and [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
I like [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]. I think it would work on an adult perfectly well
I like [name_f]Darla[/name_f] too but I do prefer [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Carina[/name_f], [name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f] & [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] from your other list.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the [name_f]Elena[/name_f] spelling. I knew a couple of Elenas growing up (and I only ever heard it pronounced like [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]), and I think it looks more mature than [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], which may or may not solve your concern about whether [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] ages well. [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] has always sounded great but looked kind of whiny to me. You wouldn’t get to [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as a nickname with [name_f]Elena[/name_f], though (you’d get [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_u]Laney[/name_u] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]). There’s also [name_f]Helena[/name_f], which looks very sophisticated to me and sounds really similar.
I prefer [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] to [name_f]Darla[/name_f], because it feels more versatile. [name_f]Darla[/name_f] is fine but feels a little excessively sweet to me. [name_f]Daria[/name_f] feels more mature to me (not sure if you like it).
Of the other names you like, I seriously love [name_f]Carina[/name_f]/[name_f]Corrina[/name_f]/[name_f]Karina[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], and solidly like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Alina[/name_f]. [name_f]Althea[/name_f] feels really different from the rest stylistically and it makes me picture a very specific personality type whereas the others don’t (if that makes sense).
[name_f]Darla[/name_f] seems very close to [name_f]Darlene[/name_f] which seems like an older name to me. I [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], but not super crazy about the spelling - it makes me think… Am I about to pronounce this correctly? [name_m]Just[/name_m] my 2 cents, congrats!!
I agree with oregano7! I prefer [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], but I like the spelling [name_f]Elena[/name_f] much better. It looks less…I don’t know how to put it. More timeless, I suppose :).
I tend to associate [name_f]Darla[/name_f] with an older woman for some reason. I think [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] is lively and is a great name to grow with your daughter. You could always use [name_f]Laina[/name_f] or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] as nn’s as well. I just came across the following few names in reviewing one of my own lists that I’ve never heard on anyone before…
[name_f]Amaya[/name_f] ([name_f]Amaia[/name_f])
[name_f]Baila[/name_f] ([name_f]Beyla[/name_f])
[name_f]Caia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eveline[/name_f] (Ev like [name_u]Ever[/name_u])
[name_f]Evenie[/name_f]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]
