Thoughts on the name [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] for a girl?
In short. No.
I agree with the poster above. Please no. It’s just not feminine in the slightest. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Etta[/name_f]?
NO, please, no.
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is one of the most macho-sounding MALE names around. I would ask you why you would want it for a girl and what you would plan on calling a boy? What’s wrong with the feminine version of Attica?
I have to agree with all the former posters. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is a handsome and wonderful name for a boy, but it is definitely not a girl’s name. Does this name have particular significance for you? If you’re trying to honor someone, I’m sure we could help find a better way.
Try Ataria, or Attia, or ANY legitimate girls’ name beginning with AT, but not this.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about no?
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f]! [name_m]Just[/name_m] like a boy named [name_f]Martha[/name_f].
PS I actually do not believe in these posts anymore. What about a girl named… ([name_m]Chuck[/name_m], [name_m]Donald[/name_m], [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]), etc.
Since they are bad for my blood pressure, I will just stop responding.
I’d love to see more gender fluidity in names and more unisex names, but the association with the male character [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is too strong for me in this case. I actually can see why you would think it works for a girl though, it’s not all that “macho” to me. If it’s the sound you like, [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]'s suggestion of Attica is nice. If it’s the To Kill a Mockingbird association, what about [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u]? I actually think [name_u]Finch[/name_u] works for either gender too, though I can see this being an unpopular opinion.
I kind of like it actually. For me, the sounds work for a boy as well as a girl and it doesn’t feel macho at all. If you wanted a more traditonal girls name and wanted to honor To Kill A Mockingbird (if that’s what you want to do) then [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u] would work (aren’t both of those considered unisex names). Or like the earlier posters said, you could use feminized versions of it.
But I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] would be fine on a girl.
Horrible, really.
…That is wrong on so many levels.
