[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
I’m new here and expecting a baby girl in [name_u]November[/name_u].
My partner is [name_m]French[/name_m] and we will be spending a lot of time over there, so [name_m]French[/name_m] names are key.
For middle names, we have gathered some family names and ones that we like:
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Nelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Cate[/name_f].
We have a list for first names, but I’m unsure whether any of them are the one.
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Surname is mercier. Any combinations from the lists above or [name_m]New[/name_m] ideas are needed please!!!
thank you!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there, I am a [name_m]French[/name_m] speaker and will likely raise my kids bi-culturally (Francophone [name_f]Africa[/name_f] and US) so this is a subject near and dear to my heart! My absolute [name_m]FAVORITE[/name_m] [name_m]French[/name_m] names are:
I think all three of the above would work great in English, and are even more beautiful in [name_m]French[/name_m], so if you are not a Francophone, ask your partner to say these names to you out loud, and I predict you will melt, especially [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]!
Then there are some names that have one foot solidly in both languages (i.e. people in both countries are totally familiar with them), it’s just that the pronunciation changes somewhat:
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
From your list, I like [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], as they work great in both languages. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is also one that translates well.
I love [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] they are just ridiculously cute in both french and english. I would probably not use the middle name [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as it rhymes with your last name. [name_f]Oceane[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], to my knowledge, are pronounced quite differently in both languages. Idk if that would be a problem.
I think you can’t go wrong with your list
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
I think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] would be problematic in [name_f]France[/name_f], but all the other names are lovely. I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and Amélie.
Hmm…
My thoughts on the names:
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - I love [name_m]French[/name_m] names the femininity, the elegance, the class their generally gorgeous. I love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] but I dislike [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] it’s just too frilly, too fussy. Middle name [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Nelle[/name_f]? Not a huge fan of [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] but family names should always be important.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] it’s elegant, wholesome, sweet, and incredibly stunning! I love the whole spunk of the name [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] as well as the [name_u]Penny[/name_u] nickname. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is gorgeous. I would love the combination [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
[name_f]Ines[/name_f] - A short, intriguing name with a lot of style. [name_f]Ines[/name_f] has this great stance. I would love [name_f]Ines[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f] it’s so spunky.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - A lovely name she has this intriguing elegance, has a lovely femininity, and looks so lovely. I also love the [name_f]Ami[/name_f] nickname. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a great name. I would love the combination [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] but still [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] is sweet. [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] has a lovely flow and packs a punch. The name is just intriguing. [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be lovely.
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] - Ugh really not a fan of [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]. [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Nelle[/name_f]?
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] - This name is lovely she has a wholesome vibe and looks very fresh. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] is just sweet. I love the [name_f]Elle[/name_f] nickname as well but I dislike [name_u]Gaby[/name_u]. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]?
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - I love this name it’s wholesome, has a quirky beat, and it’s just cool. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - A lovely name very feminine and sweet. I would prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] spelling wise. Suggestion [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] - A lovely classic. She has so much strength and beauty. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is just so pretty!! I also love the [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] nickname. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is just a great name. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]…?
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f] - I actually think this name is a really intriguing nature inspired choice. She conjures up beautiful images of the ocean and packs a lot of beauty. I think [name_f]Oceane[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] sounds cool.
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] - A lush sunny name with a beautiful sound. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] just works I love the [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] nicknames as well. She’s just a lovely classic. Suggestion [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]?
[name_f]Odette[/name_f] - A rather jazzy powerful name that packs a punch!! Suggestion [name_f]Odette[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]?
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f] - Prefer [name_f]Emily[/name_f] spelling wise. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though she’s pretty the name is slightly beige. Suggestion [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - Never ever liked [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] it’s just harsh and unappealing too me. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]?
I happen to be fluent in [name_m]French[/name_m], so this will be fun
My favourites off your list:
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f]
I’m extremely biased, as [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is my top choice for a girl, but I think [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] Mercier is beautiful! I’m in the middle of learning [name_m]French[/name_m]/teaching myself [name_m]French[/name_m], and the only one I’d avoid is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. It just does not sound appealing when I try to say it like a [name_m]French[/name_m] person would! It’s quite hard to say the “oo” sound after the [name_m]French[/name_m] “R”, and it comes out sounding like a guttural WHOOO-beeyh. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is really sweet, though!
I also like [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] from your list, but if I’m not mistaken, in [name_f]France[/name_f] both are pretty dated. I’m not sure if you want to stray from dated names there? [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is very in-style–it’s considered an old-fashioned name that’s coming back into style, so it’s about as chic here as it is there. My best friend and her little sister are [name_m]French[/name_m], so they have given me the inside knowledge on [name_m]French[/name_m] names over the years. I really like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and [name_f]Odette[/name_f], though–I couldn’t tell you whether or not they’re dated there? I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] might, but I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Odette[/name_f] are fine. I haven’t really heard of [name_f]Olive[/name_f]'s usage over there, but I do think it’s fab.
[name_f]Maud[/name_f] might be a bit dated, but I’ll suggest it anyway.
