A friend needs naming help

A collegue of my mum’s is having a baby and she is thinking of names. She has expressed her like for [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] but is worried that people call their dogs those names. Have you got any suggestions I can give her??? Not too unusual please.

Thank You

I think the easiest solution is just to pick a name with these names as easy nicknames. I really don’t know any dogs by those names (but I know dogs by lots of people names, it’s just something people do nowadays), so she shouldn’t worry so much probably, but at the same time, I’m a fan of not using nicknames as full names.

[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Rosemarie[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Rosamond[/name]
[name]Rosalba[/name]

Are all nice names that are varying degrees of mainstream and out there but nothing too out there.

[name]Poppy[/name] could be [name]Penelope[/name] or maybe [name]Philippa[/name] or even just a nickname for an unrelated name.

[name]Posey[/name] is used as a nickname for [name]Josephine[/name].

Hopefully that gets her started.

She could also do a [name]Rose[/name] middle name or [name]Poppy[/name] as a middle name and call the girl that.

Good luck to her!

I like Jesba’s suggestions-- especially [name]Rosalie[/name] with nn [name]Rosie[/name] and using [name]Rosie[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name] as a mn instead of a fn.

I wouldn’t worry about the dog name issue-- my nn, [name]Lucy[/name], and my brother’s nn, [name]Sam[/name], seem to be some of the most popular dog names ever, but I love them on people! My parents had a dog named [name]Rosy[/name], but that was because my mother always wanted a girl named [name]Rose[/name] but didn’t think it went well with our surname and so couldn’t use it on a person.
