A list of Three Little Men

So we should be finding out the sex of the baby next week on Friday the 1st if he/she decides to reveal themself!

We’ve got our shortlist of boys names mostly figured and agree that any of these could be our future son, if it’s a son! I’d love to hear opinions and what you picture with these names in terms of a child and who they might be!

Evander Philip Z “Anders”
Oberon Philip Z “Obi”
Ramsay Philip Z (NN suggestions welcome!)

There’s also a small consideration of a second middle name FN “Philip Walter” Z but that is a lot of name. Thoughts?

Now, I really feel this baby is a boy, and I’ll be shocked if they say Girl! But, if you could also suggest 3 girls names, incorporating one family name out of Philippa, Margaret, Ellen or Irene potentially that would be great! Also a consideration of using Joy in the middle instead of one of the family names.

We are hoping to have a list of 3 for baby to decide at birth :two_hearts: Thanks everyone for your help!

Congratulations!! :partying_face::tada:

My personal favourite of your list is Oberon Philip. Oberon is so underrated, cool and the nickname Obi is just adorable!

Don’t worry about it being ‘too much name’!! I have two lengthy middle names (to honour family) and it’s never been a problem - a fun fact if anything! Personally I would avoid two middles if at least one of them isn’t an honour name or used for a specific reason (like, you love the name but it’s too guilty-pleasure to use as a first), it feels a bit unnecessary otherwise.

For the girls names…
Honour names are lovely, and the names you want to honour are lovely!

Margaret (I love this one as a full name!)

Philippa

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] is lovely and I really like [name_m]Anders[/name_m]! The other two are decent choices as well, though they don’t have the level of “shine” [name_m]Evander[/name_m] does to me. I prefer just [name_m]Philip[/name_m] with the first names rather than adding a second middle, but I generally don’t care for multiple middles.

girl suggestions, just spitballing at what your girls’ style might be based on the boys and on what goes well with the middles:

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is a delight - rugged but gentle, distinctive but familiar!

[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is distinctive and bold and nn [name_m]Obi[/name_m] is cool!

[name_m]Ramsay[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is rugged, rocky and cool - I like [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m] for you  As nicknames: [name_u]Raz[/name_u], Raph (using middle), Ray?, Ry?, [name_f]Ree[/name_f]?

I think [name_u]Walter[/name_u] could work, if you want it there!

For three girls:

[name_f]Fenella[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ‘Nell’ ‘Effie’

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] (or [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] Margaret) ‘Rosie’ ‘Indie’

[name_f]Morven[/name_f] [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] ‘Mori’ ‘Enna’ ‘Molly/Milli’ (for middle, [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]

Thrilled to see yet another baby Kibby post!

I love these 3 but I think [name_m]Evander[/name_m] is the best fit overall with the current culture as with [name_m]Philip[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_u]Walter[/name_u] is a bit much but not too much if it’s what you really want!

Nn for [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m]: I would go with [name_m]Ram[/name_m]!

[name_f]Girl[/name_f] names that I think might strike the same vibe as your boy names ( presuming you don’t want anything super common):

[name_f]Odette[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] / [name_f]Odette[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is beautiful! nn “Odie, Detta, Etta”
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] nn [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Liesl[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_u]Haven[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

I know this has been so long awaited for you, @Kibby! Excited for you to find out! :rainbow:

I am so excited for you!

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] are my favourites on your list especially with your chosen nicknames. They are both very cool and are familiar but stand out in a good way. [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m] is nice as well but I can’t think of a nickname that excites me as much as the other two. If I had to choose I think Oberon/Obi is the standout.

[name_f]Girl[/name_f] name suggestions…

[name_f]Audra[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] Margo/Esther [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your boys’ list is [name_m]Evander[/name_m]. Normally I’m in favour of 2 middle names, but [name_u]Walter[/name_u] repeats the -er ending of [name_m]Evander[/name_m] (and [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] sounds great already).

3 girls’ name suggestions:

[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_u]Cass[/name_u], [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] or [name_f]Andie[/name_f]

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] nn [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Junie[/name_f], [name_u]Juno[/name_u] or Pipi

[name_f]Davina[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Didi[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Vina[/name_f], or [name_f]Dina[/name_f]

Wildcard:

[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], or [name_f]Didi[/name_f]

It’s lovely to hear about your progress with names. I’d enjoy seeing any of your names on a child. They’re all handsome.

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] feels the most current in terms of sounds and style. [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] feels the boldest of your options. I love it but I do struggle to picture the name on a person. [name_u]Ramsey[/name_u] feels the most easy-going of all your names. I would say [name_u]Ramsey[/name_u] is my favourite for you. For what it’s worth, I think it’s cool and effortless without a nickname.

For your girl list I’d like to suggest:

[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

Once again Huge congratulations :tada:

I remember the exciting the gender scan was I was certain that I would be having a girl and was right so your gut telling you you’re having a boy is super exciting!!

From your list I love the ever so romantic [name_m]Evander[/name_m] such a fabulous name! I love [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] makes a distinguished middle name for [name_m]Evander[/name_m]. I also think [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_u]Walter[/name_u] works well my daughter has two middle names and hasn’t encountered any issues.

For girls you’ve got honour names you could play around with

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]

Thank you all for your well wishes and kind words!!
I really appreciate the feedback on the boys names, especially [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] as it is the more, unique… choice on the list. We both really like it but have the reservation that it might be a “bit much”, so to see it get a warm reception does make it feel more attainable as a name. The O sound feels on trend in a world of Oliver’s, Theos and Olivia’s, but it still would be a shock to our families I think! A Midsummer Nights [name_u]Dream[/name_u] is my favourite [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] play and there’s a bit of a GoT nod in there which my partner appreciates.

He was wishy washy on [name_m]Evander[/name_m] as a choice when I first brought it up, but I pointed out it’s merits as being similar to [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] without being hyper popular, and nn [name_m]Anders[/name_m] and the similar meaning to my partners name, is as close as we’ll ever get to naming our kid directly after him. He’s warmed up to it, and I’m fairly sure it’s a contender, it feels like the safe choice of the 3 to me.

We both really like [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m], and it’s got great flow with the last name. I have a minor hesitation as it was my friends last name, and I don’t want anyone to think of them when saying my child’s name. We aren’t overly close now but still have mutual friends, they have also married and changed their name. The lack of nickname does bother me, but nicknames tend to be something that grows so many one would present itself in the future.
As to the middle names, I’m incredibly happy to just use [name_m]Philip[/name_m], as no one in my family has two middle names, but when I mentioned using my Dads name, he said it might cause hurt feelings etc among those that didn’t have their names used. I imagine he mostly meant his father, therefore the consideration of [name_u]Walter[/name_u]. But I agree with those of you that said the flow is kind of off and much better with just [name_m]Philip[/name_m]. All of this being said, my Dad passed on several years ago now, and the other relatives will get to meet and know their grandchild, when he will not. So I feel that’s kind of the trump card in whose name gets precedence here.

As for girls names, there’s been some great suggestions, but nothing is really sticking in my head, maybe that’s just another sign it’s a boy! I’m having the hardest time picturing a girl and maybe that’s why no names feel right! We are in for it if they say girl next week!

I just wanted to say I like all of your boy names, but I know of a little [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] in my neighboring town and I was SO EXCITED when I saw his birth announcement. It’s an amazing name. I don’t know whether he has a nn, but [name_m]Obi[/name_m] is cute and accessible (Star Wars reference too); I know of an [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] “Obi.”

Haven’t you had [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] on your girl list? It wasn’t feeling quite right if our baby had been a girl, but I love it and it was getting a warm reception from anyone with whom we shared our list.

@auroradawn - I love that there’s another [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] out there around you! I scanned the name records for my province for the last 5 years and there’s been absolutely no baby boys named [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]. (Under 30 Evanders, but it’s grown by about 6 each year, and under 10 Ramsays of any spelling variation) We also love the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars nod hahah

[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] is definitely still high on the list, I think somewhere within the top 3 if I could narrow down a top 3, it also has a nerdy reference from Stargate, but not something many would ever pick up on. I think maybe if they do say we are having a girl, it’ll open my mind up to girls names a little more. The biggest problem I keep running into is Association. I draw connections between names and things far too easily and find it hard to break them. If I’ve known someone I can associate with a name, I immediately can’t picture it on my child. Unless the association is 100% positive or connected to something I love. It’s really damaging my options but I can’t get past it. [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] is a good example of thing, it’s such a pretty name, but my partners best friend is [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], and she’s lovely, but the name is hers, and I honestly couldn’t tell you what Cassie’s full name is, might just be [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], but it pulls many options from my list just like that! I wish my brain thought differently.
