I looked over the names we considered for [name]Rosalind[/name] a few days ago, and while I still love some of them, a lot of them have lost their luster. Which makes me a little sad… Now, I’m not going to have baby 2 in a while (we’re planning on waiting till Roo is nine months to start that process), but I thought I’d pick your brains before mine gets too full of christening gowns, wedding gowns and then those pregnancy hormones again… And I like to have a sweet little list to look at (don’t we all?). The names on my list are:
[name]Atalanta[/name]
[name]Ceridwen[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name]
[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Natasha[/name]
[name]Rosalba[/name] (I know this is too close to [name]Rosalind[/name])
[name]Roxana[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]
I have started liking a few names I used to dislike, such as [name]Serafina[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] (but as much as I like this I can’t use it because of that darn [name]Shakespeare[/name] woman).
[name]Do[/name] anyone have any smashing suggestions? What would you name [name]Rosalind[/name] Illyria [name]Beatrice[/name]'s little sister? As usual I like names with historical, literary, mythological references… or some beautiful artwork to it’s name.
I will think about this for a bit. On a different note, I can still remember reading about your daughters birth and randomly thinking that it would be a good name for a sister [name]Astrid[/name]. I know, I know I kinda jumped away from what you just said, but thats what I thought would be cute at that moment:)
My overall favorite from your list is [name]Ceridwen[/name], and my favorite with [name]Rosalind[/name] is [name]Zenobia[/name]. If I could pick anything at all, though, I’d definitely choose [name]Hypatia[/name]. Zosime/Zosima, [name]Iphigenia[/name], [name]Ignatia[/name], [name]Sibyl[/name]/[name]Sybil[/name]/[name]Sibylla[/name]/[name]Sybilla[/name], [name]Isaure[/name]/[name]Isaura[/name], [name]Valencia[/name], [name]Tullia[/name], [name]Hero[/name], [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Cosima[/name]/Cosmina, [name]Cyra[/name], [name]Dorothea[/name] (or [name]Theodora[/name]/any [name]Theo[/name]-beginning name), [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Melusine[/name], [name]Eulalie[/name]/[name]Eulalia[/name], [name]Aurelia[/name], [name]Perpetua[/name], [name]Fortunata[/name], [name]Illuminata[/name], and [name]Claudia[/name] would also be cool to see used as a first or middle name.
Eh, I’ll try some combos, because why not:
Hypatia Sibyl Eulalie.
Cyra Zosime Illuminata
Dorothea Elspeth Zenobia
Melusine Valencia Hero
You know how I feel about [name]Fiammetta[/name]! And I’ve completely changed my original position on [name]Zenobia[/name] after meeting one (she’s the sweetest teenager you’ll ever meet)
My top three from your choices:
[name]Fiammetta[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]
[name]Natasha[/name]/ [name]Melisande[/name]
Working on middle name combos
I ADORE your names! Wish I could use some of them.
My favorite on your list is [name]Roxana[/name]–so sweet with [name]Rosalind[/name], but I’m a sucker for alliteration. [name]Fiammetta[/name] is also gorgeous. Our name tastes are vastly different for the most part, but some ideas you might like:
[name]Allegra[/name] ([name]Henry[/name] Wadsworth, “The Children’s Hour” poem)
[name]Amabelle[/name] (The Farming of Bones)
[name]Aravis[/name] (The Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name])
[name]Blanca[/name] (House of the Spirits)
[name]Callista[/name]
[name]Melora[/name] (Greek, “golden apple”)
Megara (Greek mythology)
[name]Mira[/name]-[name]Louise[/name] (heard it on [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name], love it with [name]Rosalind[/name])
[name]Nella[/name] ([name]Nella[/name] [name]Larsen[/name], African-American novelist of the [name]Harlem[/name] Renaissance)
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Johanna[/name] (Biblical)
[name]Lotus[/name]
[name]Shiloh[/name] (children’s novel of the same name; ancient city)
[name]Pollyanna[/name] (children’s novel of the same name)
[name]Thomasina[/name] (The Three Lives of [name]Thomasina[/name])
Found these on a website full of Renaissance names that you might like:
I think [name]Serafina[/name] would be fabulous with [name]Rosalind[/name]! [name]Both[/name] romantic, whimsical, pretty, lots of pretty nicknames, and sturdy.
I actually like all the names on your list apart from [name]Fiammetta[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name]. I find [name]Fiammetta[/name] to be quite a lot clunkier than the beautiful [name]Rosalind[/name], though the nn [name]Fia[/name] is adorable (if you were to use it - Roo and [name]Fia[/name] would be fabulous!). As for [name]Natasha[/name], I’m sorry but it just screams chav to me! Most of the [name]Natasha[/name]/[name]Tasha[/name]'s I know are in their 20’s-30’s so it feels quite dated to me. Not a fan.
[name]Melisande[/name] is probably my favourite from the list
A couple of suggestions - These are probably way off the mark, so apologies!
[name]Calista[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Avril[/name]
[name]Celestina[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Calliope[/name]
[name]Adella[/name]
[name]Lucretia[/name]
[name]Xanthia[/name]
[name]Odette[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]! That one is such a gorgeous name. It’s beautiful and underused, and it would go wonderfully with [name]Rosalind[/name].
Now, I am somewhat hesitant about coming with suggestions because you have such a wonderful taste in names, and I could be waaaaay off in my suggestions (because I usually are). However, I am gonna take the chance and mention a few beautiful names:
[name]Aemilia[/name] (from [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s Comedy of Errors)
[name]Gaia[/name] (Greek; earth and fertility goddess)
Hespera ([name]Roman[/name]; goddess of dusk)
[name]Juno[/name] ([name]Roman[/name]; [name]Queen[/name] of the gods, goddess of matrimony)
[name]Marina[/name] (from [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s [name]Pericles[/name])
[name]Saga[/name] (Norse; goddess of runes)
Thaisa (from [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s [name]Pericles[/name])
[name]Vesta[/name] ([name]Roman[/name]; goddess of the hearth)
Violenta (from [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s All’s Well that Ends Well)
My favorites from you list are [name]Fiammetta[/name] and [name]Melisande[/name] but I don’t think I like them paired with [name]Rosalind[/name].
I do love [name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]. They are perfect together.
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Darcy[/name]'s young sis! So cute)
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Cicely[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Clio[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Charis[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Corinna[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Ondine[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Livia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Apollonia[/name]/[name]Apolline[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Viola[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Demetria[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Eudora[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Phaedra[/name]
I love [name]Serafina[/name], and a previous poster’s suggestion of [name]Livia[/name].
(Liviana is pretty too).
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Marianne[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Artemesia[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Larissa[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Antoinette[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] and [name]Clothilde[/name] (nn [name]Tillie[/name] or [name]Tildy[/name])
Rosalind is beautiful and relatively unique without being too weird/bizarre. I suggest going for another name with the same qualities.
Atalanta- a little weird
Ceridwen- a bit harsh and not as beautiful as rosalind
Fiammetta- a bit too foreign but Etta would be nice
Melisande- a little weird
Natasha- really quite nice
Roxana- ok but not great
Zenobia- sounds like a country in africa
I suggest:
Daphne
Leona (not my real name)
Cosima
Isadora
Phina (josephina etc)
Danae
Petra
Helena
Flora
Celia
Thea (Theodora/Dorothea)
Rowena
Claudia
Lucia (loo-see-a because it’s ‘smoother and softer’ sounding)
Eliseor maybe one of the names in my signature?
EDIT: (just thought i’d add these)
Corinna or Serena
Noella or Luella maybe
Cecile (i used to love this!)
& i kind of like Odelia! it’s not as frilly as Ophelia which i like and i don’t think it’s too odd or pretencious. actually i think it has the same roots as your name!
Ernessa? some people might discount it just because they have never heard of it! but i think it’s better then Odessa which is a place.
Alina (a-leena)
Laetitia(la-tish-a)
Felicia
Dana
Angelica, Amalia, Alicia(uh-liss-ee-a)/Alessia.
Cléa?
PS. i am ‘leona’ who used to post on here but i think i forgot my password or something and i couldn’t access my account! so here i am.
I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Rosalba[/name], but you’re right - it doesn’t go with [name]Rosalind[/name] at all. Still - absolutely stunning name that no one else seems to love.
Fiametta seems to be a constant on your list - maybe that should tell you something? It’s one of the few names that seems to always creep back in and I have to say that [name]Rosalind[/name] and Fiametta would be perfect for sisters.
from the names you mentioned, [name]Serafina[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] are my favorites! I really like [name]Cordelia[/name]! I don’t understand why you are opposed to using it, though, because right below that you said you like literary references! [name]Cordelia[/name] is the good sister/character in [name]King[/name] Lear, so it’s not a negative reference. [name]Natasha[/name] and [name]Melisande[/name] are also okay from your list, but I don’t think any of them (except [name]Serafina[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]) are adorably old fashioned and unique enough to go with [name]Rosalind[/name].
Suggestions:
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Lorraine[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] (I think this is adorable with [name]Rosalind[/name]!)
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Catalina[/name]
