A few questions

hello berries

i found some names that i like but im worried about the association with them.

[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]- was told it sounded to snobbish
[name_f]Swanhild[/name_f]- not germanic or too much for a child
[name_f]Cerise[/name_f]-not french

I was wondering if these names are usable?

Bianca is gorgeous! A great association is [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] from the rescuers. It doesn’t sound snobbish to me.

Swanhild could work as a middle name. You don’t have to be Germanic to use it. You can use any name from any origin.

Cerise is pretty. I had a doll named that. [name_u]French[/name_u] names are gorgeous and I don’t think that you have to be [name_u]French[/name_u] to use them.

Ok i definitely don’t think [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] is snobbish, i used to know a little girl named [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] that was really into ballet so I think of ballet when I hear it.

I don’t think you need to be [name_m]German[/name_m] to use [name_f]Swanhild[/name_f], but it is quite a rare name. It’s the ‘hild’ bit that is quite heavy to Anglo ears, but I honestly think it would be gorgeous on a little girl.

Cerise is hardly used as a child’s name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. It would be a similar concept to a child named [name_f]Apple[/name_f] in the US, everyone has heard of it but most would associate it with the fruit (a cherry). There’s plenty of other [name_u]French[/name_u] names that have been adopted internationally so i don’t think that should stop you.

Hope that helps :relaxed:

[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] - Not to snobby at all! Really pretty, a name you would expect to be common but is not.

[name_f]Swanhild[/name_f] - Not sure, but if @fearlessfirefly and @HonoriaGlossop think it’s okay, I do as well.

[name_f]Cerise[/name_f] - Very pretty, I don’t think you have to be french to use it.

Bianca is lively and bold. I think it’s usable

Swanhild is lovely and strong. It is a brave choice

Cerise feels sleek and pretty!

Bianca - I don’t think of it as snobbish at all! Because there are only a few Biancas I met, and they were all nice. So I don’t associate the name with being snobbish.

Swanhild - I do prefer this for a middle name, but it’s really nice, it’s elegant, feminine and strong without being overly frilly or too out-there.

Cerise - [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] is a pretty name, I don’t think it matters if you are [name_u]French[/name_u] or not to be able to use it. As it isn’t that popular in [name_f]France[/name_f] anyways, and I associate it with the word [name_f]Cherry[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]. I don’t find it snobbish. It’s an elegant and romantic name.

With [name_f]Swanhild[/name_f], I think unfamiliarity is a significant issue, but I do think it’s an enchanting name and the nickname [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is so sweet.

I agree with the other posters that you certainly don’t have to be [name_u]French[/name_u] to use [name_f]Cerise[/name_f]. [name_u]French[/name_u] names are used around the world because of historical colonialism, religious reasons etc anyway.

Bianca doesn’t sound snobbish to me. I find it a lovely name. I don’t think most names are inherently snobbish; it’s all subjective.

Swanhild I find lovely too and [name_f]Cerise[/name_f].

There is NO name on earth one could like that someone else wouldn’t loathe.

I LOVE [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]!

Bianca- it’s a bit posh, but whatever its the name of the mouse from the Rescuers and she was awesome.
[name_f]Swanhilde[/name_f]- I’m more in the HIldegarde camp if we’re going hard core Germanic not enough people can make the cool shwa sound the name deserves
[name_f]Cerise[/name_f]- It’s not [name_u]French[/name_u]…but then again neither am I. And it is cute non-frenchness aside.

Bianca is definitely not snobbish, I really like it as a name.

Swanhild isn’t really my cup of tea but it’s not unusable - and no name is ‘too much’ for a child if you really like it, just be prepared with a nickname you prefer in case others try to impose one

Cerise is also usable, again unusual but feels familiar enough with other similar names out there that it will fit in nicely

I think all of them are usable. I never thought of [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] as snobbish at all, and others seem usable.

I don’t think [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] is snobbish. It does make me think of [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] from Taming of the Shrew, which isn’t a terrible association. Not an association everyone would make, though, I don’t think.

[name_f]Swanhild[/name_f] is a name that is both strong and very heavy to me. I don’t think you have to be Germanic to use it, but as others have said, it is a very bold choice. Not the most feminine sounding of names here in the US, but I don’t know where you’re from, so that may not be the case where you are.

I think [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] is lovely and I don’t think you need to be [name_u]French[/name_u] to use it. There are plenty of names that get used everyday by people who aren’t of the name’s culture or nationality and it’s fine. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think it has any cultural reason you shouldn’t use it, so why not if you like it?

Bianca — Doesn’t sound too snobby to me in any way! I think it’s an elegant and gorgeous name.

Swanhild— Sorry, I do think this is a bit much for a first name, but it could work as a middle name. There are also some lovely names meaning “swan” if that’s what you’re after and are looking for suggestions!

Cerise— Although the name is definitely obviously [name_u]French[/name_u], I think this one could work if you’re not [name_u]French[/name_u] as it’s similar to a lot of non-[name_u]French[/name_u] names. It’s not my style personally (I prefer [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Cherie[/name_f]) but it’s totally usable.

[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] is lovely. Doesn’t sound snobbish to me at all.

[name_f]Swanhild[/name_f] is one of my favorite names.

For [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] I would actually assume the parents weren’t [name_u]French[/name_u]:

I think it’s definitely usable for anyone regardless of background.

I love [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] and I wouldn’t worry about if it sounds “snobby”. Although, I will point out that there are two different characters named [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] in two different Shakespearean plays and both of those characters were “promiscuous” people. So I don’t know if those associations will bother you. But I think all of those names are useable.
