I live in Australia so I am not aware of the men’s magazine except I think it is spelt as [name]Maxim[/name] isn’t it?
I love the name [name]Maxim[/name] and I also love the name [name]Max[/name] and love [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Ben[/name] as stand alone names too. You will find some on nameberry who disagree but I think they are good strong names and do not need the longer version to look better.
I rather like [name]Hendrik[/name] not so fond of [name]Brooks[/name] for a boy but really like [name]Brooke[/name] for a girl but it may be seen as dated now.
Why not just go for [name]Max[/name] instead of [name]Maksim[/name] unless there is a cultural or family connection?
I’m not really feeling [name]Hendrik[/name], but [name]Brooks[/name] is very cool!
I would not use [name]Maksim[/name] because of the men’s magazine. There are many other great [name]Max[/name] names, thought. My favorite being [name]Maxwell[/name] at the moment.
I don’t really like [name]Ben[/name] on its own, but I might be a tad bit biased as I love the name [name]Benjamin[/name] with the nn [name]Benny[/name].
[name]Leo[/name] I love on its own. [name]Leonard[/name] is too dated and [name]Leonardo[/name] sounds a bit snobby. [name]Leo[/name] has a very cool vibe.
What do you think of the boy’s names [name]Henrik[/name] and [name]Brooks[/name]?
I really like [name]Henrik[/name], it is a strong name and he can go by [name]Henri[/name] if he wants to. [name]Brooks[/name] is a strong name, but it seems like it might be a bit dated.
Would you avoid using [name]Maksim[/name] because of the men’s magazine?
I would rather [name]Maxim[/name] because it seems like made up and it gets to the nickname [name]Max[/name]. The connection to the magazine wouldn’t bother me too much, and if he doesn’t like it he can go by [name]Max[/name].
Would it be weird to use just [name]Ben[/name] or [name]Leo[/name], not [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Leonardo[/name]?
I think [name]Leo[/name] can be used alone, but [name]Ben[/name] may have to deal with everyone thinking that he is [name]Benjamin[/name]. But the same think would happen if he was [name]Bennett[/name] and went by [name]Ben[/name]. I love the nickname [name]Ben[/name]!
[name]Just[/name] to clear things up, that wasn’t a typo. It’s actually [name]Henrik[/name] (like [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Rick[/name] smooshed together), not [name]Hendrick[/name]. I’m not sure that’s even a legit name, but I got it from [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name]. [name]Just[/name] thought it was kind of charming. Does that change your opinion of the name?
There’s no connection to [name]Maksim[/name], other than I just like it. But I don’t really like [name]Max[/name]…if that even makes sense! I don’t know, I guess it’s fine as a NN for [name]Maksim[/name], but I don’t like it otherwise. And I’m not sure that I like [name]Maxwell[/name] all that much either.
Well, [name]Henrik[/name] makes me think of Nazis and [name]Heinrich[/name] Himmler, so I have to say no, I don’t like it. (No offense to any Henriks out there!) I do like [name]Brooks[/name], however, and don’t feel like these names go together at all.
Yes, I would avoid using [name]Maksim[/name] because of the men’s magazine. [name]Even[/name] if you spell it differently, it still sounds like you are saying ‘[name]Maxim[/name].’
Personally, I would use a full name for [name]Ben[/name], whether [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Bennett[/name], but I think [name]Leo[/name] stands alone.
[name]Henrik[/name] I like…we have [name]Hendrik[/name] on our list, with the D. I think they both sound like more grown-up version of [name]Henry[/name] which is good.
[name]Maksim[/name] I also like. I considered it for our list. My dilemma was that my husband wanted “[name]Max[/name]” but I didn’t want to go with the standard [name]Maxwell[/name] or Maxmilian…which brought me to [name]Maxim[/name]. I didn’t want it to be like the magazine either so that brought me to [name]Maksim[/name]…the Russian spelling.
Two similarities with [name]Henrik[/name] and [name]Maksim[/name] for me were that even though the full names were uncommon they still had the popular nicknames…thus defeating the purpose of giving them uncommon names.
We have [name]Leopold[/name] on our list…do you like that?
[name]Henrik[/name]-not made up! [name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it? I say “HINE-rick”. I love this name, manly
[name]Brooks[/name]-I debate, I dislike the ‘s’ ending, its more of a mn or ln to me, and sounds country as a fn. What mn would you use w/ [name]Brooks[/name]?
[name]Maksim[/name]- don’t care about the men’s mag, but I don’t think this spelling gives you nn [name]Max[/name], you get Mak or [name]Maks[/name], and will always have to correct the spelling…like my friends who named their son Alekzandr and their daughter Alexsys (oh my word why?lol). However, I do think [name]Maksim[/name] may be a legit spelling.
[name]Ben[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] aren’t stand alone names imo. I prefer [name]Bennett[/name], [name]Benedict[/name], or [name]Benjamin[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name]. [name]Leonard[/name] and [name]Leonardo[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] are alright, but do I love [name]Leon[/name] on its own and it doesn’t need a nn.
I like the sound of [name]Henrik[/name] but not sure how well it would fit in with other children. [name]Maksim[/name] I would avoid due to the magazine but if you’re looking for a different way to get to [name]Max[/name], I really like Macsen which is a Welsh name. If you would use [name]Max[/name] for [name]Maksim[/name], I definitely think you could use it for Macsen. Although I really like the [name]Mac[/name] nn too!
Like others, I think [name]Leo[/name] can stand alone but not [name]Ben[/name].
Please explain to me why [name]Ben[/name] can’t be a stand alone name. I see no difference between it and [name]Leo[/name] and think it is crazy to give someone a name they will never use eg [name]Benjamin[/name].
