A girl named Atticus?

This came to me in a dream and I was just curious as to what the opinions were on this one. At least I think it was a dream  I can’t really recall, but I was talking to one of my co-workers and she mentioned her granddaughter [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and I remember sitting there thinking to myself that it was odd, but I kind of liked it. I have a name that isn’t very common and I do find I am attracted to gender-benders a lot of the time. I think it’s adorable, but I’m sure as she grows up it may just turn into being a bit odd.

I like it

I don’t think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] works for a girl, sorry. It’s solidly masculine in terms of sounds and usage (strong consonant sounds, the -us ending) and the only common association is [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] who is male. I don’t mind gender-benders/unisex names but for me there has to be some explanation behind it- some current or historical usage on girls despite being more popular for boys (or vice versa), sounds common in girls’ names, historical or pop culture associations of usage on girls, etc. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] on a girl doesn’t really fulfill any of these criteria. I love it for a boy though

I don’t think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] works for a girl, sorry. It’s very firmly masculine in my opinion. Attica could work for a girl, if you like that!

I don’t think it’s a good idea

I’m not a big fan of it either.

If it’s the sound you like, maybe think about [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] instead? I think it’s quite similar, but has a more femine connotation without being too frilly.

It’s a no from me.

Another thumbs-down from me.

It could work, but maybe [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] instead?

I love it!

I’d personally like to think that names don’t have genders. In this day and age, really anything goes. I’ve seen little girl’s named [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Jonnie[/name_u], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Honestly as time goes by, more diverse names will seem fitting. So I do believe [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] works for boy or girl.

I’m starting to think it was a dream and not a conversation I had in real life lol I think it’s cute, but as I said I feel the older she would get the more people would find it really odd. It’s one of those names I find is cute when they’re little, but once they grow up it’s just confusing.
